Looking around, the space inside the stone tower was much more spacious than Ye Feng had imagined. Dust filled the air, and the walls were adorned with some damaged reliefs. The ground was littered with fragments of stone and several broken massive pillars.
It was thanks to these pillars that Ye Feng successfully blocked the entrance. Although there were many Deadly Sand Scorpions outside, they were helpless against the three who had taken refuge inside the tower.
However, it seemed that the Deadly Sand Scorpions were not willing to give up easily. A series of cracking sounds came from the entrance as the scorpions outside appeared to be trying their best to destroy the pillars blocking the way.
"There are too many scorpions; it's hard to deal with them. If they break through the entrance, the consequences will be unimaginable. Let's try to find another way out," Ye Feng said after a moment of contemplation to the two women beside him, who still looked shaken.
The strength of the Deadly Sand Scorpions was average; they were merely Fourth-Stage Beasts. However, facing thousands of Fourth-Stage Beasts at once would leave anyone completely devoured.
The interior of the stone tower was pitch black, but the three of them had their vision enhanced by Vital Energy, so it didn't affect them much.
"It seems there are no other exits here," Ning Ruoxue said somewhat embarrassedly, her usual pride diminished. "It's all my fault; I couldn't hold back and attacked."
"Ruo Xue, do you dislike this tower too?" Xiao Bing suddenly interjected, sticking out her tongue. "When I got close to this broken tower earlier, I felt a wave of irritation and really wanted to destroy it completely. I didn't expect you would act first."
Ye Feng heard their words and felt something strange about them.
When he approached the stone tower, he did not sense anything unusual, while Xiao Bing and Ning Ruoxue did.
Ye Feng possessed a Soul Thought far beyond that of ordinary martial artists, and as a cultivator, his intuition for danger was much sharper than most. Why did Xiao Bing and Ning Ruoxue suddenly lose control of their emotions and develop a dislike for the stone tower while he felt nothing amiss?
Subconsciously, Ye Feng swept his Soul Thought throughout the entire stone tower, inspecting it inside and out but still found nothing.
In his frustration, a spark of inspiration flashed in Ye Feng's mind.
Since both Xiao Bing and Ning Ruoxue sensed something unusual simultaneously, it must stem from their commonality. The only thing they shared was their Phoenix Bloodline.
Could there be a hidden mystery within this stone tower that poses a threat to the two of them with their Phoenix Bloodline?
Ye Feng shared his thoughts with them.
"Try moving around inside the stone tower and see which area gives you the strongest sense of discomfort."
Soul Thought is not omnipotent; some concealed places can only be discovered through special methods.
Ning Ruoxue and Xiao Bing nodded in agreement, solemnly walking around the stone tower.
The space inside the tower was not large, and within a few breaths, they met again.
The two stood simultaneously in the center of the Ground, staring intently at a broken stone pillar about two meters long.
"This is it!" they exclaimed in unison.
"This?" Ye Feng approached, casually striking down with immense force, easily pushing aside the stone pillar that weighed over a thousand pounds.
A damp sensation rushed into the noses of the three, and a square opening about one meter wide appeared before them.
Ye Feng frowned and leaned forward to look, discovering that there were stone steps at the entrance, winding down like a giant snake, extending into darkness. No matter how hard he strained his eyes, he could not see the end of the stone steps.
"Strange, such an obvious underground passage, yet my Soul Thought cannot sense it," Ye Feng muttered, turning to Ning Ruoxue and Xiao Bing.
The two lightly covered their noses, revealing reluctant expressions. Xiao Bing even pointed at the entrance and rolled her eyes, saying, "It's too dirty; I'm not going down there."
"It smells terrible in here!" Ning Ruoxue frowned slightly and shook her head as well.
Convincing them was not difficult.
"Do you want those bugs outside crawling all over you, or do you want to walk down this path with me?"
Both girls shivered in unison.
Ye Feng wore a half-smile, and after dropping this line, he stepped onto the Stone Steps first, slowly making his way down until he soon disappeared from the girls' sight.
"Hey, wait for me!" Xiao Bing flashed an apologetic smile at Ning Ruoxue beside her and stepped onto the Stone Steps at the cave entrance.
Although Ning Ruoxue felt anxious and troubled, she didn't want to be left behind. After wrinkling her nose, she hurriedly followed Xiao Bing.
Walking in the lead, Ye Feng slowed his pace. Besides waiting for Xiao Bing and Ning Ruoxue, a more important reason was the Soul Thought.
Earlier, outside the cave, there had been no abnormalities with the Soul Thought. However, once they stepped onto the Stone Steps, the spreading Soul Thought was immediately suppressed to about ten meters outside of their bodies.
"No wonder we didn't notice the hidden entrance beneath the stone pillar; it turns out there's a mysterious restriction inside the cave that limits Soul Thought."
The three regrouped closely together, moving slowly along the steep Stone Steps.
With Soul Thought restricted, Ye Feng had to remain vigilant and took slow steps. Although Ning Ruoxue and Xiao Bing were quite surprised, they didn't ask any questions. The three maintained silence as they walked, as if any sound could bring unforeseen danger.
The Stone Steps were only about a meter wide and extremely perilous; one side was a damp cave wall covered in moss, while the other was an abyss with no bottom. The three kept close to the wall, maintaining a distance of no more than three steps between them.
After a full hour, Ye Feng's foot finally made a strange sound as he stepped onto solid ground.
"We're here!" The tension in his heart suddenly relaxed. Since there had been no dangers along the way, Ye Feng let out a sigh of relief and turned to look at the two girls.
