After that day, Su Jin'er began to investigate the strange murder case on her own. She was neither a police officer nor a detective, so she had no way of knowing the specifics of the case. 0

Due to the sudden deaths of three people at school, everyone was on edge. The principal had initially asked the police to keep the matter confidential, but with three deaths in quick succession, it was impossible to keep it under wraps any longer. 0

"Su Jin'er, where are you going again?" Linyuan came out of the bathroom and saw Su Jin'er trying to sneak away. 0

"Uh! I have something I need to take care of outside. You stay here in the dorm and wait for me," she said, facing away from Linyuan while pulling at the half-open door. 0

"No way! Last time you sneaked off, I was worried sick. This time you can't leave me behind," Linyuan said, tears welling in her eyes. 0

"Xiaoyuan, you know that Qian Qian has been missing for a week now, and the police have found nothing. I can't let you get into danger too; if that happens, I will never forgive myself." 0

"Then do you think I can forgive myself for letting you get into danger while I investigate this? But I know Linyuan, we are both very aware of Xiaonan's situation. So let me join you in this investigation." Linyuan's tone was firm. Despite Su Jin'er having a thousand reasons not to agree, she couldn't do anything about it because they understood each other so well. 0

Linyuan was right; Du Xiaonan's condition was getting worse. She seemed dazed every day and often mumbled incoherently. The worst part was that she would faint periodically and lose parts of her memory upon waking up. Now she didn't recognize anyone and often muttered strange things. However, strangely enough, she knew when it was time to eat; she seemed aware of everything a normal person would do, as if her body were being controlled by another soul rather than herself. 0

How could she think of this? Did she still subconsciously believe in ghosts? 0

She startled herself with this thought; it had to be something man-made! 0

Seeing Su Jin'er's silence, Linyuan thought she was angry but still firmly stated, "Even if you're mad, I'm still going with you." 0

"No! I'm not angry, fine! You can come with me!" 0

Hearing this, Linyuan jumped up happily. Su Jin'er helplessly looked at her dressed-up appearance; she wasn't going to take a shower at all—she was clearly waiting to catch her! 0

"Where are we going now?" 0

As they walked down the dormitory stairs, Linyuan asked quietly. 0

"Do you remember what Li Yiqian said the last time we heard a knock on the door?" 0

"What did she say?" 0

"She mentioned that if there were words on the wall, I should check the next day, but there were no words at all." 0

"So you mean she was lying?" 0

"Yes, and it seems like she is hiding something from us, and it has a lot to do with what we're investigating." 0

"Could it be that someone deliberately scraped off the words?" 0

Su Jin'er shook her head. "There are no signs of scraping on the wall at all." 0

At that moment, they had reached the school gate. Uncle Zhang in the security room saw them and waved with a smile, and they waved back cheerfully. 0

"You’re not planning to go to that creepy forest, are you?" Just thinking about that eerie forest made her teeth chatter. 0

"You guessed it right. Although we can't know the true cause of Zhang Junsheng's death, I have a feeling he left us clues." Su Jin'er looked at the strange forest, searching for the tree where Zhang Junsheng was hanged when he died. 0

"Do you already have a lead?" 0

"No, I don't know anything; it's all just a feeling. Look, it's this tree." 0

"How do you know it's this tree? Is it just another feeling?" 0

"Of course not! Hehe, it's because of this." She pointed to a very small white bead under the tree. That was something she had intentionally left behind that day. The bead was tiny and would be nearly invisible if one didn't look closely, which explained why she had been bending down to examine the ground earlier. 0

"You really have some schemes, don't you?" Linyuan pouted. 0

Su Jin'er looked at her with a smile and said, "Alright, help me find something, like paper or anything suspicious." 0

Seeing her serious expression, Linyuan squinted and said, "Oh! Our beautiful Su has become a detective. I wonder if Chu the Young Master still dares to pursue her?" 0

Hearing her words, Su Jin'er blushed and replied, "If you keep joking around, I won't talk to you anymore." 0

"Ah! You're shy now. It seems Chu the Young Master has an effect on you," Linyuan teased. 0

