The Underground Sutra Chamber was quiet. Li Hong and Ling Yi Zi occupied a corner of the Silk Scroll Room, contemplating the vast array of Star Sect Divine Techniques. Three months had already passed.
During these three months, the two had not stepped outside, opening one Silk Scroll after another to comprehend the supreme techniques within. Sometimes they would discuss, at other times they would perform impromptu demonstrations, but more often than not, they sat silently among the piles of scrolls, reciting and pondering.
It is said that mastering one technique leads to understanding all techniques. Gradually, both of them realized that the Divination Techniques here could be divided into three main categories: the first being instrument techniques related to artifact forging, such as formation diagrams and methods for crafting specific purpose items; the second being alchemical techniques related to pill refining; and the third being miscellaneous techniques like Qimen Dunjia, including Soul Searching Techniques and other unconventional methods for overcoming adversaries. As time passed, they increasingly felt that something was missing here.
One day, Li Hong closed the Silk Scroll in his hand, watching it roll up automatically like a spirit snake. He said aloud to Ling Yi Zi, "Master Uncle, I feel that the Divination Techniques here seem incomplete."
"Yes! I feel the same way," Ling Yi Zi nodded in agreement as soon as Li Hong finished speaking.
Li Hong continued, "It seems that these are mostly basic minor techniques, lacking profound sect-defining arts. In other words, the so-called Star Sect Divine Techniques share a common origin with our Nine Major Sects of the Immortal Sect's techniques, but they are more extensive and detailed; they are indeed treasures. However, they only serve as inspiration for our deeper exploration of heavenly principles and cannot be practiced or borrowed."
"You are absolutely right," Ling Yi Zi sighed, tossing aside the Silk Scroll in his hand. After a moment of thought, he stroked his chin and looked intently at Li Hong, saying directly, "I want to ask you what is in those twenty or so secret chambers next door?"
Li Hong was quite clear about this but smiled wryly and spread his hands. "It is said to be a place reserved for those with fate. Chuxiong is currently in one of them in seclusion; he obtained a remarkable technique called the Threefold Six Crossing Ten Thousand Source Technique there. As for Chu Xi, she also gained something here initially related to Water Attribute Techniques, but even she said she did not comprehend it thoroughly and felt somewhat confused. As for me, it's even stranger; I entered one chamber and received some guidance from someone which greatly enhanced my cultivation level, but honestly speaking, I gained nothing else. Besides these three chambers, I have tried others but couldn't get in at all. Master Uncle, don’t say you haven’t tried; I know you’ve attempted every single one. You are not someone with fate; you couldn’t enter any of them either, right?"
Ling Yi Zi pondered thoughtfully. "So that's how it is. I understand now. The truly profound and excellent techniques along with great Divination Techniques must be in those secret chambers. Perhaps those twenty chambers represent twenty different techniques, but the restrictions on these chambers are selective; only those suitable for cultivating within can enter. It seems we are fated to miss out on the most profound techniques and Divination Techniques of the Star Sect."
Li Hong smiled and said, "Master Uncle, don’t say that; I can tell you have gained something from your comprehension so far. You definitely need to enter seclusion."
Ling Yi Zi countered with a question: "What about you?"
Li Hong mimicked Ling Yi Zi's gesture of stroking his chin and pondered aloud: "I do have some vague feelings inside; I also need to enter seclusion to reflect."
"Alright then, let’s move to the Ancient Celestial Field Temple's seclusion chamber now. If either of us makes any gains, we will inform each other when we come out."
"One word is a promise."
The two returned to the first level of the Underground Palace. Li Hong instructed the Spirit of the Hall a few words and then teleported himself and Ling Yi Zi to the closed-door room of the Ancient Celestial Field Temple. As soon as they arrived, both of them paused and looked towards a certain spot on the second floor.
A powerful wave of Fire Spirit energy emanated from that area, where the air was filled with tiny crimson crystals. This was a sign that Li Fire Aura had become so concentrated that it was beginning to crystallize, indicating someone was at a critical juncture in their breakthrough.
Li Hong was overjoyed and clapped his hands, saying, "Yun Jiuzi is about to break through!"
Ling Yi Zi's eyes flickered as he casually nodded at Li Hong, randomly choosing a closed-door room on the first floor. He activated the Restrictions, and the Azure Jade Gate silently closed shut.
