The shimmering Silver Ball looked at Li Hong, who clearly saw the glimmer of intelligence in its eyes. In a moment, it returned to its usual state, letting out a couple of soft calls towards Li Hong before turning and running ahead.
It should not be called running, but rather "rolling." Its round, silver-scaled body moved forward almost like a rolling ball. Many times, it indeed preferred to "roll."
Ahead was a downhill passage, and Silver Ball simply tucked in its head and limbs, rolling down the slope with a clattering sound that quickly faded away.
Li Hong found it quite amusing; any initial tension he felt had completely vanished. With Silver Ball, he felt a sense of finding a kindred spirit—after all, it was the only one in the entire Nine Li Sect that could see his Colorful Light Tentacles.
He quickened his pace to catch up.
At the bottom of the slope, two passages appeared on the left and right, each turning parallel to one another. The clattering sound of Silver Ball shaking its scales came from the left passage. Li Hong turned left.
Gradually, he became disoriented. Countless underground passages crisscrossed like a spider's web; it was like a maze down here.
Numerous forks and branches appeared. Sometimes he had to squeeze into one of the dark openings, while other times he walked straight ahead. Twisting and turning, he continuously delved deeper into the Underground.
At first, Li Hong could barely keep track of where he was going, but there were simply too many turns. Eventually, he stopped trying to remember the path and just followed the clattering sound.
Silver Ball led the way ahead; whenever it noticed that Li Hong was falling behind, it would slow down. In the darkness, its two little eyes sparkled like tiny white candle flames.
An hour later, Li Hong could no longer stand upright. The passage was clearly not designed for humans; it seemed to have been dug according to Silver Ball's height. When Silver Ball was on all fours, it was only about half a person tall, and the tunnel's height barely reached its back. Li Hong had to bend down and crouch. Walking hunched over was manageable at first, but after more than an hour, even someone with good physical condition would feel dizzy.
Li Hong complained loudly and simply sat down on the ground, shouting, "I need a break!"
A few yards away, Silver Ball blinked its eyes twice and suddenly darted forward. The clattering sound quickly faded into the distance.
Li Hong's mouth dropped open in disbelief—could it be that this creature actually left him behind? He wanted to cry but had no tears! He tugged at his hair in frustration, utterly at a loss for what to do!
Suddenly, the clattering sound reappeared rapidly approaching him. Li Hong looked up abruptly as a silver light rolled swiftly towards him, followed by a sparkling gem rolling along the ground.
Li Hong subconsciously picked it up and, upon seeing it, his mouth fell open in disbelief.
This was no gem!
About the size of a child's fist, it was crystal clear and shimmering with a kaleidoscope of colors. The light emitted was nearly an inch long, casting a rainbow of hues across Li Hong's palm. Immediately, a familiar warm yet cool sensation surged from his Upper Dantian, causing his Awareness to activate energetically, cycling through nine turns without pause.
The gem in his hand suddenly glowed brightly, and a five-colored ribbon of light shot towards Li Hong's forehead. He instantly fell into a trance, as if carved from clay or wood.
A torrent of Multicolored Light Dots surged into Li Hong's Upper Dantian like the mighty Yangtze River. The iridescent mass at the center of his Purple Palace expanded rapidly, nearly filling the entire space, continuously pouring in. It felt as if he had suddenly been fed ten buckets of rice when he was starving, making Li Hong roll his eyes back in discomfort, forcing him to pull himself out of his meditative state.
Fortunately, just in time! If he continued to cultivate, the Upper Dantian Purple Palace would have burst.
Looking again at the "gem" in his hand, it appeared to have shrunk slightly, but the familiar Multicolored Spiritual Energy contained within remained unchanged—enough for Li Hong to refine it ten times over.
This was not a "gem," but a crystallization of Multicolored Light Dots. What a treasure! Li Hong drooled and hurriedly stored it in his Cosmic Bag. He jumped up and bumped his head against the low cave ceiling, causing tears to flow from his eyes; however, he paid no mind and shouted, "Where did you get this? Good brother, take me there!"
The Silver Ball let out two whines, displaying a proud expression before turning around and rolling away.
