"What's wrong? Do you think I've taken a fake death potion too?" Zhang Junsheng said with an evil smile.
"Isn't that the case?" Linyuan glared at him.
"No!" Su Jin'er said, a hint of sadness appearing on her previously calm face. "At first, I thought Zhang Junsheng was kind, so I was very sad about his death. But now I can only say that my sadness is not for Zhang Junsheng, but for Zhang Jun."
Zhang Junsheng looked at Su Jin'er with anger, his face twisted in rage, transforming his once handsome features into something terrifying.
"You don't need to be angry. I'm just stating the facts. I can guess the reason you killed your brother—was it worth it for a woman who doesn't love you?"
Su Jin'er's voice was filled with sorrow. After learning about Dreamer's story, she had roughly pieced everything together. Although she wasn't sure if she was right, she hoped to force him to reveal the truth.
However, Zhang Junsheng seemed smarter than she had imagined. After laughing a few times, he said, "Do you want me to tell you everything? You're thinking too simply. I can still distinguish what can and cannot be said. Well, I'm done wasting words with you soon-to-be-dead people. I need to go check on how that kid Zuo Yi is doing!"
Linyuan shouted at him, "What have you done to Zuo Yi?"
Zhang Junsheng frowned and thought for a moment before replying, "Not much really. Just made a few cuts on him. His skin is quite good; women would be jealous seeing it!"
"You bastard! Let him go!" Linyuan cried out.
"Oh! What's this? Do you love him? If you really love him, come with me," Zhang Junsheng said in a mocking tone.
"Xiaoyuan, you can't go!" Su Jin'er grabbed Linyuan's arm and said.
"Jin'er, he will kill Zuo Yi. I can't live without him. Even if I die, I want to die with him," Linyuan's tears fell one by one as her body trembled uncontrollably.
"But Xiaoyuan, what will I do without you? He's a complete psychopath; you can't go," Su Jin'er's tears dripped onto Linyuan's hand, burning with pain.
"Linyuan, I don't think Zuo Yi would agree to you going either. He loves you; how could he let you fall into danger? He would hate himself," Captain Xing also advised.
Linyuan shook her head firmly. "Jin'er, you know my personality; I never take the initiative. But I've met a boy who is even more passive than I am. If I don't take action now, we will really miss our chance, and I don't want to regret it!"
Su Jin'er shook her head in tears. "You can't go! I'm begging you, don't go."
"I'll go with you, but you have to promise that I must see Zuo Yi." Linyuan turned her head to look at Zhang Junsheng, who was grinning mischievously. She didn't want to see Su Jin'er's tearful eyes any longer. Since childhood, Su Jin'er's tears had always been Linyuan's weakness. Now, facing Su Jin'er's desperate pleas and tears, she felt even more pain. They had grown up together; Su Jin'er had often helped Linyuan apologize for her mistakes. Her carefree personality often led her to offend others without thinking, and without Su Jin'er, Linyuan would be nothing.
She turned her back to Jin'er. "Jin'er, I've never cared about anything in my life, but you are my best friend forever. So whether I live or die, you must keep living. If I die, carry on my part of life."
"Alright, don't worry. You will meet soon enough. Rest assured, on the road to the underworld, you won't be alone," Zhang Junsheng laughed heartily with his arms crossed.
Su Jin'er glared at him in disgust. "Zhang Junsheng, I warn you, if you dare to touch a hair on Linyuan, I will make sure you suffer."
She had never been this angry before; it felt like a fire was burning in her chest, and there was a fishbone stuck in her throat, making it hard to breathe.
Zhang Junsheng chuckled ominously, his laughter arrogant and self-satisfied.
"Open the door and let me out," Linyuan said calmly, her voice no longer trembling.
Captain Xing stepped behind Linyuan. "Linyuan, Jin'er is right; you can't go. Do you want her to be heartbroken?"
Su Jin'er frowned slightly but said nothing.
"Captain Xing, stop talking. Even if I die, I want to die with him."
Zhang Junsheng looked at Captain Xing. "Step back; otherwise, I won't open the door."