"Ah!" Ye Feng gasped, realizing that Ning Ruoxue and Xiao Bing were nowhere to be seen behind him!
"How could this be? They were clearly right behind me!" Ye Feng's heart raced, struggling to comprehend the scene before him. Throughout his journey, his Soul Thought had been focused on Ning Ruoxue and Xiao Bing, but the moment he landed, he relaxed his mind and retracted his Soul Thought back into his body.
Almost immediately, he turned around and ran towards the nearby Stone Steps, hoping to search for the two girls.
"Bang!" It felt as if he had plunged into a soft mattress; an invisible barrier blocked Ye Feng's path, pushing him back to where he started.
"Get out of my way!" Unwilling to give up, Ye Feng summoned his Vital Energy and swung his glowing purple fist, striking fiercely at the barrier.
The immense force of his punch vanished without a trace upon impact, as if it had fallen into the ocean.
"What a powerful barrier!" Ye Feng extended his hands forward and felt a soft membrane blocking him. The Stone Steps were within reach, yet he could not get any closer.
He decided to draw out his Azure Dragon Sword. The sword flashed as he unleashed its energy, sending sword qi surging towards the barrier.
Despite being an incredibly sharp weapon of the profound rank, it had no effect; just like his punch, the sword qi disappeared without a trace upon hitting the barrier.
Ye Feng was thoroughly shocked by the bizarre scene before him. After pondering for a moment, he suddenly formed a hand seal. As his Vital Energy receded, a silver glow enveloped his fingers. As the spiritual energy flowed, heat began to radiate from above his fingertips until he condensed a fireball the size of a fist.
"Fireball Technique!"
The agile fireball shot forth from his palm with extraordinary heat, trailing a long tail of flames as it struck heavily against the invisible barrier in front of him.
"Boom!"
Sparks flew everywhere, and the sizzling sound of burning lingered. Finally, under the assault of the Spiritual Fireball, the barrier revealed its true form: a faint azure light curtain that flickered in and out of visibility. The area struck by the Spiritual Fireball began to emit wisps of blue smoke as a small opening slowly appeared before Ye Feng.
"Useful!" Ye Feng felt a surge of joy in his heart and was about to replicate the method to completely break through the barrier before him when he saw a faint blue light flash by, and the gap instantly closed up as before.
"This..." The barrier repaired itself, leaving Ye Feng dumbfounded. Although the Spiritual Fireball was effective, to completely breach this barrier, he would need at least the cultivation level of late Qi Refinement or even Foundation Stage!
"Forget it. With Xiao Bing and Ning Ruoxue's strength, there shouldn't be any major issues. It seems they were immediately transferred to a different location by a mysterious formation while stepping down." After pondering for a moment, Ye Feng decided it wasn't necessary to waste too much time on this mysterious barrier; conserving his strength for the dangers ahead was more prudent.
After sheathing his sword, Ye Feng focused his spiritual energy in his eyes and surveyed his surroundings.
It was pitch black all around. Although Vital Energy enhanced his vision, it was clearly inferior to spiritual energy. With Soul Thought being restricted, Ye Feng used his spiritual energy to observe an area of about several hundred meters, quickly clarifying the environment around him.
Before him lay a straight and flat corridor, with the ground paved with massive blue stones. The walls on either side were still adorned with large relief sculptures, though their details were obscured by dark green moss.
Although he had the urge to clear away the moss to see what lay beneath, Ye Feng restrained himself. The priority was to find Ning Ruoxue and Xiao Bing as soon as possible; both had a natural aversion to this place and might be threatened by some lurking danger.
With his Immortal Path cultivation reaching Qi Refinement Level Four, Ye Feng felt considerably braver and stepped forward into the depths of the corridor.
After walking for over half an hour, he finally reached the end of the corridor where a mottled and decayed wooden door blocked his way.
The door still bore traces of red paint that had not completely peeled off, and its copper ring was rusted with cobwebs all over it, clearly indicating that no one had visited this place for a long time.
After a brief hesitation, Ye Feng reached out and grasped the door ring, giving it a gentle pull.
"Creak!" The harsh sound of the door hinges echoed as the wooden door slowly opened under Ye Feng's tug.
Dazzling light spilled through the crack of the door, revealing an ancient hall before Ye Feng's eyes. Above the hall's ceiling hung several fist-sized Luminous Pearls that shone brilliantly, casting a soft yet radiant light that illuminated the entire hall as if it were daytime.
With a light wave of his hand to brush away the dust that filled the air, Ye Feng's gaze shifted downward and he discovered a jade statue placed right in the center of the hall!
"Is this...?" Ye Feng was shocked to discover that the jade statue before him was actually an Ice Phoenix!
Before he could think further, a sudden blast of icy energy surged toward him, making him feel as if he had fallen into an ice cellar.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Ye Feng reacted swiftly, almost instinctively channeling the Tide Sound Palm, unleashing three palm shadows from his right hand.
The palm shadows collided with the energy, creating a tumultuous wave of force. Ye Feng's hair and clothes were swept by the wave, rustling loudly, and a thin layer of frost covered his face.
"Ha!" With a roar, Ye Feng's pupils constricted, his gaze sharp as he summoned all his Vital Energy!
Thin wisps of white vapor emerged from his body, evaporating the frost that had enveloped him. Ye Feng's expression turned fierce; he had already detected the presence of an enemy hidden in the hall with his Soul Thought.
The surrounding air rippled like the surface of water, and a snow-white Phantom slowly emerged from the center of the ripple.
