"Three people?" Su Jin'er asked, somewhat surprised. "Which three?" 0

It seemed like she was talking to herself, yet also questioning Zhang Junsheng. 0

"You really are naive. Do you think I would admit to my crimes in front of a police officer? Even if I confessed now, do you have any evidence?" Zhang Junsheng continued to smile. 0

"It seems you aren't confident about killing us," Su Jin'er said sarcastically. In truth, she had just been talking to herself, but if he admitted it, that would be even better; at least there was a police officer nearby. 0

"Since you're not afraid, why don't you say it? And just as you said, without evidence, we can't convict you." She was provoking him; if he confessed to murder, how could they not convict him? Even without evidence of him committing murder, the assault on an officer and the kidnapping were enough for him to face consequences. 0

"Trying to bait me? Sorry, I'm not that foolish," Zhang Junsheng said smugly. 0

"Actually, I already know without you saying anything, but I won't tell you," Su Jin'er replied as she sat down with a meaningful smile. 0

Linyuan listened in confusion to their strange conversation. Just moments ago, she had been focused on finding Zuo Yi and hadn't considered that Captain Xing would use her to escape. Now they had escaped but left Su Jin'er behind, which made her heart ache even more. She glared at Zhang Junsheng. "Tell me where Zuo Yi is, or I'll kill you." 0

"Oh! Sorry, but I really don't want to tell you." 0

"You bastard!" Linyuan broke free from Captain Xing's grasp and charged at Zhang Junsheng. 0

"Xiaoyuan!" 0

"Linyuan!" 0

Su Jin'er and Captain Xing shouted simultaneously, but Linyuan had already reached Zhang Junsheng. In the blink of an eye, time seemed to stop as Linyuan looked in disbelief at the dagger embedded in her chest. Her body slowly fell to the ground. Captain Xing rushed over in a swift motion, kicking Zhang Junsheng in the stomach and then striking his neck forcefully. Zhang Junsheng also collapsed to the ground. 0

"Xiaoyuan—" Because the light in Zhang Junsheng's hand went out, she couldn't see what had happened; all she heard were a few thuds followed by faint breathing sounds. 0

"Captain Xing, how are you?" 0

After waiting for a long time without receiving a response, a bad feeling surged in her heart, and she could smell the strong scent of blood. 0

"Who is bleeding? Answer me! Xiaoyuan, where are you?" 0

"I'm sorry!" Captain Xing sighed. 0

"Captain Xing, what's wrong? Tell me, is Xiaoyuan okay?" Hearing Captain Xing's voice, she asked anxiously. 0

"Xiaoyuan, she—" 0

Su Jin'er felt her heart tighten painfully as overwhelming sorrow washed over her, tears streaming down her face. She couldn't believe it; just moments ago everything was fine. It couldn't be true, absolutely impossible. She shook her head desperately, but the feeling of pain was undeniable. 0

"It pierced her heart; there's no way she could survive," Captain Xing said slowly, tears streaming down his face for the first time. 0

"Captain Xing, break down the door! Xiaoyuan is just playing tricks on me; she must be! Open the door!" She spoke slowly, suppressing her heartbreak. 0

Captain Xing stood up and fumbled to find the button on the wall. He didn't take a light with him. Although he had seen life and death many times and had long since become numb to it, this time it was his carelessness that led to Linyuan's death. 0

As soon as the door opened, Su Jin'er rushed out. She picked up the flashlight that had rolled into the corner. The moment the light shone on Linyuan's body, she was so frightened that she dropped the flashlight. 0

"Xiaoyuan, don't scare me! Please get up! I know you love to tease me, but this isn't funny; it's really not funny." Her voice trembled. Just a few minutes ago, everything was fine; how could she be lying on the ground now? She slowly walked over and knelt beside Linyuan. The ground was soaked with blood, and the knife was stuck in Linyuan's chest, mocking Su Jin'er. 0

Su Jin'er placed her hand on Linyuan's body; her fingers touched the sticky blood, causing her hand to tremble uncontrollably. 0

“Captain Xing, is Xiaoyuan joking? She won't die, she definitely won't die, right?” 0

