Chapter Eighty-One 0

The bustling streets remained lively, and no one noticed the two people emerging from a narrow gap. One had tears in her eyes, while the other wore a frown. Zuo Yi tightly held Linyuan's hand, and she was still dialing numbers on her phone repeatedly. 0

Zuo Yi looked at Linyuan and suddenly felt that her position in Linyuan's heart was not as important as Su Jin'er’s. A wave of sadness washed over her. What did it mean when Linyuan said that if Su Jin'er died, she wouldn’t live either? Would she really die for another girl, or had their relationship surpassed friendship? 0

The more Zuo Yi thought about it, the more confused she became. She felt like a woman for overthinking things. Su Jin'er was Chu Feifan's girlfriend, and if her feelings were correct, Linyuan liked her. She told herself that she was thinking too much, but looking at Linyuan, who seemed to be crying her heart out, made her feel a pang of pain. Zuo Yi had always thought that Linyuan didn’t care about anything; she was just a playful girl who loved to tease others. However, no matter how much she enjoyed teasing, she was still a girl, and her emotions were much more delicate than those of boys. Watching her cry left Zuo Yi at a loss for what to do. 0

“Don’t worry too much; maybe they left the city with that person or have already returned to school. How about we go back to school and wait?” 0

Linyuan sniffled. “Do you really think they will return to school?” 0

Zuo Yi nodded. In truth, this reasoning was quite weak because if they had truly returned to school, they wouldn’t be ignoring their calls. Still, he just didn’t know how to comfort her. 0

“Okay then, let’s go back to school and wait. We can also stop by the police station to tell Captain Xing about this.” 0

Zuo Yi didn’t oppose this idea since it was also what he thought: “My dad gave me that car, so we can drive back.” 0

He wiped away Linyuan's tears, and their figures gradually disappeared into the crowd, becoming an invisible dot. 0

Su Jin'er groggily opened her eyes; everything around her was dark, and she couldn’t see anything. 0

Had it gotten dark? 0

She wondered. 0

She wanted to sit up but found that her hands and feet were bound. The ropes were cutting into her wrists and ankles, causing sharp pain; she might have even broken the skin. 0

“Chu Feifan, are you there?” 0

The darkness enveloped her, and after waiting for a long time without any response, Su Jin'er held her breath and listened intently to the sounds around her. Her heartbeat began to quicken as she clearly heard someone's breathing. Yet no matter how hard she strained her eyes, she could see nothing. 0

“Who’s there?” She mustered her courage to ask again. 0

But still, no one answered. 0

“Who’s there? Speak up, don’t play tricks; I can hear your breathing.” She struggled to steady her trembling voice. 0

The presence of breathing indicated that it was a person. Although she did not believe in Demon, at this moment, she hoped it was a ghost rather than a human because someone was far more terrifying than a ghost. 0

Suddenly, the lights turned on, and the abrupt brightness made her squint. Once her eyes adjusted, she slowly opened them, but when she saw the scene before her, she wished the lights had remained off. 0

In front of her stood a wooden cross, similar to the one in the small forest house but with a different structure. 0

Her mouth fell open, fear filling her eyes. The air, once clear, was now thick with the stench of blood. Blood had pooled around her, and as she forcefully recoiled, the bright red liquid slithered toward her like a small snake. 0

It was a woman covered in blood; that blood was flowing from her body. Su Jin'er never imagined that a single person could contain so much blood. The woman was riddled with wounds, blood continuously oozing out and dripping onto the ground, gathering together and flowing toward Su Jin'er. 0

The woman kept her head down, so Su Jin'er could not see her face. 0

"Who are you?" Su Jin'er asked, her voice trembling. 0

The woman struggled to lift her head. 0

What a face it was! 0

One eye had been gouged out, blood streaming from it, the eyeball still connected by nerves, hanging near the corner of her mouth. Where her nose used to be was just an empty space, nothing there at all; even her mouth only had an upper lip, the lower lip completely missing, and only a few teeth remained, also bleeding continuously. 0

