The entrance to the Yin Spirit Eye had been buried under a massive pile of rubble.
Li Hong stopped Ling Yi Zi, who was eager to dig through the stones, and smilingly handed him a bottle of Fire Origin Pill. "You've expended quite a bit of spiritual energy just now. Sit down and recover for a bit; I'll take care of the rest."
Ling Yi Zi nodded, took the jade bottle, and moved to the side.
Li Hong pretended to ponder thoughtfully while standing in front of the stone pile, actually summoning the Earth Soul Avatar.
The avatar stood dazed in the dark depths of the Passageway, having not received further instructions. Upon sensing its master’s call, it immediately sprang into action. Lingyi burst forth from its forehead and shot out of the Passageway with a sword strike.
A loud rumble echoed as Iridescence erupted, piercing through the rubble and flying directly in front of Li Hong. A tunnel large enough for a person to pass through appeared in the pile of stones.
Li Hong waved his hand casually, and Lingyi returned through the Passageway, disappearing into the darkness.
Meanwhile, the Earth Soul Avatar received its next instruction, turned around, and leaped into the dark depths of the Passageway.
Li Hong turned back and smiled at Ling Yi Zi. "How are you feeling? Have you recovered enough? Can we go now?"
Ling Yi Zi stood up and replied, "About seventy percent. But it’s already manageable." He then asked with concern, "What about you? Do you need to meditate for a while?"
Li Hong had already swallowed a Supreme Celestial Stone, with a vast amount of Five Elements Spiritual Energy circulating through his meridians and returning to his Upper Dantian space. In that space, Eight Infants sat in a circle, practicing the sixth chapter of the Six Spirit Salty Ritual's mental method, converting the gathered Five Elements Spiritual Energy into their own Awareness. The golden hue on their bodies was gradually deepening, indicating that their power was recovering to its peak.
Li Hong casually scanned internally and confirmed his recovery. He pointed at the cave entrance and said, "I'm fine; let's go in."
The entrance was just wide enough for one person to pass through. It was clearly a Passageway carved out of rock layers—circular and incredibly smooth, as if it had been drilled through by some magical artifact. There were no light sources within the Passageway; thick black mist formed from Ethereal Energy floated around, making it feel like walking through ink. Thus, Little Fei volunteered to fly ahead, emitting a hazy golden light to illuminate the path for both of them.
The Passageway sloped downward at an angle, growing deeper as they walked. Suddenly, a faint light appeared ahead. Li Hong's heart stirred; he quickened his pace and rushed toward the cave entrance ahead of Little Fei.
The clone was standing at the entrance of the Passageway when Li Hong quickly rushed towards him. The clone turned around to meet him, and in the blink of an eye, it squeezed into Li Hong's body and disappeared. Li Hong looked inward and saw that in addition to the golden Eight Infants in his Upper Dantian, there was another identical figure sitting cross-legged. Above this figure, Yue Que and Lingyi were hovering.
Li Hong nodded in satisfaction, withdrawing his mind from the Upper Dantian space. Behind him, Ling Yi Zi and Little Fei had already flown up to him, thinking that Li Hong had made some discovery.
Li Hong concealed his excitement and pointed ahead, saying, "Look at this place; it's quite strange. We need to be careful."
This was a vast, dark underground space that seemed deeply sunken. At first glance, it resembled the Fengdu Hidden Palace, but upon closer inspection, the differences became apparent.
The Fengdu Hidden Palace is buried underground like the legendary Underworld, complete with mountains and rivers, and even a massive abyssal gorge that seems bottomless. The Soul Devourer hides at the bottom of this gorge, gathering countless souls for the Yandao Demon Lord to cultivate. However, this place felt more like a void.
Why was it called a void? Because it appeared to be suspended in nothingness—neither truly underground nor in Western Bull Hezhou—endlessly vast with a thick layer of gray mist floating everywhere. The gray mist was not still; it flowed like water, illuminated by dim light from an unknown source that lit up its surface. One could see the mist slowly changing, sometimes thin and sometimes thick, swirling and settling. As far as the eye could see, there was still only gray mist; beyond that lay an impenetrable darkness. It could be said that apart from the gray mist, this space contained nothing.
