Because of Su Jin'er's words, Linyuan forgot the voice from the phone earlier. She was right; although the phone number belonged to Zuo Yi, it didn't necessarily mean that Zuo Yi was the one who called. Even with this thought, her heart still felt heavy, shifting from sadness to worry. 0

"Xiaoyuan, don't think too much. Right now, everything is just our speculation. When Feifan returns, we will go find him together." 0

Linyuan nodded lightly; for now, that was all they could do. 0

Su Jin'er watched Captain Xing return after finishing the call and said, "Captain Xing, Chu Feifan has been found, but Zuo Yi hasn't returned yet. We don't know if he is safe. The dead have already passed away; I think we need to find Zuo Yi first. I'm afraid he might also be in danger." 0

While saying this, Su Jin'er avoided Linyuan's gaze; she couldn't let her know that there was indeed a danger. 0

"Yes, once Chu Feifan returns, we will immediately look for Zuo Yi. However, I have many questions about Chu Feifan's sudden disappearance and reappearance." 0

"You're not the only one confused; we feel the same way." 0

By the time Chu Feifan returned, it was already four in the afternoon. His clothes were completely soaked as if he had just come back from a heavy rain. He sat on a stone bench, panting and looking at the unharmed Su Jin'er with surprise in his eyes. 0

"Feifan, how did you end up in that village?" Su Jin'er asked softly as his breathing gradually steadied. 0

"I don't know either. When I woke up, I was already in the house where Alang died. The villagers were all gone." 0

"What?" Captain Xing exclaimed in surprise. "How could they be gone? Did they all migrate again?" 0

"There are secrets in that village that we don't know about. It’s only now that I've realized something," Su Jin'er said while leaning against a pillar. 0

"What is it?" 0

"I remember that village had no electricity, but strangely enough, my phone was almost out of battery when I went there. Yet when the phone returned to us, it was fully charged. Isn't that odd?" 0

At that time, they were trapped. Although she had doubts when she got the phone, she thought it was just her memory playing tricks on her, so she didn't say anything. Looking back now, she realized that she hadn't charged the phone at all. More importantly, there were no power lines in that village. Even if someone had pressed the wires into the wall like modern people do, it should have been noticeable! 0

"So what you mean is that village is still very suspicious," Chu Feifan said. 0

"I just remembered something," Linyuan said as she stood up. 0

"What is it?" Captain Xing felt that there were still many things they hadn't discussed, so he took out a small notebook and started jotting down their conversation. 0

"That night when we went to the sorcerer's house, I always felt like someone was watching us. But when I turned around to look, there was nothing. I thought it was just my imagination, so I didn't mention it," Linyuan said nervously. 0

"Yes, I had the same feeling at that time, but I couldn't pinpoint where it was coming from, so I felt embarrassed to say anything," Su Jin'er said, her eyes bright and clear like a pool of water, transparent yet mysterious. 0

Linyuan's eyes darted around, and suddenly she exclaimed, "Oh! How could I forget such an important thing! I remember Zuo Yi received a phone call before he said he was going to find you. After he answered, it seemed like the other party said something. Then he walked aside and came back saying he wanted to find you. After that, he wrote down two letters in my hand and left. Now that I think about it, I realize what those two letters meant." 0

"What letters did he write?" Chu Feifan asked eagerly. 0

"CZ." 0

"CZ?" Su Jin'er thought for a moment and then looked at Chu Feifan; both widened their eyes. 0

"It must be referring to the village!" Captain Xing said quietly. 0

"Yes, that's what I think too," Linyuan replied. 0

Su Jin'er and Chu Feifan nodded in agreement. 0

"Let's go, we should head to that village immediately; there might be great rewards," Captain Xing said, appearing a bit excited. 0

Su Jin'er frowned. The village gave her an indescribable eerie feeling, as if a heavy stone was pressing down on her heart. This oppressive sensation made her breath feel constricted, her head dizzy, and her eyelids heavy with sleepiness, yet her mind was very clear, even excited. She disliked that feeling, and now they were going there; naturally, she felt a sense of aversion. 0

