"Isn't it strange that to be mysterious, one has to wear black?" Su Jin'er tilted her head and looked at Zhuang Lingtian beside her.
"Cough! That's not it. I'm not trying to be mysterious; I just like black," he said, awkwardly running his fingers through his hair.
"Then tell me, how did you know they would meet here?"
"Because I like you, I've been observing you, which also meant keeping an eye on your friends. I happened to see her meeting this man, so I stayed alert, hoping to help you at a critical moment." He stuck out his tongue playfully after saying this.
"Are you really that kind-hearted?"
Just as Zhuang Lingtian was about to respond, someone knocked on the table beside them. The Instructor's voice rang out, "Students, if you're going to talk about love, please go outside. The classroom is for learning."
Su Jin'er's face turned red instantly as she shyly apologized to the Instructor.
After the Instructor left, when they looked out the window again, the figure in black and Ruan Hongmei had disappeared. She suddenly felt a sharp gaze upon her, and without looking, she knew who the owner of that gaze was.
Nervously, she brushed her hair back and gazed out the window.
Noticing Su Jin'er’s unease, Zhuang Lingtian turned to look at Chu Feifan and then extended his middle finger toward him. Chu Feifan said nothing but shot him a glance before returning to his book. However, Qin Yu, sitting nearby, caught this action and glared at him fiercely, displaying an expression that was anything but feminine.
Su Jin'er glanced at her watch and said, "Class is about to end; I'm going to find Hongmei. Are you coming?"
Zhuang Lingtian's eyes widened as he replied, "Of course! Wherever you go, I go."
He exaggeratedly wrapped his arm around Su Jin'er's and winked at Chu Feifan and Qin Yu.
After class ended, Su Jin'er picked up her textbook and walked outside without waiting for Zhuang Lingtian.
"Wait for me!"
As Zhuang Lingtian was about to chase after her, his arm was suddenly pulled back. He turned around to see Chu Feifan's calm face. He thought Chu Feifan would hit him, but to his surprise, Chu Feifan simply said one sentence calmly.
"Take good care of her."
Then he turned and left.
Zhuang Lingtian stood frozen for a few seconds before quickly chasing after Su Jin'er, who had already walked into the hallway.
"What are you doing? Why are you dawdling?" Su Jin'er asked, somewhat annoyed.
"Uh! Chu Feifan just called for me."
He thought Su Jin'er would ask what Chu Feifan had said, but she didn’t ask anything and continued to walk quietly. In truth, her heart was racing.
After waiting for a long time without her asking, he couldn't hold back and said, "He just told me to take good care of you."
Su Jin'er felt as if her heart had dropped into an ice cellar, but her face remained calm.
"Don't you care?"
"It's not that I don't care, but love that doesn't belong to me is useless no matter how much I care." She tried hard to keep her voice steady, but the slight tremor was still impossible to hide.
A hint of excitement appeared on Zhuang Lingtian's face. The two of them walked downstairs without saying another word.
Su Jin'er first returned to the dormitory. Ruan Hongmei still hadn't come back, and her phone was off. She didn't understand why Ruan Hongmei's reaction was so extreme, but she was sure that Ruan Hongmei was hiding something from her.
But where could she have gone now?
Suddenly, she noticed that Ruan Hongmei's bed was very messy. She remembered that in the morning, Ruan Hongmei had neatly folded her quilt and placed it on the bed, but now it was all crumpled in one corner. Had she come back? But then she thought it didn't make sense; Ruan Hongmei was a very tidy person and wouldn't leave her quilt lying around unless something had happened that made her unable to tidy up. And what could she have been looking for on the bed?
As she pondered these thoughts while looking at other things in the dormitory, everything else seemed untouched except for her bed. Thinking about Zhuang Lingtian still waiting downstairs for her, she hurriedly went down without lingering. Little did she know that after she left, a small black snake slithered out from under Ruan Hongmei's quilt and kept flicking its tongue towards the door.
They searched around the school but couldn't find Ruan Hongmei. By this time, it was already past noon, and they hadn't had lunch yet. The two of them decided to eat first and then continue looking for her. Although they didn't know who the person in black was, they knew that Ruan Hongmei recognized him and that he wouldn't harm her.
The two of them chatted as they walked out of the school. Zhuang Lingtian said he wanted to treat Su Jin'er to a meal, and she did not refuse.
Su Jin'er kept thinking about who the person in black was. His back seemed somewhat familiar, but she couldn't recall who it was at that moment.