Seeing Ling Yi Zi begin his closed-door training, Li Hong floated up and went straight to his exclusive closed-door room. He performed a hand seal to open it and stepped inside.
His Heavenly Soul Avatar had already condensed to ninety-nine percent, needing just a little more effort. Li Hong circled around it three times, nodding in satisfaction before retreating to a corner, sitting cross-legged and starting to contemplate the Divination Techniques he had recently studied.
What he needed now was to integrate his understanding and see if he could gain any insights.
Li Hong's mind was completely absorbed in this task, completely unaware that Ling Yi Zi's closed-door room had silently opened again.
Ling Yi Zi stepped out and looked towards the second floor, a flash of killing intent crossing his eyes. Observing the floating tiny Fire Jade Essence on the second floor, Ling Yi Zi stood still, nervously contemplating.
Yun Jiuzi had long reached the Heavenly Fusion Stage. He had been trapped in the Nine Li Cave Heaven's Li Fire Formation for over ten years. Although his cultivation had stagnated during that time, his state of mind had continuously improved. Now that he had emerged from the Li Huo Cave Heaven and was stimulated by ample Li Fire Aura, he finally achieved unity between his cultivation and mindset, beginning to advance to higher levels. Upon exiting this closed-door training, he would surely be on the brink of crossing tribulation.
The final hurdle was an understanding of the heavenly principles, which would trigger Tribulation. If he could endure through it, he would ascend.
Thinking of this, Ling Yi Zi's hand trembled slightly as he sighed; it was a wasted effort!
If Yun Jiuzi were to emerge, given his current powerful cultivation, his greatest secret would likely be exposed. The only option now was to leave!
Ling Yi Zi immediately made a decision, placing his hand on the Ice and Fire Flower to teleport to the tower. He then called upon the Spirit of the Hall, asking it to transport him to the Southern Wilderness Great Lake Ruins.
The Spirit of the Hall appeared promptly and complied, but after a moment of thought, respectfully asked, "Where are you going? If the Star Sovereign emerges, how should I explain your absence?"
Ling Yi Zi snapped, "Mind your own business! Where I go is none of your concern!"
The Spirit of the Hall was taken aback.
Ling Yi Zi quickly changed his tone, fearing that he might alert others. He said gently, "Tell Li Hong that I have gone traveling to comprehend the way of heaven. Once I have gained some understanding, I will return."
"Understood." The Spirit of the Hall nodded respectfully. In the next moment, Ling Yi Zi found himself beneath the Southern Wilderness Great Lake. He soared out of the water, glanced around, and immediately vanished into the boundless mist.
The Spirit of the Hall was puzzled by Ling Yi Zi's hasty departure, but that was not something he needed to ponder. Just then, he heard Yan Luo calling for him, and in an instant, he appeared beside Yan Luo.
Yan Luo was pointing at Old Ghost and scolding him, saying, "Now that the Spirit of the Hall is here, I don't care; you discuss it with him. Anyway, I want delicious food that can enhance my cultivation. Otherwise, hum! When Li Hong comes out, I'll tell him..."
Before finishing her sentence, Old Ghost began shouting loudly: "Please have mercy, Fairy! Old Servant will definitely obey! And Lord Spirit, please think carefully and fulfill Yuanluo Fairy's request! Old Servant bows to Lord Spirit!"
Such matters were trivial for the Spirit of the Hall and were resolved in an instant. Just as he was about to leave, Yan Luo called out from behind: "By the way, have you seen Ling Yi Zi?"
“Ling Yi Zi has left and may not return for a while,” the Spirit of the Hall replied.
Yan Luo was startled and quickly inquired further. After a moment, she waved her hand, “You can go.”
Old Ghost hurriedly followed the Spirit of the Hall out. Yan Luo paced back and forth in the room, growing increasingly curious. It sounded like Ling Yi Zi had left in a hurry; could it be that he had revealed something? The thought brought her great joy, and she quickly exited the room, searching around Temple City before stealthily making her way to Ling Yi Zi's room, hoping to uncover the reason for his abrupt departure.
She expected it would take some effort, but to her surprise, Ling Yi Zi's room was completely unguarded, allowing anyone to enter. Inside was only an Ancient Spirit Beast, fierce and ugly, which snarled at Yan Luo while exhaling green Strange smoke. That was all.
