"What? You're going to face the Strange Bat alone? No way!" Chu Xi shouted.
The red flames flickered on his face, and Chu Huai's expression changed rapidly. Hearing Li Hong still arguing with Chu Xi, he struggled internally for a long time before finally hesitantly saying, "I'll join you outside to deal with the Strange Bat."
Li Hong firmly refused. It wasn't that he wanted to show off; he already had a plan and didn't want Chu Huai and the others to know too much about some secrets.
Outside, the sound of flapping wings began to echo. Li Hong grew anxious and shouted, "Be quiet! It's decided! If needed, I'll call for you!"
With that, he strode through the Fire Wall and stepped outside.

The Starfire Shield was crafted as a mimic of the Nine Li Sect's treasured Star Shield, which was just a step away from being a Celestial Artifact and extremely precious. The Starfire Shield was merely a High-Quality Magical Artifact, making it less convenient than the Star Shield. Most importantly, it could only protect one or two people; if there were too many, they couldn't fit inside. Now that Li Hong had taken it out for his own protection, it was just right.
As soon as the Starfire Shield was activated, a long black ribbon flew in from the horizon, with the vanguard arriving at the forefront. The sound of flapping wings was incessant.
Several larger bats appeared ahead, almost the size of small tables, all bald-headed with eyes that flickered like those of mice—almost as if they had become sentient. They whispered among themselves and immediately flew to hang upside down on a nearby strange tree, their gazes fixed intently on Li Hong. The smaller bats began to assault Li Hong's Starfire Shield while some formed a long ribbon to attack the Fire Wall behind him.
There were also larger bats leading suicidal attacks! Li Hong found this quite amusing and casually watched the spectacle with his hands behind his back.
The sound of rapid-fire impacts echoed like heavy rain as charred bat corpses began to pile up outside the Starfire Shield. The same scene unfolded at the entrance behind him.
The Starfire Shield and Fire Wall were indeed holding up well. However… Li Hong frowned at the increasingly high pile of stinking bat corpses. At this rate, he might get buried under them. It was simply too disgusting.
He smiled slightly, focused his mind, and fixed his gaze on those Vanguard Generals in the tree. He formed a hand seal and began to chant softly: "Heaven and Earth, All Things Have Spirits; Yin and Yang grant me form; Spirit wander thousands of miles; summon my spiritual essence; nearby spirit beasts appear swiftly! Hurry!"
With a soft hum, an invisible aura rapidly surged outward from Li Hong's center. Several Vanguard Generals were immediately ensnared by Li Hong's Divine Consciousness, causing them to panic. They tried to escape but found it impossible! Their heads grew heavy and uncontrollable as they fell to the ground with flapping wings, making strange cries as they crawled step by step toward Li Hong.
The Bat Swarm fell into chaos without their vanguard leader; some began to fly back while most flitted around aimlessly like headless flies. The bat formation instantly collapsed.
It really worked! Li Hong felt relieved; perhaps Beast Taming Technique wouldn't be effective against ordinary beasts, but it would definitely work on spirit beasts that had become sentient! This was a secret move he had planned long ago. He had conceived this idea when he saw those two Bat Monsters using military tactics earlier that morning.
The effect took hold, and Li Hong calmly retrieved the Starfire Shield, standing on the ground as Lingyi circled around him, providing protection. His hands swiftly reached into the Cosmic Bag. He quickly pulled out one White Jade Box after another, delivering various celestial herbs to the trembling little creatures at his feet. Divine Consciousness enveloped them as he carefully observed their reactions.
The flow of celestial herbs was presented right in front of the little creatures' noses. Li Hong moved rapidly, his hands almost dancing like a thousand-armed Avalokiteshvara, continuously sending with his left hand and receiving with his right. The others behind him, including Chu Huai, could not see clearly through the Fire Wall and were puzzled—why wasn’t Li Hong attacking? What was he doing?
Only Chu Xi vaguely understood, a hint of a calm smile gracing her red lips.
Meanwhile, Li Hong outside was growing increasingly frustrated. Seeing that he had tested enough celestial herbs, these little creatures showed no reaction to any of them except for their instinctive fear.