Zhuang Lingtian noticed that Su Jin'er had been silent and didn't say anything either. He simply led her toward a restaurant. She didn't pay attention to where he was taking her until the surroundings became quiet. Only then did she realize they had left the main road and entered a somewhat secluded alley. Although this was the outskirts, many people still lived here. The houses in this alley appeared quite old, with moss growing on the walls, puddles on the ground, and garbage piled everywhere, emitting a foul smell.
"Why did you bring me here?" Su Jin'er asked with a frown, clearly displeased.
"There's a restaurant up ahead that has a dish that's really delicious. I thought you might not have tried it before, so I wanted to take you to taste it."
"What dish?"
She was worried because she disliked strange foods.
"You've definitely had this dish before, but what I mean is that the one I'm taking you to eat now will definitely taste different from what you've had before."
"What dish?"
"Tomato and Egg."
Su Jin'er shot him a glare, thinking it was something special! It turned out to be just Tomato and Egg; she pouted.
Zhuang Lingtian remained silent, still looking confident.
Su Jin'er, however, only glanced at the shops on both sides. Although this place wasn't very prominent, there were still some shops open. The most noticeable one was called "Little Ya Accessories." The sign had faded significantly, but it was still clear that the original color was red. A transparent curtain hung at the door, also faded. She looked inside and saw a woman in her thirties sitting there, focused on doing her nails.
"Wait a minute!" Zhuang Lingtian suddenly said and quickly ran into the accessories store. Su Jin'er followed him inside.
The store wasn't very large, about 15 square meters. Inside were several glass tables and a white shelf filled with shiny accessories that girls liked.
"Boss, please take out that bracelet for me," Zhuang Lingtian said.
"Handsome, you finally came to buy it?" The Landlady smiled as she took out a red box, opening it to reveal a bracelet that was entirely emerald green, with a section marbled with red streaks.
It was a beautiful bracelet, and inside, there seemed to be something red, resembling bloodstains, that appeared to be moving within. Su Jin'er thought of something called Blood Jade. Blood Jade refers to a type of red jade produced in Tibet's Snowy Plateau, commonly known as Highland Blood Jade. It is named for its vibrant color and is quite expensive and rare in the market. Another type of Blood Jade is more sinister; it is not just a type of jade but refers to jade that has been permeated with blood, associated with corpses. When a person is buried, jade is forcibly placed in their mouth. If the person has just died and the jade is inserted at the moment of death, it will enter the throat with the last breath. After a thousand years, the blood will seep into the heart of the jade, forming Blood Jade.
The Jade Bracelet before her only had a small portion of bloodstains; it should be fake.
While she was distracted, Zhuang Lingtian had already purchased the bracelet and placed it in front of her.
"It’s yours now."
"You bought it?"
"Yes! What's wrong? Don't you like it?"
"No, it's just that this should be very expensive!"
"As long as you like it." Without waiting for Su Jin'er’s consent, he slipped the bracelet onto her wrist.
The moment her skin touched the bracelet, a chill ran through her, causing her to pause slightly. Is this bracelet real?
She had once heard her mother say that genuine jade is translucent or opaque, with a warm luster and contains small impurities or cotton-like patterns. When struck with a hard object, it produces a crisp and pleasant sound.
"Is this real jade?"
As they exited the shop, Su Jin'er asked.
"Yes, it's real jade, and it's also a rare type of Blood Jade. I discovered it last year but hadn’t bought it because I couldn't find an owner for it until now." Zhuang Lingtian said with a smile.
"You mean this Blood Jade?"
"Yes! I heard this thing is hard to find. When I first came to this shop, they didn’t have this Rain Bracelet. It was only later when I mentioned there wasn’t anything interesting that the Boss took it out for me to see. Although she claimed it was Blood Jade, I don't believe it's real."
"Have you heard of Blood Jade?"
"Yes, I had only heard of it before, but after discovering this bracelet, I went back to look up some information. I found out that real Blood Jade is indeed beneficial for the body, but I'm not very sure if this one is genuine. However, it looks beautiful, and even if it's not real, I can still give it to you as a gift!"
Zhuang Lingtian smiled foolishly like a child.
Su Jin'er looked at the bracelet on her wrist. Although she knew very well that she shouldn't accept it, for some reason, she really liked this bracelet and couldn't bring herself to say no.
"That's the shop up ahead; let's hurry over!" As he spoke, Zhuang Lingtian naturally took her hand. She initially wanted to refuse, but thinking about the bracelet he just gave her, she felt that it was hard to reject him.
She wasn't someone who would casually take things from others, but this bracelet made it impossible for her to say no.
