Chu Feifan couldn't understand and cautiously pulled Su Jin'er, saying, "Why does Linyuan treat Zuo Yi like that? She can't possibly hate him, right?"
Su Jin'er looked at him with an expression of disappointment and said, "When you hate someone, do you take them shopping? Do you act like a spoiled child with them?"
Chu Feifan frowned. "Are you saying that Linyuan was acting spoiled just now?"
No way! That was a rather unique way of being spoiled! It could drive someone crazy.
"Everyone expresses their feelings differently. Since you want to know so badly, I'll tell you!" Su Jin'er glanced at Linyuan, who was still standing by the roadside, staring blankly in the direction Zuo Yi had left. "Actually, Xiaoyuan likes Zuo Yi. She just doesn't like guys who clearly have feelings but are too afraid to confess. So if Zuo Yi doesn't take the initiative, they'll just miss their chance."
Su Jin'er looked at Linyuan's dazed expression with pity; she could almost feel what Linyuan was going through.
"So that's how it is! It seems Zuo Yi needs to take action himself."
"I warn you! If you tell Zuo Yi about this, Linyuan might not care if she doesn't know, but if she finds out, she'll definitely kill the three of us."
"Why?"
"Think for yourself!"
Su Jin'er walked over to Linyuan's side. "Hey! Have you seen enough? Your crush has already walked far away."
Linyuan snapped back to reality and looked at Su Jin'er with a sad expression, startling her.
"What's wrong?"
"Why are we both so hesitant to speak up first?"
Linyuan's words made Su Jin'er frown. Then she said, "Actually, what difference does it make who speaks first? As long as you both truly love each other, that's what matters."
Linyuan blinked and suddenly broke into a smile. "Haha, gotcha! I can't believe after growing up together, you still don't know my personality!"
After saying that, she smiled and ran away. Su Jin'er stood there alone, smiling helplessly. How could she not see through it? She was just pretending to be happy!
Everyone has their own way of living; you can't change anyone, you can only change yourself to adapt to others and everything in this world.
"What are you thinking about?" Chu Feifan suddenly interrupted her thoughts.
She turned to look at him and said, "Nothing, just thinking about this case."
She wasn't being honest; she couldn't possibly tell Chu Feifan that she felt life was just too exhausting! If she did, he would definitely think she was pessimistic.
"Telling lies is not what a good child does!" Chu Feifan said in a tone mimicking Captain Xing.
Su Jin'er blinked but didn't answer. She brushed aside the hair that was blocking her view. Chu Feifan's hair had grown a bit long, with strands covering one of his eyes, which added a touch of mystery to him.
As Chu Feifan looked into her eyes, he found them beautiful; the deep black irises made it hard to look away.
Su Jin'er noticed his gaze and shyly turned her head toward the street. It was noon, and the crowd was bustling on the road. The blaring horns grated on people's nerves, making those who were already irritated even more so, with some even cursing loudly.
Shouldn't there be fewer people at noon? Su Jin'er thought as her temples throbbed and her head began to ache.
"What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?" Chu Feifan asked with concern as he noticed her slightly furrowed brows.
She shook her head and smiled, saying, "It's nothing, just a bit noisy."
"Hmph! Is Zuo Yi a snail? Why is he taking so long?" Linyuan complained, stamping her foot. She knew Su Jin'er couldn't stand noise, but she really wanted to go out for a stroll. So much had happened, and the pressure inside her was unbearable. If she didn't get out soon, she might go crazy.
"I'm fine; the traffic is so bad right now. I think he must be in a hurry too! Just be patient and wait!" She rubbed her temples.
Linyuan pouted but didn't say anything else; after all, it was her idea to go out to the city.
"Isn't today the weekend? Otherwise, how could there be so many people?"
"You're right! There usually aren't this many people during work hours."
At that moment, the cars stuck in traffic finally started moving. Those who had been leaning out of their windows to observe the situation pulled their heads back in, ready to set off.
"Is there an accident up ahead that's causing the traffic jam?" Linyuan speculated.
