"Revenge? You want to take revenge on Dad?" Chu Feifan asked.
"What’s wrong?" Chu Bufan twirled the ring on his little finger and then looked up at him, saying, "If you knew what I know about him, I think you wouldn't be so angry."
He smiled wickedly.
"I won't allow you to do that!"
"Heh, do you really think you can stop me? Just look at your current situation."
Su Jin'er released Chu Feifan's hand and asked, "What is your plan?"
"My plan is—I'm not going to tell you!"
He turned his wheelchair, preparing to leave.
"Wait a minute, you haven't finished speaking," Chu Feifan shouted.
"Haha—" Chu Bufan laughed as he left.
Su Jin'er returned to the corner and continued sitting. He had only shared half of what he knew about Li Yiqian; the rest could be guessed, but why did he want to kill Grandpa Liu and Zhang Junsheng? Were they part of his plan?
"What are you thinking?" Chu Feifan also sat down.
"I'm thinking about your brother killing people. It feels like something is off, but I can't quite put my finger on it."
"Given the current situation, we only know that he instigated Li Yiqian to kill Li Yiqing and Li Ran, as well as committing murder in this village. As for the deaths of Grandpa Liu and Zhang Junsheng, we have no evidence. I'm really worried about his plan."
"We need to find a way to escape," Su Jin'er said firmly.
Gaya Ze glanced at the clock; it was already six o'clock, and it was getting dark. Chu Feifan still hadn't returned. He wouldn't be subjected to some kind of 'punishment,' would he?
He paced back and forth countless times, footprints overlapping on the ground. Suddenly, he stopped and bent down to pick up a piece of wire from the ground. He smiled and said, "It seems that heaven doesn't want us to die here."
He walked towards the door with a piece of wire in hand, extending both hands outside and slowly inserting the wire into the lock cylinder.
"It's already dark. I wonder how Jin'er and the others are doing. I'm so worried!" After sitting still for an entire afternoon, Linyuan could no longer contain herself. She stood up and walked to the door, looking outside, fully aware that she wouldn't see anything, but still wanting to look.
Zuo Yi crossed his arms behind his head and said, "I just hope that Gaya Ze can find a way to open the lock."
Linyuan turned to look at him and asked, "Gaya Ze can pick locks?"
"Yeah! I just don't know where he is locked up or if he can find the tools to open it. Speaking of which, this pervert is quite interesting; he actually used a three-ring lock." He chuckled after saying that.
Linyuan pouted and said, "You can still laugh? We're about to report to the King of Hell!"
"Worrying doesn't help. All I know is that I'm really hungry right now!" One hand remained behind his head while the other rubbed his stomach.
"You're such a glutton!" Linyuan angrily sat down, not forgetting to shoot him a fierce glare.
Seeing Linyuan's expression only made Zuo Yi laugh more.
Just as Linyuan was about to scold him, footsteps suddenly echoed from outside the cave. The person seemed to be deliberately walking quietly. Linyuan and Zuo Yi exchanged glances, both frowning, unsure of who was approaching. If it were that pervert sending food, there was no way they would make such footsteps.
They widened their eyes and stared outside until a figure appeared in their line of sight. Once they recognized his face, they nearly jumped up and screamed. Gaya Ze made a shushing gesture at them and then took out the wire to unlock the door.
"Feifan and Jin'er aren't with you?" Zuo Yi stepped out of the cell and asked quietly.
"It turns out Feifan was with me but was taken away later. He hasn't returned since. This place isn't safe; we need to get out and find those two first. I just checked; there are three caves here. You stay here while I go in the middle. Let's check the right side; maybe they're inside."
Gaya Ze was right; Chu Feifan and Su Jin'er were indeed locked in the cave on the right side, where they were discussing a plan regarding Chu Bufan.
"Ah! Jin'er, they're really here? Woo—" Linyuan exclaimed excitedly upon seeing them but was quickly silenced by Zuo Yi covering her mouth as he widened his eyes at her.
"Shh—don't say anything!"