"Stop messing around and get to business!" Su Jin'er glared at her as Linyuan's jokes became more outrageous. 0

Linyuan shrugged and fell silent. 0

Perhaps because of their playful banter, the surroundings no longer felt so eerie. 0

Little did they know that the thing they were looking for was quietly waiting for them in a tree hollow. 0

In the boys' dormitory, Chu Feifan lay on his bed feeling frustrated. He didn't even know why he was so angry, and Su Jin'er wasn't anyone special to him; he had no reason to be mad at her! With that thought, he suddenly sat up, startling Zuo Yi. 0

"Hey! What are you doing? You've had a sour face these past few days. Who upset you?" Zuo Yi put down his book and looked at him quietly. "You aren't still mad about Su Jin'er, are you?" 0

"Of course not! I just think there are too many suspicious things happening at school!" 0

"Is that so?" Zuo Yi looked at him with a smirk. "What's wrong with admitting you like her? Is it really that complicated?" 0

Zuo Yi hid behind his book, secretly laughing at Chu Feifan's flushed face. He had never seen him look so flustered. 0

"I'm just really worried about her. Why is she so stubborn?" He raked his fingers through his messy hair. Why are girls so difficult? 0

"You have your stubbornness, she has her persistence. How come you're so smart in other aspects, yet so—foolish—when it comes to love?" 0

"You—are you calling me foolish?" 0

"Of course! I think you're the selfish one here! You're only worried about her safety, while she's concerned about everyone's safety. Although it's right for you to worry about her, you can't call her selfish!" 0

Zuo Yi secretly laughed at his increasingly awkward expression; indeed, what goes around comes around! Chu the Young Master couldn't escape the matters of the heart either. 0

"So what should I do now? Should I go find her and apologize?" Chu Feifan said distressed. He had never liked any girl before, so he had no idea how to interact with one. 0

"I don't think that's necessary." 0

"Why not?" 0

"I don't think she's actually angry; she's just worried about her friend." 0

Chu Feifan lowered his head. Indeed! How could he be so foolish? Her roommate was missing; she should be worried about how to find her, not getting tangled up in trivial matters. What was wrong with him? 0

"I think the information we've gathered about Zhang Junsheng will be very relevant to this matter. I should protect her from the shadows." 0

"Exactly! The key to winning a girl's heart is to make her feel touched." Zuo Yi walked up to Chu Feifan. "What are you going to do about your brother?" 0

Chu Feifan shook his head. Just thinking about his brother gave him a headache. When he was ten and his brother was fifteen, they had a fight with their father, and his brother was kicked out of the house. He thought it was just a temporary anger between them, but a year later, his brother committed murder. To make matters worse, their father didn't save him; instead, he locked the sixteen-year-old Chu Feifan in prison, believing it would teach him a lesson. However, things turned out exactly the opposite. His brother escaped two years later and then vanished without a trace for seven years. After he got into college, his father's task for him was to find his brother, Chu Bufan. 0

"He has been missing for seven years, and now Dad suddenly wants us to find him? What's that all about?" 0

"It's been seven years; maybe he's long gone." 0

"No, he's still alive and doing well. I believe my dad must have found evidence that he's alive but hasn't told me." 0

"Then you should ask your father clearly!" 0

"He won't tell me. Maybe he has other intentions." 0

"What do you plan to do?" 0

"I have no idea right now." He rubbed his nose and said, "Forget it, let's focus on solving the immediate problem! Su Jin'er and the others will definitely look for clues, and I'm worried they might be in danger." 0

Zuo Yi nodded. They were unaware that at that moment, Su Jin'er and Linyuan were searching for possible clues left by Zhang Junsheng in the nearby woods. 0

"Jin'er, do you really think he will leave clues? I just can't bring myself to believe in him!" 0

"I don't know. I feel like he knows a lot." She used the stick in her hand to sift through a pile of leaves, examining them carefully. 0

There was too much garbage here; whether it was drink cans or food wrappers, they were everywhere, and there were pieces of paper scattered all over the ground. It was impossible to find anything. 0