"Can't you think of something positive? Maybe they're doing road repairs or something," Su Jin'er shot back at her.
"This is the road to the city center! There's no way they would just randomly do repairs! It must be a car accident," Linyuan continued to argue.
Su Jin'er didn't say anything further because Linyuan was right.
"Are we still going or not?" Chu Feifan asked.
"Of course we're going. I'm determined to go no matter what," she replied.
The three of them fell silent, patiently waiting for Zuo Yi's arrival. The sun overhead was bright but not blinding, and it didn't feel hot.
The traffic on the road had mostly returned to normal, and the cars were moving faster. Finally, Zuo Yi's car appeared. Linyuan opened the door and sat in the passenger seat, immediately launching into a tirade against Zuo Yi. He remained silent, simply driving, and whether he was actually listening was anyone's guess.
Chu Feifan whispered to Su Jin'er that anyone who married Linyuan would surely be drowned by her nagging. His voice was low, but Linyuan still heard him. She turned around and glared at Chu Feifan, warning him that if he dared to speak out of turn again, she would cut out his tongue. Chu Feifan could only smile helplessly and made a gesture to seal his lips. Linyuan then turned back to face the front when Zuo Yi suddenly spoke up.
"Are you done talking?"
"Yes, I'm done."
"Is your anger gone now?"
"En!"
"Well, what I'm about to say might make you angry again, but I have to say it: I didn't hear a single word you just said."
As soon as Zuo Yi finished speaking, Linyuan lunged at him, gripping his neck tightly. Their vehicle began to sway wildly, and Su Jin'er and Chu Feifan shouted from the back to be careful.
"If you want to die together, please don't drag us into it! I haven't lived enough yet!" Chu Feifan suddenly yelled.
Sure enough, his words had an effect. Linyuan released her grip on Zuo Yi and insisted on moving from the passenger seat to the back to grab Chu Feifan by the neck, only to be stopped by Su Jin'er.
Linyuan huffed heavily, glaring first at Zuo Yi and then at Chu Feifan before turning her head to look out the window in frustration.
Su Jin'er was puzzled as to why Linyuan was so angry today. They had grown up together and she had never seen her this upset. At first, she thought Linyuan was just playing with them, but now she felt that Linyuan was genuinely angry.
But why?
After thinking for a while without any clarity, she turned her head to look out the window when a figure suddenly caught her eye and then quickly vanished. Although it was fleeting, she recognized that face; she was far too familiar with it.
"Zuo Yi, pull over."
She shouted loudly and opened the car door before it had completely stopped, rushing out to search for that familiar figure in the crowded street.
However, it was as if that person had suddenly evaporated; she couldn't find them at all. In just a minute's time—could they really fly away?
"Jin'er, what's wrong? Are you carsick?"
"She never gets carsick; she must have seen someone familiar." Linyuan understood her well because she knew Jin'er would never joke about her life. The way Jin'er jumped out of the car so urgently meant she must have discovered something important.
"What did you see?" Chu Feifan asked upon hearing Linyuan's words.
“Zhang Junsheng!”
“What?”
The three exclaimed simultaneously.
“No, it shouldn’t be Zhang Junsheng, it should be someone who looks exactly like him.”
“Zhang Junsheng wouldn’t have taken a fake death potion like Grandpa Liu, would he?” Linyuan speculated.
“If you say Grandpa Liu took a fake death potion, I can believe that, but don’t forget, Zhang Junsheng was hanged. Even if he took a fake death potion, after being hanged, he would really die, right?” Zuo Yi said.
“Only you would understand!” Linyuan immediately retorted.
“Are you saying he might be the person we saw in the village?” Chu Feifan also began searching the crowd.
“Yes, we only saw him on the night of that Ritual in the village, and we haven’t seen him since. But now he suddenly appears again. Could it be that he is the mastermind behind this case?” Su Jin'er frowned. It’s impossible! If it really were him, how could he appear so openly in the city? Doesn’t he fear raising suspicion?
