The Demon Sect surged forth, a wave after wave of figures flocking through the Heaven and Earth Platform into the Nine Li Sect. Dark clouds of demons scattered like swarming wasps, rushing towards the Nine Li Six Meridians, Jiuya Peak, Elder Peak, Scripture Repository, Artifact Hall... anywhere they could reach.
One magical artifact after another flashed brightly as they rose from various peaks to meet the enemy. The sounds of battle echoed thunderously, dazzling flashes of light erupted here and there, and the violent collisions of magical artifacts created a cacophony like thunder, with blood and severed limbs flying everywhere.
Countless figures vanished silently upon contact.
A rain of blood began to fall from the sky, and screams filled the air; the Nine Li Sect had turned into a hellish battlefield.
Outside Nine Separation Peak and Chengxian Pavilion, thousands of Demon Sect Monsters led by the Purgatory Ten Kings were fiercely attacking the Restrictions, lightning-like strikes raining down upon them. The blue water-ball-shaped Restrictions shook violently, with Azure Light shining brightly to withstand the Demon’s relentless assaults.
Once again, a strong red light flashed across the Heaven and Earth Platform. This time, instead of black-clad demons appearing, sixty elderly men dressed in dark brocade robes adorned with gold and silver dragon patterns emerged. Though their faces differed, they shared a common trait: all were very old with white beards and hair.
The Demon Sect Monsters turned back in shock at the sight of them. "Azure Guardians!"
Legend had it that beside the Yandao Demon Lord stood such a group of Azure Guardians, each possessing extraordinary cultivation, at least at the Late Stage of Nascent Soul. They were personal bodyguards to the Demon Lord and rarely made an appearance. Their presence signified one thing: the Demon Lord was coming, and everyone here would die.
The Azure Guardians lightly descended from the Heaven and Earth Platform, forming a circle and bowing deeply.
Moments later, another intense red light flashed across the Heaven and Earth Platform. This time only five figures appeared: three men, one woman, and a swirling mass of black mist.
The Azure Guardians immediately knelt down. "We pay our respects to the Demon Lord!"
"We pay our respects to the Demon Lord!" A thunderous cheer echoed from within Nine Li Cave Heaven.
To the left of Yandao Demon Lord stood a towering man nearly three times the height of an average person, clad in mysterious iron armor that obscured his features while emanating a chilling metallic aura. To his right was Li Xiaolou in silver gauze robes, holding a Moonlight Flute with a beautiful face twisted into a venomous smile like that of a snake. Beside her was Xiao Rushi. The remaining figure was an exquisitely handsome young man whose beauty was so delicate it could easily be mistaken for that of a woman; he was none other than Ruyi Hall Master, known for his fondness for Rabbit Spirits.
Inside the Main Hall, Ling Xuzi gazed at the five descending slowly from the Heaven and Earth Platform with a heavy sigh. He turned around and dragged his heavy steps to kneel at the base of the hall.
"I am an unworthy disciple! How could there be an insider traitor allowing Demon Sect Monsters to infiltrate Nine Li Sect! Ancestor above, please save us disciples; otherwise, our Nine Li Sect will surely face extermination!"
Ling Xuzi could not comprehend how this happened. If only he had more time; if only Li Hong returned from Southern Wilderness with treasures from the divine temple and life-saving spiritual herbs and elixirs—given time, Nine Li Sect would undoubtedly become the foremost Immortal Sect.
Was it fate or misfortune? Just as success seemed within reach, betrayal by an insider allowed Demon Sect Monsters to invade!
"Ancestor!" Ling Xuzi's internal energy was in chaos, and his throat tasted both sweet and bloody as he couldn't help but spit out a mouthful of fresh blood.
In the midst of the spinning world, someone grabbed his arm. Ling Xuzi turned to see Yun Jiuzi.
Yun Jiuzi sneered, "Where is the Array Hall? Take me there quickly!" He commanded Ling Yi Zi beside him, "Gather everyone from the Chengxian Pavilion and bring them all to the Main Hall. You will lead them. If the Demon breaks through the Restrictions, you all must act!"
"Understood!" A flash of white light appeared as a clear pool of autumn water materialized in Ling Yi Zi's hand. Holding up the Ask the Way, Ling Yi Zi turned and dashed toward the Corner Gate.