It turned out they were already quite close. Li Hong bent down and sprinted for a while; soon many Multicolored Light Dots began to appear in the dark passage ahead. At first, their density was low and scattered. But gradually they increased in number. Normally, Li Hong would have started cultivating by now; however, he dared not do so since his Upper Dantian was still full—he could only lament the missed opportunity.
After moving forward for a bit longer, the Multicolored Light Dots became so dense that they resembled vast clouds of color filling the entire passage.
The Silver Ball clearly enjoyed this kind of Multicolored Spiritual Energy and often playfully nudged its pointed nose towards denser areas. Sometimes it even playfully pawed at them while continuing to roll forward without stopping.
Suddenly, everything brightened. Li Hong looked around and immediately felt dizzy. The dazzling iridescent rays almost blinded him.
Before him lay a stone cave approximately twenty to thirty feet wide, deeply set underground and filled with thick Multicolored Light Dots. However, what amazed Li Hong most were the walls and floor of the cave embedded with those colorful crystals—varying in size from as large as a human head to small pebbles—scattered everywhere; he could kick up many just by giving them a nudge.
After feeling dizzy, Li Hong burst into laughter. Finding the Ancient Immortal Mansion was nothing compared to this! This was exactly what he needed!
After the wild laughter, Li Hong began his frenzied treasure digging.
He decided to dig as much as he could until the Cosmic Bag could hold no more.
First, he focused on those the size of a human head. He summoned Lingyi—not as a weapon this time, but as a tool. He first sliced off the crystals along with the surrounding rock, planning to carefully peel them clean later when he had more time. This way, the speed would be much faster; otherwise, how long would it take to excavate the crystals in the Cave Full of Crystals?
On the ground and walls, circular holes of varying sizes began to appear. Even when he accidentally cut too much in some places, Li Hong couldn't bear to throw it away and used Lingyi to scoop out the remaining parts.
No waste! Waste is a shameful act!
Digging and digging, Li Hong was thoroughly engrossed in his work. He didn't even notice when Silver Ball wandered off. Digging and digging, Silver Ball returned and tugged at the hem of his robe with its paws, but Li Hong remained oblivious… his eyes only sparkled with the glimmering "gems."
Silver Ball whimpered a couple of times in grievance before leaving again…
Unaware of the passage of time or his hunger, Li Hong had been working underground for an unknown number of days. He had finally excavated most of the colorful crystals in the Cave Full of Crystals. The Cosmic Bag could hold as much as a mountain's worth of items, but now it was already half full. Half of its space was occupied by colorful crystals.
Li Hong finally stopped digging for treasures and sighed contentedly.
The entire cave was riddled with holes, leaving only tiny crystal fragments the size of grains of sand; anything slightly larger had been taken by Li Hong. The Color Cloud that filled the space had thinned out. It was only then that Li Hong noticed something unusual about the stones containing the colorful crystals.
Just days ago, his eyes were filled with colorful crystals, and now he realized that these stones were unlike any he had seen before. They were dark and dense like ink, appearing unremarkable at first glance, but they were extremely hard; when Li Hong squeezed them with his fingers, they didn’t even change shape. After thinking for a moment, he dug up a large piece about the size of a tabletop and stored it in his Cosmic Bag.
Perhaps it was a type of associated stone; in the future, he would know that such stones might contain colorful crystals inside.
He sat down on the ground and began to cultivate.
The dense Multicolored Light Dots began to surge into the body again, and Li Hong only stopped when he could absorb no more. Then, Divine Consciousness initiated the Nine Turns of Breath. With each turn of the Great Circulation, Iridescence transformed into a light white Awareness. The layer of Awareness grew thicker, while the layer of Iridescence gradually thinned, prompting Li Hong to start absorbing the Multicolored Light Dots once more.
This cycle continued endlessly.
In his pursuit of immortality, Li Hong remained in this extraordinary Underground cave, continuously cultivating. Occasionally, he would pause to play with the Silver Ball that sneaked in to see him. In this blessed cave, his cultivation progressed rapidly.