Chu Feifan seemed to notice her change in demeanor and asked Su Jin'er with concern, "Do you not want to go there?" 0

Su Jin'er glanced at him and then turned her gaze toward the school gate in the distance, nodding. She truly did not want to go, but she knew she had no choice; not wanting to go was merely a thought. 0

Chu Feifan suddenly brushed his fingers lightly across her small nose and said, "Don't worry. This time Captain Xing is with us; nothing will happen. I know you're not scared; you just aren't used to the feeling there. Actually, I feel the same way. It's strange—it's like being excited yet lethargic at the same time. You want to sleep but can't. It's as if all your senses become more acute; even slight emotional fluctuations seem magnified, making it easy to get angry, yet you can calm down quickly. It's this contradictory feeling, right?" 0

Su Jin'er looked at him in surprise. She thought she was the only one experiencing such strange feelings; it turned out Chu Feifan felt it too. 0

"This feeling is somewhat similar to being high on drugs. The difference is that being high makes you feel euphoric and comfortable all over, while this feeling is richer and more complex. If I'm not mistaken, once a person falls into that emotional state for too long, their mental state will collapse." 0

Before they knew it, they had exited the campus. Captain Xing opened the car door for them to get in. Once they were all seated, Captain Xing looked at the rearview mirror and said, "I heard your conversation just now. Is that how you felt after entering that village?" 0

Su Jin'er nodded, and Linyuan also nodded heavily in agreement. 0

"It seems that village really has some unspeakable secrets. Just as Chu Feifan said earlier, the feeling you described is stronger than being high on drugs; it can damage the nervous system. If it's just simple madness among people, that's one thing; but if it induces hallucinations, it could lead to serious trouble." 0

"Hallucinations?" Su Jin'er frowned. "Could what we saw in that forest be hallucinations?" After a pause, she continued, "But if it were hallucinations, that wouldn't make sense! How could we all experience the same hallucination at the same time?" 0

"It's definitely impossible for everyone to have the same hallucination simultaneously. So I think someone might have manipulated potential hallucinations to make you see certain things; that's why what you saw was identical," Captain Xing said as he started the car and drove up the mountain. 0

Because Zhang Yang's body was discovered in that cave, the police sealed off the entrance afterward. The entrances on the mountain used for misleading people were also sealed off, leaving only one passage leading to the village for its residents to exit. However, judging by the current situation, it seemed that no one from the village had come out. 0

Su Jin'er leaned her head against the car seat, overwhelmed by recent events. Wen Shishi was dead, Du Xiaonan was also dead; who would be next? Would it be herself or someone close to her? What did that person behind it all want? Was the killing for revenge or merely for entertainment? A series of questions flooded her mind as she glanced sideways at Chu Feifan. He still didn't know about Wen Shishi and Du Xiaonan's deaths. She suddenly felt curious about how Chu Feifan would react when he learned that Wen Shishi was dead. 0

Thinking this, she actually asked, "Feifan, Wen Shishi... she's dead." 0

Chu Feifan was taken aback, seemingly not understanding her meaning, looking at Su Jin'er with disbelief. 0

"You're joking! How could she possibly be dead?" 0

"I'm not joking; I saw it with my own eyes." 0

Chu Feifan's brows furrowed deeper, and he seemed a bit angry. "You saw it with your own eyes? Then why didn't you save her?" 0

"I wanted to save her, but it was too late." Looking at Chu Feifan's expression, she suddenly felt sad. Did he wish that the one who died was herself? 0

"What happened?" 0

Su Jin'er slowly recounted everything that had occurred. When Chu Feifan heard that Wen Shishi had died in Su Jin'er's arms and that the knife had been taken from her hands, his face was filled with anger, as if Su Jin'er herself had killed Wen Shishi. 0