Captain Xing sighed and did not respond. 0

Sadness is always so easily contagious. Although Su Jin'er did not cry, he could still clearly feel her sorrow, tightening his heart. After so many years as a police officer, he had seen all kinds of life and death, with many crying their hearts out. Only Su Jin'er was quiet—terrifyingly quiet. Even her speech was calm, as if it were just air. Yet it was this very emotion of hers that magnified his own sadness countless times. 0

“Jin'er, she is already dead. We must find Zuo Yi quickly and leave here.” 0

“Can we take Xiaoyuan with us?” 0

Captain Xing did not answer, but she already knew the response. 0

She slowly stood up and positioned herself at the edge of the stairs. 0

“I promise you, once we get up there, I will come back to take her away.” 0

Su Jin'er remained silent, simply standing obediently. 0

Captain Xing had been paying attention to Zhang Junsheng's movements. He stood against the wall at the side of the stairs, one hand behind him. Captain Xing walked over and felt around in that position until he found a small button. He pressed it firmly, and the stairs made a clattering sound before the door opened. 0

As Su Jin'er prepared to ascend the stairs, she suddenly turned back. She lifted Linyuan onto her back and slowly climbed the stairs. Captain Xing watched her without speaking; although they had not known each other for long, he could see her stubbornness. He also carried the unconscious Zhang Junsheng on his back and tied his hands behind him with a belt to prevent any sudden attacks if he woke up. 0

Once they exited the secret room, Su Jin'er set Linyuan down. Blood continued to flow from her chest; her face had lost its color, and her body temperature was gradually dropping. Su Jin'er rubbed her hands vigorously in an attempt to retain Linyuan's warmth. 0

Captain Xing threw Zhang Junsheng onto the ground and grabbed Su Jin'er's arm, saying, “Jin'er, don't do this. Linyuan is already dead.” 0

Su Jin'er stared blankly at Linyuan, covered in blood, and at the blood on her own hands. Her gaze was vacant and terrifying as she looked at Captain Xing, who was startled by her expression. 0

"Are you okay?" Captain Xing felt fear for the first time. 0

She shook her head. "Xiaoyuan's hands are so cold. I want to warm them up." 0

Captain Xing frowned. "Linyuan is already dead. Can you wake up? If you want to cry, just cry out loud." 0

He would much rather see her scream and cry than witness her current state. 0

Su Jin'er furrowed her brow but did not cry; her eyes were dry and unable to shed a single tear. 0

"I'll place Xiaoyuan here. Let's go find Zuo Yi. Also, there should be rope in that house; we need to find it and tie up Zhang Junsheng." 0

Su Jin'er said calmly. 0

Her words shocked Captain Xing even more. What was she doing? 0

As he walked toward the house Su Jin'er mentioned, he pondered her reaction. Wasn't she supposed to be immersed in the pain of losing Linyuan? How could she think so clearly? Was she pretending to be sad or pretending to be calm? 0

Su Jin'er found a relatively clean spot and laid Xiaoyuan down there. The blood had already congealed, and she took off her jacket to cover Linyuan before standing up and leaving. 0

When Captain Xing returned, he did not see Su Jin'er. He called out a few times nervously, but there was no response. He glanced at the clothes covering Linyuan and shook his head helplessly before tying up Zhang Junsheng with the rope. 0

He wanted to go find Su Jin'er but feared that she might not find him when she returned. Just as he was caught in this dilemma, Su Jin'er unexpectedly came back. 0

"Where have you been?" 0

"Looking for Zuo Yi!" 0

"Do you know where he is?" 0

"I don't know! But I think he should be in that place. I came back to take you there." 0

Her voice was calm, and her expression was also calm. 0

Captain Xing did not speak and followed her out of the house. 0

When she discovered the secret room beneath the house, she suddenly thought of something. Since it was just a guess, she had gone to verify whether her idea was correct. 0

"When we found the secret room beneath the house, I had a bold thought. Since I wasn't sure if it was right, I didn't say anything. I remember you mentioned that the people of this village still live here, and in just a few days, they couldn't have all moved away. So each household should have a secret room, and the reason there is no electricity in the house above is that all the electricity is used in the secret rooms," Su Jin'er said slowly, completely unaware of Captain Xing's incredulous expression behind her. 0