The light white layer of Awareness thickened significantly, its quality changing dramatically, becoming dense and viscous like liquid, gradually turning a pale gold. Wrapped around it was a layer of stretched Multicolored Light Dots. The scene inside the Upper Dantian Purple Palace was breathtakingly beautiful.
Not only was it visually appealing; this was liquidized Awareness! Upon witnessing this sign, Li Hong realized he had advanced another level in his cultivation. He began practicing the third part of the 《Six Spirit Salty Ritual》.
The third part differed somewhat from the second; it had only one goal—Golden Core!
Once the liquidized Awareness turned pale gold, it began to autonomously rotate around the center of the Essence Blood, constantly absorbing Multicolored Light Dots into his body to transform into Awareness. This was a significant leap forward, indicating that he would be cultivating at all times from now on.
Li Hong immediately immersed himself completely in the third part.
The thick “Color Cloud” in the cave gradually thinned, and the Multicolored Light Dots became scarcer. After an unknown number of days, Li Hong exhaled deeply and stood up from his meditation. Two beams of solid golden light flickered in his eyes and vanished.
However, there was no trace of joy on Li Hong's face. His brows were tightly furrowed as he muttered to himself, “How could this happen?”
With the third part of the 《Six Spirit Salty Ritual》 fully stabilized and the liquidized Awareness, a small grain-sized Fake Dan appeared at the center of the swirling mass. This indicated that Li Hong had entered the “Late Stage of Heart Refinement,” also known as the late stage of “Fake Dan.” Now he was just one step away from forming a true Golden Core. As long as he encountered a Heart Demon Barrier, and overcame it, his Fake Dan would transform into a genuine “Golden Core,” allowing him to officially embark on the path of “Golden Core.”
The benefits brought by the dense Multicolored Light Dots were indeed immense; during this retreat, he had risen five levels and reached the Late Stage of Heart Refinement.
The problem was that Li Hong's Fake Dan was not just one but ten! Or rather, his “Fake Dan” was not a single entity but divided into ten parts!
After entering the third part, the center mass wrapped in Awareness, which was made up of Essence Blood, unexpectedly split apart on its own into ten portions. Each portion seemed to be an individual entity, sticking together while being enveloped by Awareness, forming ten “Fake Dan” within the pale golden liquidized Awareness.
What a strange situation with Fake Dan! It is known that Fake Dan is the original form of the Golden Core, which is formed from Fake Dan but is more quantifiable. The current state of Fake Dan will determine what the future Golden Cores will be like, no wonder he looks troubled.
I have never heard of anyone forming ten Golden Cores. The energy consumption just to reach the Golden Core stage is already too much. If his Golden Core were divided into ten parts, that wouldn't even be a proper Golden Core, would it? It would just be a pile of loose sand, a "Golden Core" that could split at any moment and endanger one's life. In the Cultivation World, this is referred to as "Shattered Core." How can one survive that?
However, the Six Spirit Salty Ritual does mention this situation briefly, suggesting that it might occur, but there are no further details provided.
It seems that the divine beings who created such a miraculous technique considered this only a minor possible variable, with a low probability of occurrence. Therefore, they mentioned it in passing without offering any solutions or even explaining whether this situation is good or bad and how it might develop.
Li Hong felt an indescribable mix of emotions; his face flushed red and then pale. Gradually, he recalled something. He remembered a strange scene during his second advancement when he felt his Divine Consciousness split into ten parts—one main part and nine others that felt like they were him yet not him. That strange sensation still lingered in his memory.
Could Fake Dan's current form be related to that advancement? Or could he be the tiny variable mentioned in the Six Spirit Salty Ritual destined to form ten Golden Cores? If that's the case, there’s no need to rush; he could take it step by step and perhaps gain even more benefits.
Li Hong had always been quite open-minded. Once he thought it through, he felt no worry at all and chuckled to himself. Unconsciously, his hand brushed against his chin, and he felt an itch in his palm. Startled, he touched it carefully and burst into laughter.
Unbeknownst to him, he had grown a bushy beard.
Suddenly, a thought crossed his mind—oh no! How many days or even years have I been in seclusion here?!