With only a few herbs left, the sky suddenly darkened. A thick haze loomed overhead, sending a chilling and eerie sensation piercing into Li Hong's heart. He did not look up but hurriedly presented the last few herbs to the little creatures, anxiously cursing, "You little beasts! Tell me! What kind is it?!"
As his mind split, the little creatures finally gained their freedom and instantly soared into the air. Li Hong hastily threw away the herbs in his hands, summoned Lingyi to protect his head, and looked up.
Even though he was mentally prepared, he still shuddered in shock.
It was enormous! Two Bat Elders, each as large as a small hill, were circling above him. Their mouths were smeared with blood, and on their bald heads were two eerie eyes that opened and closed erratically, gradually glowing with a sinister red light.
The red light was tangible and sharp, piercing towards Li Hong like fine needles.
What on earth!
Li Hong was alarmed and urgently called for Lingyi. A series of clanging sounds echoed as waves of bone-chilling cold surged into Li Hong's Upper Dantian. His entire spiritual power condensed; he had to quickly circulate his Awareness to feel somewhat better.
What is this thing? Red light cold needles? Li Hong's feet jumped from the cold; it felt as if his flesh were freezing. His thoughts raced as the Awareness vortex began to spin rapidly, a faint golden Awareness surged from his Upper Dantian throughout his body’s meridians.
The "red light cold needles" showed no signs of stopping. The Bat Elder blinked its four strange eyes repeatedly as streams of solid red light cold needles came pouring down like a torrential rain towards Li Hong. Lingyi gradually struggled to withstand them.
Lingyi was a treasure cultivated alongside Li Hong's life force; although it could block these red light cold needles, the bone-chilling cold it emitted was something Li Hong had to endure himself. Even with all his effort circulating Awareness, he could not hold it back; a fine layer of icy sand began to form on his skin. After a while, each breath he exhaled turned into ice particles that fell onto the nearly frozen Fire Rat Robe in front of him.
Lingyi's movements became increasingly sluggish; Li Hong's frozen mind nearly turned numb as he finally understood why so many from Emei could not defeat these two Bat Elders.
He wanted to use the Beast Taming Technique but realized that he had already been preempted by these two old monsters; there was no way to act now, and panic set in.
"Ha ha! Kid, I'm here!" The voice of Heavenly Torch suddenly echoed in his mind.
"You are of no use! I'm about to freeze to death!" Li Hong retorted inwardly, shivering as he fished out the Little Celestial Pole Needle that Yue Changzi had given him from the Cosmic Bag, contemplating using it to counter the threat.
Before he could act, he heard the Heavenly Torch call out, "I'll help you!"
Suddenly, with a loud rumble, flames erupted around him. The fire surged over three meters high, instantly dispelling the bone-chilling cold that had enveloped him. He felt warmth radiating from his Upper Dantian. Looking inward, he saw the small Heavenly Torch engulfed in flames, dancing around the transparent, slightly green Fire Separation Pearl, shouting, "Warm enough? If not, I'll add a little more heat, hee hee ha ha!"
Li Hong laughed heartily; this move from the Heavenly Torch was perfectly timed. Standing amidst the warm flames, he looked up to see the two Bat Elders clearly stunned. They stared at Li Hong, who was ablaze with fire. The red glow in their copper bell-like eyes faded, and their eerie blood-red eyes flickered as if they were communicating with each other.
If not now, then when? Li Hong smirked coldly and launched the Little Celestial Pole Needle upwards at high speed, striking one of those four strange glowing eyes.
Boom—an array of bizarre sounds filled his ears as if someone was shouting directly into them. Yet the shouts were inaudible; it was an invisible sound attack.
Li Hong leaped several meters high, nearly colliding with the belly of a Bat Elder. He shook his head violently, blood streaming from his seven orifices, yet he couldn't hear anything. Only the Divine Consciousness of the Heavenly Torch remained loud and clear as it shouted, "Quick! Close your Six Senses! Damn it, these two Bat Monsters are really powerful!"
Li Hong forced a smile despite his predicament: "Why didn't you say so earlier..." but he couldn't even hear his own voice.
The dark clouds above had dispersed, revealing starlight. In the distance, two massive shadows swiftly retreated—the Bat Elders were fleeing in panic, leaving behind a trail of black blood.