Yun Jiuzi reached under Ling Xuzi's armpit, his face showing no signs of shock or panic, as if everything was just as usual. He said, "Let's go; we are heading to the Array Hall."
Ling Xuzi regained some strength. Nodding, he took Yun Jiuzi and flew up to the Chengxian Pavilion's Twenty-Eighth Floor.
In the secret chamber of The Abode of the Sect Leader on the Twenty-Eighth Floor, there was a small Teleportation Array that led directly to the Array Hall.
Before the Crimson Gate, the Dragon and Phoenix Stone Beast had already vanished. Ling Xuzi cast a seal, and the door opened wide, almost colliding with Spirit Stone.
Spirit Stone had been groping in the dark for a while now, standing here for what felt like an eternity; every moment felt like a year, and Spirit Stone was nearly driven mad with anxiety.
Upon seeing Yun Jiuzi, a faint smile appeared on Spirit Stone's haggard yellow face. In that moment, he began to resemble his former self as Elder Brother.
"Yun Jiuzi Great-Granduncle has arrived!"
Yun Jiuzi chuckled softly and said earnestly, "The more critical the moment, the more you need to stay steady."
"Thank you for your guidance, Great-Granduncle."
Yun Jiuzi and Ling Xuzi disappeared into the secret chamber at the end of the corridor. The door closed tightly again. Spirit Stone stayed put, sitting cross-legged in the darkness, straining to hear every sound he could.
Suddenly it went dark before brightening again; Yun Jiuzi found himself underground.
Before him stood a large door.
Yun Jiuzi listened carefully, his expression growing serious. He pushed Ling Xuzi behind him and said slowly, "You open the door. Be careful; there's something behind it."
Ling Xuzi understood and immediately moved aside after casting the seal.
The Azure Light of the stone door flashed, and the Restrictions activated, but the door did not open automatically as it had before. Something was blocking it from behind.
With a thought, Yun Jiuzi reached into the Cosmic Bag and took out a Fire Phoenix. After igniting it, he pointed it toward the gap in the door. The manifested Fire Phoenix elongated and transformed, slipping through the crack.
A bright flame erupted from behind the door, accompanied by a crackling sound. Something was burning, emitting a strange hissing noise like a venomous snake, before turning to flee, with the Fire Phoenix's flames chasing after it.
A beam of golden light flew from Yun Jiuzi's hand, and the door slowly pushed open.
Behind the door was a long Passageway, empty inside, with the light of the Fire Phoenix fading around a corner ahead.
"Chase! It’s heading for the Control Platform Room!" Ling Xuzi rushed out first.
"Wait, look." Yun Jiuzi pointed at something behind the door.
There was a strange fire mark on the back of the stone door, shaped like an unusually tall humanoid figure, towering as high as the thirty-foot stone door itself. No one could possibly be that tall.
"Demon!"
The two pursued deeper inside.
Ahead, the Passageway split into two paths; to the left led to the Formation Room of the Flame Separation Great Formation, while to the right led to the Control Platform Room.
As they turned right, they heard a creaking sound ahead, followed by the light of the Fire Phoenix rushing back. Yun Jiuzi raised his hand and pointed; the Fire Phoenix flapped its fiery True Fire wings and hovered above his head.
"It escaped into the Control Platform Room. You open the door," Yun Jiuzi said.
Ling Xuzi shook his head. "I can't open it. Great-Granduncle, to prevent outsiders from intruding, both the Formation Room and Control Platform Room are designed to be opened only from within. I can only cast a seal to let those inside know I’ve arrived."
"That’s strange; how does this Demon know our Nine Li Sect's secrets?"
"I don’t know how it knows, but I’m certain there’s a traitor within our Nine Li Sect!" Ling Xuzi said with a face full of anger.
"Who was originally inside?"
"Yue Zongzi, Master Uncle, is the junior brother of Yue Changzi. He cannot be the insider. Although I cannot enter, I can see the situation inside through certain setups in my secret chamber. At that time, I took a glance and saw that Yue Zongzi was missing from the Control Platform Room, and there was a strange Black Shadow instead. Moreover, Yue Zongzi's Fate Lantern had been extinguished."
