Chu Xi's eyes sparkled as she pointed at the layers of fortifications, saying, "Look, each layer is perfectly scaled down compared to the one below, with identical proportions. Even the entrance hall is the same, and the curvature at the corners is exactly alike. Those rooms over there, although we haven't entered them, I can confidently say they must be just like the ones on the next level. If it were merely constructed, it would be impossible to achieve such consistency and perfection."
She turned to Li Hong: "You mentioned earlier that the Celestial Mansion Map in the Ancient Celestial Field seemed like it was pre-built and then enlarged when placed there. I think this place is similar."
Li Hong looked at Chu Xi with admiration; her memory was truly remarkable, recalling something he had said a long time ago so clearly.
"Exactly. The Ancient God must have a way to pre-construct houses and palaces that can be carried around and then enlarged when needed on the Clearing. Upon reflection, this isn't surprising; many ancient texts in Middle-Earth contain similar accounts."
"Does that mean this temple, Great City, is actually a magical artifact? A portable treasure house or even a Great City?" Chuxiong's eyes lit up at the thought of treasures.
Li Hong chuckled: "If there is a manual for creating portable magical houses here, that would be fantastic! I definitely want to learn how to do it!"
"Let's go! Let's find some treasures!" Chuxiong took the lead and swiftly soared upward.
That Fake Tree... Li Hong kept thinking about the tree that could automatically generate Fire Essence. If that Fake Tree was also such a magical artifact, he had to find a way to take it back with him.
Taking away a temple like Great City was impossible, but perhaps he could devise a plan to take a tree. Li Hong couldn't help but share Chuxiong's excitement, his eyes sparkling with anticipation.
In an instant, they reached the highest level.
Exiting the final entrance hall, they were greeted by an expansive view. The top of the island was actually a vast platform covered in pristine white stones, with a sharp White Tower soaring straight into the sky at its center, and no other buildings in sight.
Turning around to look back, they faced the winding silver beach that resembled a thin silver thread. Behind it was an unusual expanse of gray chaos. From other angles, they could see an endless expanse of azure ocean. The water was completely still and calm, indicating that it had been tampered with. In other words, this ocean in their space was likely fake.
The presence of Old Ghost vanished behind the tower door. The main entrance of the tower was slightly ajar, with eerie blue light flickering inside.
Li Hong approached the door and extended his Divine Consciousness inward.
From outside, the tower appeared very tall; however, inside it extended straight up to the top, revealing a high pointed stone structure. Aside from the peak and walls, there was nothing else inside.
Wait, there was one more thing.
At a height of one foot above the ground in the center of the lower level, something was suspended. This object was not unfamiliar; it was the "Star Sect Water Saint" artifact that had originally transported them here, the pure and flawless blue Ice Flower.
The Ice Flower emitted a brilliant blue light, resembling a combination of burning ice and fire.
And there was the Teleportation Array!
When Li Hong counted to three, the three of them simultaneously placed their hands on the Water Saint Ice Flower.
The world spun, and the scene before them changed once again. Li Hong found himself back in a deep underground space.
It resembled an Underground Palace. They were in a perfectly round hall, with that eerie blue Ice Flower still suspended one foot above the ground. The walls of the hall were made of thick Jadeite, emanating a hazy Azure Light. The ceiling was not high; one could reach up and touch it by jumping, creating a feeling of oppression.
Upon closer inspection, there were nine Passageways surrounding the circular hall, extending outward like spokes of a wheel. Visually, each Passageway appeared extremely deep, and standing at their entrances made it impossible to discern where they led.
The three of them cautiously examined their surroundings when Li Hong's gaze suddenly fell upon one of the passageways. There was a small black circular object on the ground there.
Picking it up, Li Hong recognized it as a scale from the Treasure Armor where Old Ghost had hidden.
Could it be that Old Ghost came this way?
He extended his Divine Consciousness into that passageway but was abruptly rebounded after advancing three zhang.
This place can block Divine Consciousness.
Chu Xi walked over to pick up the scale and pondered aloud, "That person hinted that we should take this path... but he deceived you before and almost took your life. Can we trust him?"
Li Hong thought for a moment and resolutely pointed to that passageway: "Let's go this way. I believe he won't deceive us."
"Alright! Then we'll take this path!" Chuxiong stepped forward into the passageway without hesitation.
The passage was not wide, with a diameter of about ten feet, and it was not high either. Just like the main hall in front, one could easily touch the ceiling by jumping. The entire structure was made of the same Jadeite material, crystal clear and seemingly transparent, yet nothing could be seen beyond the walls. At regular intervals, it felt as if some formation had been set up; Divine Consciousness could only extend within a certain distance, and if one exceeded that distance, it would be rebounded by some invisible force.
If this truly was a formation, then it was quite remarkable.