Meanwhile, Gaya Ze had already walked over to unlock the door. "Let's leave quickly!"
He turned and walked outside. They were currently on the hillside, and they had been blindfolded when brought here, so no one knew how far they were from the village. They ran along the path to the right, and it was already dark; the ground was covered with grass, trees, and some unknown plants.
After running for a long time, they finally could not run anymore and leaned against a tree, gasping heavily.
"Having run this far, they should have trouble finding us now!" Linyuan said, wiping the sweat from his forehead.
"I don't know; we should keep running!" Su Jin'er said anxiously as she looked back. They had been running along the path, and it was possible that their pursuers would catch up soon.
"Don't you think it's strange here? We shouldn't be at the top of the mountain! Why is it all flat land?" Gaya Ze pointed at the ground.
"I know where we are! We're in the forest behind the village!" Su Jin'er exclaimed.
"Right! How did I not think of that? I remember we ran here when we escaped that day, and we even encountered..."
Suddenly, a gust of cold wind blew by, causing Zuo Yi to close his mouth.
Linyuan also recalled something; she nervously looked around. "We won't encounter it again today, will we?"
"What are you all talking about?" Chu Feifan asked, confused.
"This isn't a place for talking. If I remember correctly, we're facing south now, and south is where the village is. The north is the mountain, and we came from the east. So now we should head south," Zuo Yi said while stroking his chin.
"Isn't that where the village is? You don't think the most dangerous place is also the safest place, do you?" Linyuan frowned.
"That's what I think!"
"No way!" Chu Feifan said. "We should go into the mountains."
"Why?"
"Because if he knows we've run away, he will definitely have people waiting for us in the village to catch us when we return." He understood his brother's temperament; he would split them into two groups: one to pursue and another to guard the most dangerous yet safest spot.
"How do you know?" Zuo Yi asked curiously.
"Because he is—Chu Bufan!"
"What?"
Everyone except Su Jin'er gasped in surprise.
Chu Feifan remembered that his brother had once told him that the most dangerous place was often the safest.
"How could it be your brother?" Seeing the silent Chu Feifan, Zuo Yi asked again.
"Let's talk while we walk!"
They left the path and headed north through the woods. Along the way, Chu Feifan recounted everything Chu Bufan had told them, though he did not mention what had happened between him and Su Jin'er in that house.
"So your brother is not dead, and your father knows about it?" Zuo Yi picked up a stick from the ground.
"Yes! I always wondered why my father agreed to let me study medicine; now I understand."
"What is your brother's plan?" Linyuan asked curiously.
"I want to know too!" Chu Feifan shrugged helplessly.
"I think we should call the police," Su Jin'er, who had been silent, suddenly said.
"Yes! I agree," Gaya Ze nodded in agreement.
"I agree too!" Linyuan chimed in happily.
"Right, before he carries out his plan," Zuo Yi patted Chu Feifan on the shoulder.
Chu Feifan remained silent. This matter involved his father and brother. Although he did not know what his brother's plan was, it must have been designed for revenge against their father. But what had their father done to make his brother so angry?
Before they knew it, they had reached the foot of the mountain and then continued walking westward.
"Are we not going up the mountain?" Linyuan pointed to a small path leading uphill.
"We're not going up; we're heading west," Chu Feifan said cautiously, walking at the back.
He felt sad that the two people closest to him were about to kill each other; how could he accept that?
Su Jin'er deliberately slowed her pace to walk beside him. "I know you're upset, but I have my doubts about your brother's words. We can't just listen to his side of the story."
"I've doubted his words too, but I..."
"You also doubt your father, right?" Su Jin'er took his hand and intertwined her fingers with his, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "Don't worry; your dad will handle everything, and you still have me."
Chu Feifan turned to look at her and nodded. Their hands were tightly clasped together.
Linyuan leaned closer to Zuo Yi and whispered, "It seems like those two are getting closer. Chu Feifan, that slowpoke, has finally woken up."
"It looks like it. Seems like Chu Bufan isn't completely useless after all!"