The exit of the Passageway was located about ten yards above the gray mist. Li Hong cautiously flew out of the cave entrance and turned back to look inside. What he saw astonished him even more.
There was nothing above or below or around the cave entrance! There were no stone walls; only a circular outline of a hole appeared out of thin air above the layer of gray mist. He could clearly see Ling Yi Zi and Little Fei standing within the circular outline of the Passageway, with the backdrop still being the swirling gray mist. This meant that the entrance to this Passageway had materialized above the layer of gray mist!
Li Hong was now uncertain about what would happen if both his companions and their spirit beast left the cave entrance. He flew back inside to explain the situation to Ling Yi Zi.
Ling Yi Zi quickly replied, "What's so difficult about that? Didn't you notice that the Ethereal Energy fluctuations are coming from below? I bet beneath this gray mist lies the Ancient God Temple!"
Li Hong focused his mind and extended his Divine Consciousness, but there were similar Restrictions here as those found in Star Sect's Wandering Path of the Stars that blocked Divine Consciousness. Li Hong felt as if his extended "tentacles" of Divine Consciousness were sinking into a quagmire; everything he reached out for was shrouded in gray fog, making it impossible to probe further. Nevertheless, Ling Yi Zi insisted on her viewpoint, so Li Hong readily agreed for them and their spirit beast to descend into the gray mist below.
As their bodies sank into the thick fog, Li Hong remained cautious and gently pressed his palm against the cave wall at the entrance, leaving a mark. The palm print carried Li Hong's unique Awareness fluctuations; with this mark, even if they got lost, he would have a way to find his way back.
The gray mist was extremely dense; visibility was poor. Little Fei clung tightly to Li Hong's hair while standing on top of his head, and Li Hong firmly held onto Ling Yi Zi's hand.
It is indeed strange for two big men to hold each other's hands tightly, but this is the best way to avoid getting lost in the gray mist.
Ling Yi Zi's hand was cool, his skin sticky, and his palm was sweating. Li Hong could feel Ling Yi Zi's pulse through his skin; his heartbeat was very slow... Suddenly, Li Hong was slightly taken aback; Ling Yi Zi's pulse felt strange! He hurriedly transmitted a message: "Master Uncle, are you feeling unwell?"
A muffled voice responded in his ear, "No, I'm fine."
"Oh." Li Hong wanted to check his pulse, but since Ling Yi Zi said he was fine, it would be inappropriate to do so without permission. He had no choice but to suppress his curiosity and shift his thoughts to their current situation.
The gray mist was boundless and had been descending for a while now, yet there were still no signs of an end. Li Hong admired Ling Yi Zi; even in this state, he could detect the abnormal fluctuations of Ethereal Energy below. Speaking of which, his Divine Consciousness was at least ten times stronger than Ling Yi Zi's, yet he hadn’t noticed anything.
"Master Uncle has indeed cultivated longer and has purer skills!" Li Hong sighed.
Ling Yi Zi turned his head. "What did you say?"
The gray mist could also muffle sound; even though they were close, Ling Yi Zi's voice still sounded as if it came from thousands of miles away—very faint and muffled.
Li Hong laughed loudly, "I said Master Uncle has pure skills!"
Ling Yi Zi finally heard clearly but immediately became serious and gestured for silence with a finger to his lips.
Li Hong was slightly taken aback and suddenly felt a strong sense of alertness. He looked up.
Not far in front of them, a massive black elongated object whipped past right under their eyes and suddenly descended out of sight.
Li Hong's scalp tingled with shock: "What we killed ahead was just the Feathered Serpent Ancestor; there are still many more Feathered Serpent Ancestors here!"
Ling Yi Zi nodded and communicated, "We don't know how many Feathered Serpents and Ants Can Kill Elephants are below; it's quite concerning. We should avoid disturbing them."