As they walked, the three of them felt a strange sensation; the passage seemed to be turning. However, when they looked back, they saw that it was clearly a straight path, and they could still see the faint blue glow of the Water Saint Ice Flower in the outer hall.
"Could it be another maze from the Star Sect?" Chuxiong began to feel anxious.
Li Hong sensed something was off. Although the three were moving at a considerable speed, they had yet to reach the end of this long Jadeite passage. In fact, looking back, they noticed that the square exit leading back to the hall appeared to be getting smaller, as if they were moving forward but there was no reason for it to take this long without any progress.
"What should we do?" Chu Xi stopped.
Li Hong thought for a moment: "Let's keep going. We'll count as we walk; if we haven't seen any changes by the time we reach one hundred, we'll turn back."
The three moved forward side by side. Li Hong counted, and after reaching one hundred, aside from noticing that the entrance they had come from appeared even smaller, the passage continued to stretch ahead of them as if it would never end.
At this point, Li Hong had to admit he had been fooled. It felt strange; since Old Ghost had already arrived here and was supposedly returning to his so-called "hometown," why would he play tricks?
Not long after turning back, the three discovered that the exit was within reach. With a leap, they jumped into the hall.
The time taken to arrive and depart did not match at all. What was going on?
Li Hong's gaze swept across and he noticed that on the ground at the opposite entrance lay another small circular black scale. Picking it up and comparing it to the previous one revealed it was identical.
"What is going on!" Anger surged within him as Li Hong shouted: "Old Ghost, come out! We tried to help you, yet you dare to play tricks on us!"
His voice seemed to be swallowed up and could not carry beyond the hall. Since Old Ghost could not hear him, Li Hong had no choice but to stop.
Chu Xi suggested: "Let's trust him one more time and take that path over there."
"Are you sure?" Chuxiong asked, feeling frustrated and confused.
Chu Xi gently rested her delicate fingers on her chin, tilting her head slightly, a posture that indicated she was deep in thought. She slowly said, "Actually, the time we entered is not far apart from when he did. Have you considered that maybe he was watching us when we came in? I dare say his intention is to buy time. As for why, perhaps we will find out once we enter this passage."
The three of them walked towards the passage that Old Ghost had pointed out for the second time.
Before stepping into the passage, Li Hong inadvertently turned back and noticed that the thickest and longest prong of the blue Ice Flower in the center of the hall was pointing towards this passage. This phenomenon stirred something in Li Hong's heart.
Indeed, this passage was the right one.
Not long after entering, the passage began to turn, and soon they encountered three forks. On the ground at the forks, there was a shallow arrow marking crudely pointing towards the leftmost passage.
Chu Xi looked at the sign, pondered for a moment, and then smiled, saying, "We simply won't trust him! This time we will take the rightmost path."
"Alright! Old Ghost won't trick us again!"
The three of them stepped into the rightmost passage, and shortly after, they came upon an Azure Jade Gate.
The Azure Jade Gate was not tightly closed; strange buzzing sounds emanated from within, and flashes of light darted like lightning through the cracks of the door, flickering erratically. They had no idea what Old Ghost was doing inside.
Li Hong dashed to the door and was about to push it open when suddenly he froze, an extremely strange feeling surged in his heart.
There were powerful energy fluctuations inside, strong enough to make Li Hong's heart race with fear. But it wasn't just fear; that energy was inexplicably alluring, causing his blood to boil with an urge to rush in recklessly…
Li Hong kicked open the large door.
A blinding flash of light swept across his vision, so bright that he instinctively raised his hand to shield his face. When the brightness faded, he lowered his hand to reveal a massive strange formation diagram before him.
The room was empty except for a strange enormous formation diagram carved into the jadeite floor at its center. Li Hong recognized what was used to set up this diagram—it was none other than the accompanying Black Stone of the Supreme Celestial Stone. The entire formation diagram consisted of strange wheel-like radiating lines and numerous deeply embedded Black Stones on the floor. At points where spiritual energy waves intersected were dazzling pieces of Iridescence Supreme Celestial Stone. Most of these Supreme Celestial Stones had been consumed, leaving only a small fragment remaining at the energy wave points of the diagram.
Old Ghost just teleported away!
Looking at the formation, Li Hong suddenly felt an urge to stand in the center of it. He immediately followed through, gently walking to the central position and directing his gaze toward the indentation in front of his feet.
There was a fist-sized depression here, still faintly emitting green smoke. It was clear that a Supreme Celestial Stone had been here moments ago, but it was now consumed.
Suddenly, a thought flashed through his mind: if he placed a Supreme Celestial Stone into this depression, he could teleport immediately to that place...
With a glimmer of Iridescence, Li Hong found a Supreme Celestial Stone in his hand. Staring at the indentation before him, he felt a frenzied urge; the place where Old Ghost had teleported to was extremely important to him, and he had to go see it...
