What exactly are these?
While pondering this question, Li Hong felt that he was getting closer to Heavenly Torch; there were less than two hundred miles between them.
With his Divine Consciousness paving the way ahead cautiously, suddenly Li Hong felt joy at first but then shock hit him again.
Heavenly Torch was indeed just two hundred miles away. Something felt off; it transformed back into its massive dragon form and rolled across the sandy ruins with its True Fire blazing fiercely. The sand rose high into the air; even without using Divine Consciousness, one could see faint dark yellow dust rising into the sky from afar. It seemed to be battling something but upon closer inspection, there appeared to be no opponent. Looking again, it seemed as if it were scratching itself since it kept rubbing its body against the sand, extinguishing large patches of True Fire on its surface.
Li Hong felt both worried and confused; with a long roar, he swiftly rushed toward Heavenly Torch.
At this moment, Heavenly Torch sensed Li Hong approaching from afar and shouted in Dragon Language, "Brother, come help me see what’s crawling under my dragon skin; it’s driving me crazy! I can’t take it anymore!"
He let out a massive roar, crashing his entire body onto the sandy ruins, turning large areas of the celestial palace ruins into fine dust without a sound. However, this action did not alleviate his discomfort at all. He felt like he wanted to peel off his entire dragon skin, jumping and rolling violently, stirring up clouds of dust for miles around.
Li Hong rushed to his side and, seeing the enormous dragon body with nowhere to help, shouted a reminder, "Big brother, shrink down! Let me take a look!"
Enduring the intense itch all over his body, Heavenly Torch twisted his dragon form and gradually shrank down until he was about a hundred feet long. Breathing heavily, he roared, "It itches so much! I feel like I could shed my skin!"
Li Hong scanned him with Divine Consciousness but found no abnormalities; nothing had crawled inside him. However, he sensed a change in Heavenly Torch's aura; there were faint traces of death energy in about a dozen places on his body, and this death energy was constantly moving.
Li Hong's heart sank as he asked seriously, "Did something crawl into your body?"
Heavenly Torch nodded hurriedly, "Yeah, I was inexplicably transported here. It felt strange because this place is nothing like the legendary celestial realm. Then I felt something crawling under my skin—it's so itchy! Oh no! Another one came in—no, two!" Heavenly Torch babbled incoherently and roared again, unable to stop himself from rolling on the sand.
Li Hong shouted a warning: "They fear True Fire! Quickly set yourself on fire!"
Having just arrived and being stunned by the strange celestial realm situation, Heavenly Torch was caught off guard by those strange creatures that took advantage of his distraction. Now in a panic from the unbearable itchiness, he quickly shook his body and summoned roaring True Fire that soared three meters high. The strange creatures retreated in fear; however, the ten or so that had already crawled inside him were still alive and writhing around painfully, making Heavenly Torch wish he could peel off his own skin.
He quickly transformed his body into a blazing fireball and burned himself inside and out for ten breaths of time before finally incinerating those strange creatures within him. Once he returned to human form, he didn’t dare be careless anymore. Since he shared some Divination Technique with Li Hong and had acquired Void Flame Armor, he quickly followed Li Hong's example to keep the Void Flame Armor active around him. Feeling uneasy, he said, "What are these Evil Spirits? I almost fell for it! Also, where exactly is this place? It doesn’t look like the celestial realm at all. By the way, where’s Ling Yanzi?"
With a rapid-fire series of questions, Li Hong could only smile wryly as he admitted, "Honestly speaking, I don’t know either. However," Li Hong's expression turned serious as he relayed his findings to Heavenly Torch: "We need to find Chu Xi and Ling Yanzi quickly. "How about we move forward and ask someone?" suggested Heavenly Torch.
Li Hong couldn't help but chuckle again: "Big brother, do you think I don’t want to ask someone? Look around—besides us two unfortunate souls who inexplicably ascended here, where else is there anyone?"
"Don’t rush; I’ve heard that the celestial realm spans countless miles. This is just one small area. Let’s keep going and see if we can shake off these Evil Spirits. By the way, what exactly are these things? They’re neither ghosts nor celestial beings; I’m so clueless that I can’t even recognize them! Is this really the celestial realm?" Heavenly Torch muttered.
As they spoke, having each other as companions made them feel much better as they remained vigilant while moving forward.
Two hours later, they found that the ruins ahead had vanished, revealing an eerily calm and lifeless Desert expanse. Countless miles of yellow sand stretched endlessly before them—no dunes or any terrain features—completely devoid of greenery; it was just flat and barren sand as far as the eye could see. The sky mirrored this desolation—no clouds or visible sun or stars; it seemed perpetually daytime yet appeared just as dim and murky as the desert below.
The two ascended higher into the sky; however high they flew seemed irrelevant—the ground and sky remained unchanged as if everything was stuck in place with no difference in sight. This indicated that this celestial realm likely had spatial restrictions preventing them from breaking free.
Heavenly Torch felt a chill run down his spine: "My dragon eyes can see for miles, but now all I see is sand everywhere. What if we walk for a year or two without reaching an end? Brother, to be honest with you—I’m feeling a bit scared right now. This celestial realm is too Strange!"
Li Hong actually felt uncertain as he pondered and looked back.
The ruins of the celestial palace were still behind him, faintly visible with the collapsed pavilions and towers, which covered an astonishing area of over two thousand miles. However, one thing was certain: after leaving that expanse of yellow sand ruins, those strange things began to disperse.
After thinking for a moment, Li Hong said, "Let's take some time to circle around this celestial palace great city and see what we can discover."
"That's a good idea. Those evil spirits seem to only be inside the ruins. Honestly, I'm not afraid of them; it's just that if we encounter any opponents, it could get troublesome. Let's carefully make our way around and see what we find. After all, with our divine consciousness combined, we could catch even an ant."
Thus, the two began to circle the ruins of the celestial palace. The great city, spanning two thousand miles, took a considerable amount of time to navigate. About three days later in the human realm, they returned to their original spot.
Still, there were no discoveries. This area was completely desolate. Apart from thousands of those formless and shadowy creatures, there was no sign of life; not even a single ant that Heavenly Torch hoped to see.
However, they did make one observation: although the northern part of this great city was also desert, beyond a thousand miles lay a terrifying void with nothing at all. This meant that the celestial realm actually had boundaries, and that void marked the end of the celestial realm. Considering this, heading south might yield some discoveries.
To the south was the vast expanse of flat dead sand they had seen when they first exited the ruins.
At this point, the two had no choice but to grit their teeth and head south, feeling quite uncertain inside. The desert was too vast; the terrain was completely uniform with no guiding methods or reference points to discern direction. Even immortals could easily get lost.