Yun Jiuzi pondered, "Is it possible for us to break through the Restrictions and rush in?"
"Impossible! This place is deeply buried underground, surrounded by thick and numerous Restrictions set by our Ancestor. Great-Granduncle, even you cannot break them."
"Then let's hurry to the Array Hall and take a look." Yun Jiuzi turned and left.
The flames flickered away.
With a soft sound, the door to the Control Platform Room opened again, and a much smaller humanoid black mist slowly slipped out through the crack of the door.
It peeked around as if waiting for someone. Soon, it slid back into the Control Platform Room, and the door closed tightly once more.
Yun Jiuzi and Ling Xuzi flew to the entrance of the Formation Room. Ling Xuzi said, "If there is any change, the rule here is that once closed from the inside, the door must not be opened. I have observed the situation inside from above; everything seems normal. Now we can only try; I don't know if my master and the others are willing to open the door."
After saying this, Ling Xuzi performed a seal gesture, and Azure Light flashed directly into the depths of the massive stone door.
Ling Xuzi called out, "Master Ancestor, it's me Lingxu; please open the door!"
There was no response.
After a long while, a stern male voice echoed in their ears: "Lingxu! You actually brought outsiders here! As the sect leader, you have violated the Rules of the Sect. Do you not know that during extraordinary times, doors must not be opened, especially not for anyone else?"
"He is Yun Jiuzi, Great-Granduncle! Master, Yue Zongzi is dead; the Control Platform Room has fallen into the hands of a Demon. The Demon Sect Monster is coming in large numbers through the Heaven and Earth Platform; Master..."
Before he could finish speaking, Yueyangzi interrupted Ling Xuzi's anxious recounting: "Why aren't you rushing to kill enemies? What are you messing around with here? Do you really want to wait until the Nine Li Sect falls completely into Demon Sect hands?" Yueyangzi changed his tone: "Rest assured, everything here is fine; we still hold control over the Li Fire Formation. As long as we are here, no Demon Sect Monster can pass through it. And there are ways to break through Heaven and Earth Platform! Does Demon Sect think that by sending an insider to control Heaven and Earth Platform they can seize our entire Nine Li Cave Heaven? What a delusion! Lingxu, I now command you to trap that Demon in the Control Platform Room and destroy Heaven and Earth Platform!"
Ling Xuzi was taken aback and cast an inquiring glance at Yun Jiuzi.
Yun Jiuzi's expression flickered in the light of Fire Phoenix; after a moment, he slowly said: "Trapping that Demon is not difficult; we just need to seal the main door. The Control Platform Room is surrounded by Restrictions; even if that Demon can burrow underground, it cannot escape. However, Yueyangzi, you need to think carefully; destroying Heaven and Earth Platform is not hard, but we would become eternal sinners!"
"At least the Li Fire Formation is still in our hands. As long as we destroy the Heaven and Earth Platform, we can quickly call for help and let the Immortal Sect come in and catch them all!"
A reminder from Yun Jiuzi made Ling Xuzi break into a cold sweat. In the chaos, he had completely forgotten to seek help from the entire Immortal Sect and Du Yizi of the Beast Cultivation!
Yun Jiuzi immediately understood and pushed Ling Xuzi hard. "Hurry up and take care of your business!"
Watching Ling Xuzi swiftly dart away, Yun Jiuzi did not leave but whispered, "Open the door. You may have deceived Ling Xuzi, but you can't fool me. Yueyangzi, your voice lacks strength; even you have been poisoned. If I don't go in to help you, I'm afraid you won't be able to hold the Li Fire Formation! I still have Antidote Pills in my Cosmic Bag!"
A long silence followed. The people inside seemed unwilling to open the door.
However, Yun Jiuzi was confident. He continuously pulled out Fire Phoenixes from his Cosmic Bag, igniting one after another. Seventeen or eighteen Fire Phoenixes, along with the one on Yun Jiuzi's head, turned and charged toward the Control Platform Room. The entrance to the Control Platform Room was completely blocked by the blazing True Fire Phoenixes.
The Demon was trapped inside and could not escape.
After doing all this, he finally heard Yueyangzi's tired voice, no longer concealing his exhaustion: "You can come in now."
The door opened a crack, and Yun Jiuzi slipped inside.