With no findings, Yan Luo exited Ling Yi Zi's room, her mind racing with various thoughts—surprised, delighted, and puzzled. However, the next day, she quickly learned why Ling Yi Zi had left in such haste.
The tower's main door swung wide open as Yun Jiuzi strode out with great enthusiasm. He looked up to the sky and laughed heartily, “Great! After a thousand years of sharpening my sword, I can finally show it! Disciples and grand-disciples, come greet your Yun Jiuzi Great-Granduncle!”
With a flourish of his arms, flames erupted from his body, shooting up into the clouds as faint thunder rumbled through the air. The white tower shimmered under the blaze, its surface rippling and turning a fiery red. This was still due to the tower's Restrictions; without them, Yun Jiuzi's display would have reduced the tower to ashes instantly.
This was a new Divination Technique that Yun Jiuzi had recently comprehended after reaching the late stage of Harmonization. It was akin to how Li Hong had refined the Void Flame Armor upon entering the Nascent Soul Stage. In Yun Jiuzi's case, he had refined what he called "Qianyang Thunderfire."
Qianyang Thunderfire is second only to Samadhi True Fire and is one of the most powerful thunderfires in existence. It is said that once mastered, it can control thunder and ignite fire, incinerating all things in heaven and earth—akin to a minor Tribulation in power. Currently, Yun Jiuzi's Qianyang Thunderfire was only at a small success level, yet he was still quite proud of it and couldn't help but show off as soon as he emerged.
Yan Luo watched in awe; she understood just how impressive this technique was. As her mind raced, she suddenly realized something. According to Li Hong, Yun Jiuzi was already the most powerful figure in Nine Li Sect. Given this display upon his emergence from seclusion, he likely wasn't far from ascension. It seemed that Ling Yi Zi had sensed his imminent exit and fled to avoid being discovered.
After some contemplation, Yan Luo made up her mind: if even Ling Yi Zi feared Yun Jiuzi, then she must flatter him! Immediately adopting an endearing demeanor that would please any human being who loves flowers blooming beautifully, she rushed forward first and respectfully bowed to Yun Jiuzi. “Junior Yan Luo from Qixia Palace pays respects to Great-Granduncle Yun Jiuzi! Congratulations on your emergence!”
Yun Jiuzi frowned slightly; he never expected that the first person to welcome him would be an unfamiliar young girl.
Upon entering Temple City, the first thing he did was hurriedly enter seclusion, without even having the chance to properly catch up with Li Hong. Now, he missed Li Hong greatly and couldn't help but look around in search of him.
Of course, he had no idea that Li Hong was currently in a secret chamber at the Ancient Celestial Field Temple, also in seclusion. After emerging from his own retreat, he had directly teleported to Temple City, just missing Li Hong.
Yan Luo, however, was well aware that Li Hong was in seclusion. His mind immediately began to plot; with Li Hong in retreat, it presented a perfect opportunity for him. He had to find a way to charm this Great-Granduncle!
Yan Luo grinned and said, "Great-Granduncle, Chu Hongzi is in seclusion! But don’t worry, I know everything that has happened during these years while you were away and in seclusion. I can tell you all about it! Also, our Exiled Nine Li Sect has a batch of reinforcements that you definitely wouldn’t expect. Would you like to see them? However," Yan Luo stretched out his hand and stuck out his tongue, "if you want to know, bring me a meeting gift!"
Yun Jiuzi was taken aback for a moment before bursting into hearty laughter.
Previously, when Yan Luo had been polite to him, he honestly didn’t like that serious demeanor; but at this moment, Yan Luo’s request for a meeting gift showed no fear of his old monster of a Great-Granduncle's playful side, which suited Yun Jiuzi's temperament perfectly.
Yun Jiuzi laughed heartily and said, "Alright! There will definitely be a meeting gift. However, you must accompany Great-Granduncle on a tour; I want to take a good look at our Exiled Nine Li Sect's Temple City!"
Yan Luo was overjoyed and said, "Great! Let’s go explore right now!"
Moments later, Yue Changzi, Ling Yizi, Chu Hai, Wuwei, and others rushed over in shock. They saw Yan Luo and Yun Jiuzi—one old and one young—chatting and laughing like old friends. Then they took off with the Azure Phoenix across the sea, completely ignoring the genuine Nine Li Sect Disciples present.
