The black mist rolled like thick fog, instantly darkening everything in its path as it spread rapidly. Soon it reached Li Hong and Heavenly Torch. Startled by Shennong's shout, they quickly jumped up. Unable to think of a better solution, Li Hong summoned the Eight Formation Flag and jumped into its space with Heavenly Torch.
Shennong and the others continued to retreat, but the black mist advanced even faster. Soon they found themselves cornered with nowhere else to go. Looking up, Shennong saw the circular entrance above them and noticed there was still some distance between the black mist and the ceiling. He shouted decisively, "Let's retreat first!" He took the lead and shot upwards through the entrance.
Seeing that the entire space was about to be engulfed by the toxic mirage gas—rumored to dissolve flesh into pus—no one dared linger. They hurriedly followed Shennong, each one quickly darting up through the entrance. In an instant, most had already passed through. The two Shin Yao below panicked at this sight. The black mist was indeed toxic mirage gas; however, what Shennong did not know was that this mirage gas was actually transformed from Shenlong's innate cultivation. Thus, what was being expelled was essentially years of accumulated essence from both Shenlongs—something they would never use lightly unless faced with life-and-death situations. The two Shin Yao were desperate; they could not believe that their cooked duck was flying away before their eyes! The Northern Mirage Demon immediately leaped up in frustration, blocking the small entrance with its body. It opened its massive mouth wide and aimed a blast of mirage gas at Aurora as she flew past.
Caught off guard and just about to exit through the entrance, Aurora suddenly found herself facing an obstruction; darkness enveloped her vision as she sensed danger and attempted to retreat—but it was too late.
At that moment, Aurora felt a hot hand tightly grasping her foot and yanked her away forcefully. Aurora understood immediately that there was no chance to resist; she was thrown out by this person and landed safely in a corner free of mirage gas.
Looking up, she was shocked to see Tianqi Zi had saved her.
At this critical moment, Tianqi Zi had seen the danger beneath Aurora and grabbed her leg to throw her out just as the black mist reached his face. With determination, he relied on his thick armor-like skin and transformed back into his original form. Holding his breath, he braced himself against the thick ink-like mirage gas while simultaneously kicking out at the obstructing Northern Mirage Demon.
The Qilin's body was extraordinary; its toughness unmatched. As all four hooves kicked out simultaneously like four great mountains crashing down on the Northern Mirage Demon's mouth and chest. The Shin Yao let out a terrible cry as dozens of Steel Teeth flew out like rain from its mouth while its chest cracked loudly; although its hard outer scales remained intact, seventeen or eighteen bones inside were shattered. It became a meatball that flew backward.
However, Tianqi Zi was directly engulfed by the incoming thick ink-like mirage gas. He screamed in agony, "My eyes! I can't see!" In pain, he tossed his head around in confusion and inadvertently ran toward the center of the thick mirage gas. Just as Aurora's body was about to enter the black mist, Tianqi Zi suddenly regained consciousness. With a thrust of his long horn, he lifted Aurora's body out of the black mist. He shouted, "Don't come over! We will still be good brothers in the next life!" Suddenly, his body erupted in a burst of flames, revealing a Qilin with a dragon's head, deer antlers, lion's eyes, tiger's back, bear's waist, snake scales, horse hooves, and an ox tail—magnificent beyond compare. Its Insightful Eye flashed like lightning towards Aurora, nodding slightly before it began to run in circles. Wherever it ran, the black mist dissipated. In no time, the black mist in the space grew lighter and gradually faded away. Finally, this fiery Qilin charged into the corner where the Northern Mirage Demon was still groaning after having its ribs broken. With a thunderous crash, a rain of blood erupted in the corner.
As flesh splattered everywhere and the blood light faded away, both the Qilin and the Northern Mirage Demon had vanished.
This scene unfolded too quickly; Li Hong had just jumped out of the Eight Formation Flag with Heavenly Torch and could only watch helplessly, feeling deeply saddened that Tianqi Zi had left just like that.
Now that the space was safe, Li Hong spotted the Desert South Shapeshifter cowering behind a Black Jade Platform. It had already spat out its life essence and was left with very few means to defend itself. So when it saw Li Hong jump out, it shrank back in fear, hoping Li Hong wouldn't notice it for now.
With pent-up anger having no outlet for release, Li Hong soared into the sky without looking back. All his Flying Swords were summoned and rained down upon the Desert South Shapeshifter. At the same time, Heavenly Torch roared angrily, "Kill these beasts!" Over a hundred chaotic Extreme Treasures shot towards the Desert South Shapeshifter like hail.
Aurora watched as Tianqi Zi disappeared right before his eyes; for the first time, he did not cry. His eyes widened as he suddenly shouted, "It's mine! None of you are allowed to touch it!" His form shifted as he revealed his true self—a long azure-green transparent pillar of light that coiled around the Desert South Shapeshifter tightly and lifted it into the air.
The Desert South Shapeshifter couldn't resist at all; it was bound by Aurora's true form until its bones were shattered. A series of cracking sounds erupted from its body as blood foam quickly flowed from its mouth; it was clear that it was running out of breath. Aurora let out another roar and suddenly covered Shin Yao's body with a layer of dense ice shards. Then Aurora twisted hard; with a loud cracking sound, Shin Yao shattered into countless ice fragments that fell to the ground.
The Desert South Shapeshifter was thus dealt with.
Aurora avenged his brother but did not revert to his original form. His massive azure-green pillar-like body swayed towards the last Black Jade Platform where Azure Sun Mirage Beast was hiding beneath the side of the high platform, hugging its head and trembling.
Just as Aurora was about to attack Azure Sun Mirage Beast, Li Hong had no choice but to intervene. At this moment, Fuxi and others returned; everyone mourned for Tianqi Zi while also trying to dissuade Aurora.
There was no choice; there were hundreds of thousands of mortals in Sunrise City. If Azure Sun Mirage Beast died, its true form would immediately become nothing more than a lifeless shell. The great river and Restrictions outside Sunrise City would break instantly, endangering countless lives.
Aurora resentfully retracted his true form and transformed back into human shape. After glancing at his tattered clothes, he lowered his head slightly. Li Hong noticed that from then on Aurora no longer cried; his last tears were shed for brother Tianqi Zi. After that moment, he never shed another tear again. The Dark Jade Pearl thus lost its source.
Everyone collected their emotions and cleaned up the aftermath.
The Azure Sun Mirage Beast had been frightened out of its wits; controlling it was easy since it dared not move left or right. Li Hong continued to bind it with Binding Immortal Rope without using those two Purple Veils; Shin Yao Yao Ying behaved obediently. After carefully inspecting everything from top to bottom here again, they still found nothing related to an exit to the outside world.