Captain Xing moved beside Su Jin'er, touched her hand gently, and quietly slipped something into her palm. She was taken aback for a moment but then understood his intention and nodded at him.
Seeing Captain Xing and Su Jin'er standing far away against the wall, he grinned and pressed the button to open the door. As soon as the door opened wide enough for one person to crawl through, Zhang Junsheng smiled and said, "Crawl over!"
Linyuan's mouth twitched involuntarily, the naked insult making her body tremble as she clenched her fists tightly, her nails digging into her palms.
"Zhang Junsheng, you are truly despicable!" Su Jin'er shouted. She never cursed at anyone, but today she was genuinely angry.
"Jin'er, it's okay!" Linyuan bent down slowly and lay on the ground. Zhang Junsheng watched with amusement as Linyuan's face twisted in anger, tears dripping onto the ground and mixing with the dirt.
Captain Xing clenched his fists tightly, watching every move Linyuan made. As soon as Linyuan's body crossed the iron railing, Captain Xing quickly ran towards the door. At the same time, Su Jin'er stepped forward and threw the item Captain Xing had just given her forcefully at Zhang Junsheng. It was the belt buckle from Captain Xing's belt, which he had quietly removed for this moment.
Although she threw it in haste, the buckle still struck Zhang Junsheng's face. Just as he covered his face and cried out in pain, Captain Xing had already pushed Linyuan outside.
However, Su Jin'er was left locked inside. Linyuan anxiously called out "Jin'er," but Jin'er shook her head reassuringly.
"Damn it!" Zhang Junsheng covered one eye; Su Jin'er had hit him right in the eye, allowing Captain Xing and Linyuan to escape.
"Are you trying to run away?" Captain Xing asked.
"Damn it, I tell you, I will take revenge for this. For every one of you, I will return tenfold, and the best target for my wrath will be Zuo Yi."
"You bastard!" Linyuan cursed as she lunged at Zhang Junsheng but was stopped by Captain Xing.
"Let me go! I want to kill this pervert."
"Calm down. We will rescue Zuo Yi. Right now, the most important thing is to save Jin'er."
Su Jin'er glared coldly at Zhang Junsheng; she truly wished she could kill him with a single blow, but she couldn't—only he knew where Zuo Yi was.
"Zhang Junsheng, I know you harbor hatred inside you. But you've already killed Dreamer and your brother; hasn't your hatred subsided yet?"
Zhang Junsheng looked at Su Jin'er incredulously and then burst into laughter. "It seems I've really underestimated you; you even know about this. What else do you know?"
"Is it important? Haven't you already considered me dead in your heart? Do dead people know what is important?"
"Hmph! I didn't want to kill you at first. You're so beautiful and so smart. If I could have you, it would be worth dying for. However, I don't want to die yet, so it has to be you who dies."
Zhang Junsheng's words were filled with gritted teeth. Su Jin'er was a bit confused; can love really make someone so terrifying? Is it true that the deeper the love, the deeper the hate?
Listening to Su Jin'er and his conversation, Captain Xing was still trying to subdue Zhang Junsheng. When he had just fought him, they were evenly matched. As the captain of the criminal police team, he thought he was doing well, but looking at Zhang's age, he seemed only about twenty-four or twenty-five, and yet his skills were so impressive. He appeared to be trained; could there be someone behind him?
Thinking of this, Captain Xing couldn't help but take a breath. No wonder his tone was so arrogant; it turned out he had backing.
As Captain Xing pondered all this, Su Jin'er also guessed it. Although she didn't know how skilled Zhang Junsheng was, just based on his demeanor, he wouldn't be so bold alone. The real killer behind it all wasn't Zhang Junsheng; he was merely a pawn being used.
She sighed involuntarily. Perhaps the person behind this had exploited Zhang Junsheng's hatred to make him kill. However, she looked at Zhang Junsheng with curiosity and asked, "How many people have you killed?"
Zhang Junsheng didn't expect her to ask such a question suddenly, but he still answered, "Although I don't want to tell you, since you're a beauty, I'll let you know." Saying this, he lowered his hand that was covering his eyes and then held up three fingers, saying, "Three!"