Su Jin'er fought against the urge to vomit; this was the most disgusting scene she had ever witnessed in her life. Although she had seen similar things in movies, that was merely a visual shock. Now she could not only see it but also smell the nauseating scent of blood. Her stomach churned violently, and finally, she bent over and began to retch. However, since she hadn't eaten, there was nothing in her stomach—only dry heaves. 0

No wonder no one had answered her earlier; all she could hear were heavy breaths. At first, she thought it was a man, but now she realized that the woman's appearance rendered her incapable of responding. Her breathing was barely sustained. It seemed that the Killer had no intention of killing her; he merely wanted her to suffer. 0

Humans are truly more cruel than ghosts. 0

Su Jin'er thought of the woman on the cross and cried. Although she had always known that this world wasn't as beautiful as she imagined, she never expected to witness such brutality. The sadness in her heart suddenly magnified; she wanted to cry out loud but couldn't make a sound. She thought of Chu Feifan and wondered how he was doing—whether he had already been harmed. The thought made her even sadder, and tears streamed down her face. 0

It was him. 0

It must be Zhang Jun, but why would he do this? 0

Suddenly, there was a sound of a lock turning outside the door. Su Jin'er shrank her neck and lay back down on the ground, pretending to be unconscious. She turned to face inward to prevent him from discovering that she was awake. 0

The woman bound to the cross heard the sound of the door opening; the remaining eye filled with fear instead of the exhaustion it had shown before. 0

The door was opened, and the bright light from outside shone into the room. Then came a creaking sound as the light was blocked again. Su Jin'er knew that the person had entered. 0

Heavy footsteps slowly approached her. She nervously closed her eyes, trying hard to stop her body from trembling. Her heart, which was beating violently, began to ache. 0

Su Jin'er felt that the person leaned in close to her face and then said, "Why are you still not awake?" 0

The blood on the ground had already flowed to Su Jin'er's side. She could feel it seeping through her clothes, sticky and uncomfortable, but she remained motionless, listening to the person's footsteps fade away. She let out a breath; thankfully, he hadn't touched her. If his blood-stained hands had come into contact with her, she didn't know how long she would have to bathe to rid herself of the disgust in her heart. 0

The footsteps seemed to stop in front of the cross. She heard a muffled sound coming from the woman's throat, like there were bubbles of blood in it, gurgling ominously. 0

Perhaps she was calling for help again, Su Jin'er thought. But now, she couldn't even save herself; how could she save her? Tears slid down from the corners of her eyes. 0

Her body was stiff, not daring to move an inch. She could hear the sound of him cutting into the woman's skin with a knife and even the sound of blood flowing out. Her teeth chattered uncontrollably as she accidentally bit down on her lip, causing a piercing pain. 0

The woman's muffled sounds continued, each one stimulating her fragile nerves. She felt like she was about to collapse; her whole body was stiff and had lost sensation. Each cut he made felt like it was being inflicted upon her, even more painfully. She didn't know how much longer this torment would last or who this person was. How could he inflict so many wounds on someone and still ensure they wouldn't die? 0

Only a doctor could do such a thing, especially a Surgeon; they are familiar with every nerve in the human body. 0

That's right, Zhang Jun is also studying medicine, so this person must be Zhang Jun. But why would he cruelly torture a woman like this? Who was this woman to him? What deep grudge did they share? 0

"Alright, stop pretending. I know you're awake. The reason I'm not exposing you is that I want you to see how I torture this woman." 0

Zhang Jun said with a smile. 0

Hearing his words, Su Jin'er remained still, only opening her closed eyes. 0

"You must be very curious about who this woman is, right? I can give you a hint! You know this woman." Zhang Jun continued to smile. 0

Know? 0

Linyuan? 0

She widened her eyes in terror, wanting to turn her body, but found that her body had become numb from being stiff for so long. Even the slightest movement felt like thousands of ants crawling over her. 0

"Don't worry, she is not your best friend." 0

Zhang Jun said again. 0