"Agreed."
The two of them restrained their presence, even Li Hong's Little Fei transformed back into a regular cat form. The trio quietly descended into the gray mist, and soon the mist began to thin out, revealing large structures beneath them.
Li Hong was momentarily taken aback. Everywhere his gaze fell was filled with giant pyramids, all identical to the one built by the Indigenous People on the ground. Each pyramid had four sides and an equilateral triangular shape, decreasing in size with each layer until it reached the top, which featured a grand temple with massive columns and a flat square roof. Due to their immense height and sheer number stretching to the horizon, the Pyramid Forest appeared quite magnificent and breathtaking.
Unfortunately, the vast stone slabs clearing between the pyramids were filled with Feathered Serpents of various sizes, which somewhat marred the view. The smaller Feathered Serpents were only three to four feet long and numerous; from above, they looked like large clusters of black worms writhing together, which was quite disgusting. The larger ones were indeed enormous; while they did not compare to the Ancestor outside, they were still as tall as an entire pyramid. One even coiled around a pyramid, extending its long tail into the high gray mist above, resembling the creature seen earlier that had flicked its tail down.
Li Hong and Ling Yi Zi grew increasingly alarmed. Without hesitation, Li Hong summoned the Eight Formation Flag to conceal himself, Ling Yi Zi, and Little Fei within it, directing the little cow to slowly descend.
Although the Eight Formation Flag was invisible, it was clear that the Feathered Serpents were highly sensitive to external intrusions. All the Feathered Serpents became agitated, making strange hissing sounds as many began to viciously attack one another. The largest one coiled atop a pyramid, flicking its long tongue and scanning its surroundings with red eyes.
Li Hong hesitated; there was no need to concern themselves with the Feathered Serpents now. However, with so many pyramids around, who knew where the Ancient God had hidden treasures? If they searched one by one, they might not find anything even after a hundred years.
Ling Yi Zi suggested, "How about we split up? We can take Spirit Summoning Talismans with us; whoever finds something first can call the other."
Li Hong felt this wasn't a good idea and shook his head. "It's best not to separate in such a Strange place; it's too dangerous."
Ling Yi Zi insisted, "Aside from the Feathered Serpents, there aren't any other dangers here for now. Time is pressing; let's do it this way."
Reluctantly, Li Hong agreed. They marked their respective search directions and placed a Spirit Summoning Talisman on each of themselves.
The Spirit Summoning Talisman was a rather special Mid-Level Spirit Talisman; once placed on a person, both individuals would know each other's exact location regardless of how far apart they were. In the Cultivation World, this was a commonly used special-purpose Spirit Talisman.
Li Hong wanted to give Little Fei to Ling Yi Zi, but Ling Yi Zi refused and only asked Li Hong for another Invisibility Talisman.
Li Hong was a bit puzzled: "Master Uncle, have you run out of Spirit Talismans?"
"Yes, after we parted ways those years ago, I’ve used up all the Spirit Talismans I had while hiding."
Li Hong nodded: "I'll make you a Spell Pen when we get back, Master Uncle. You can draw a few more for yourself to keep handy."
"We'll talk about that later," Ling Yi Zi replied calmly.
The two quickly went their separate ways, with the invisible Ling Yi Zi heading east, while Li Hong activated the Eight Formation Flag and headed west.
After some thought, Li Hong couldn't shake off his concern for Ling Yi Zi going alone. He ordered the Earth Soul Avatar to quietly follow him without revealing its presence, ready to intervene if Ling Yi Zi got into trouble.
The Earth Soul Avatar was a pure energy entity. After applying an Invisibility Talisman, it emerged from the Eight Formation Flag. In an instant, even Li Hong lost track of its whereabouts, so Ling Yi Zi would definitely not notice it.
A wisp of light smoke moved ahead, followed by another wisp of light smoke. The two moved swiftly across the gray pyramid ground like ghosts.
Li Hong's Divine Consciousness followed Ling Yi Zi for a short while before directing the Eight Formation Flag to retreat westward.
