Seeing someone recklessly trespass into the Central Army restricted area, a certain individual's expression turned extremely grim. Having always upheld military discipline and absolute obedience to orders as the highest principles, it was unexpected to lose face in front of the Wei Kingdom's young master at this moment.
Wei Wujie noticed that a Zhao Army Soldier was behaving so out of line and initially planned to brush it off with a joke. In his view, maintaining his brother-in-law's dignity was essential, and the Zhao Army would not dare to spread any jokes outside. Naturally, those who would laugh at the situation were the Wei Kingdom people present in the Zhao Army camp. As he was about to speak, he noticed someone’s face turning pale and decided against it.
However, the facts were right in front of him; he couldn't just pretend to be blind! Wei Wujie deliberately cleared his throat twice to mask the awkwardness of the situation and explained, "I believe this brother is just confused; it's really not a big deal!"
Zhao Sheng, already irritated by the situation, completely misunderstood the good intentions behind those words and looked even more displeased. He slammed his hand on the table and shouted loudly, "What are you all standing there for!? Hurry up and take him down!"
Seeing someone violate regulations by trespassing into a restricted area, the guards protecting the General hesitated for a moment. They had never encountered such a scene before in their lives. In the past, situations like this rarely required even a warning.
The soldiers only realized that someone had indeed openly violated regulations when they heard the command from behind them. They surged forward, intending to subdue this defiant individual first.
The warhorse provided by the Sima Family of Qin State to Luzi was undoubtedly exceptional. Just as the defenders were caught in their dilemma, the Seven Star Black Steed had already thrown everyone’s thoughts far behind. By the time the soldiers from Zhao reacted, one person and one horse had successfully broken through their defenses and were heading towards the Central Army Tent.
If Zhao Sheng, commander of the Zhao Army, had little understanding of Luzi, then Wei Wujie had an extremely deep impression of him. As an unthreatening offense rushed towards him without any killing intent, what first caught Wei Wujie's eye was the face of that former Big Shopkeeper from Prosperity Pavilion!
Since their last encounter outside Linzi City, the capital of Qi State, Wei Wujie had gained significant insight. Life is incredibly resilient but can become exceedingly fragile at the moment of facing death. Seeing this fearsome figure from Qin State again left him utterly flustered.
As commander of the Zhao Army, Zhao Sheng could never have imagined that such a fast warhorse existed in this world. By the time he reacted, a sharp point accompanied by a gust of wind lunged towards his throat.
Though Zhao Sheng was agile, it depended on who he was compared against. In that fleeting moment between life and death, he found himself unable to evade due to his opponent's speed. He watched helplessly as what seemed like slow motion unfolded before him; knowing full well he was in danger, his body merely stood still, bracing for what was about to pierce through him.
At that critical moment, thanks to Wei Wujie, who had been sitting beside him, things took a turn. Realizing something was amiss, Wei Wujie had no time to issue a warning; instead, he flipped over the table to shield Zhao Sheng from this deadly strike. Simultaneously, his bronze sword at his waist was drawn just in time to deflect Luzi's second thrust.
"There's an assassin! Protect the Grand Commander!”
As the warning bells rang out, Luzi, the General of the Zhao Army, found himself surrounded by Soldiers rushing in from all directions. If it weren't for this situation, the assassination attempt would have been a foregone conclusion.
In that fleeting moment, the dream of claiming the head of the General amidst a Thousand Troops and Horses slipped away. When the opportunity to remedy the situation arose, it was already crushed under the shield wall formed by the Soldiers who charged in without regard for their lives.
The guards were unaware that someone had intentionally held back; to them, their Grand Commander had nearly been assassinated! They raised their weapons and aimed at the assassin, hoping to take him down in the next moment and then swarm him to turn him into a pile of flesh.
Charging alone into enemy lines, unless one could capture the enemy General as leverage, there was no hope of survival without a fierce warrior to intimidate the Soldiers. However, this miscalculation meant they could only watch helplessly as their kidnapping plan slipped away. Luzi struggled amidst the chaos of the Thousand Troops and Horses, barely managing to protect himself.
Seeing that he was surrounded by Zhao Army Soldiers and Zhao General, Luzi realized that all hope was lost. He sighed deeply and desperately used his spear to carve out a temporary safe circle around him. But for someone who could no longer break through the encirclement, it was only a matter of time before he would be overwhelmed.
Wei Wujie, who intended to protect General Zhao Sheng as they left the Central Army, noticed Luzi trapped by the encircling troops and felt a surge of joy. After checking for any further threats and finding none, he stood his ground and called out to the Soldiers not to let this person escape.
"Go! Tighten the encirclement! Leave no survivors!"
Wei Wujie shouted as he saw that the overwhelming numbers of troops were not effective enough. Cursing under his breath, he grabbed a bow and arrow. With a flex of his arms, the bow creaked as it was drawn back into a full moon shape. As his breathing steadied, the sharp arrowhead began to move side to side in search of the best angle for shooting.
Horses! Horses! Today is your downfall!
Unaware that he had become a target for an archer, Luzi continued to maintain his stance. As he looked at the Soldiers rushing towards him like a tidal wave, he knew all hope was lost. Just as this thought crossed his mind, he suddenly felt a piercing sensation.
Out of the corner of his eye, he clearly saw a flash of sharpness approaching! With his body reacting too slowly to evade, Luzi felt an unsettling calm wash over him instead.
Calm! An extreme calm!
The familiar scene, is this home!?
Luzi pushed open the wooden gate of his home and was greeted by Xiao Yu'er, who had just stepped out from inside. Open Arms wanted to embrace, but felt a heavy impact on his left rib. As pain surged through him, his dazed consciousness instantly became clear.
An arrow accurately hit its target but did not pierce through as it usually would. Blocking its pursuit was the general's Armor, crafted by skilled artisans of the Qin State!
Even with the protection of the Bronze Armor, Luzi was nearly knocked off his horse by the powerful penetrating force. He leaned sideways, barely managing to hold on. He quickly propped himself up with his spear against the ground to stabilize his balance.
If anyone dared to charge in alone, they would meet their end today! The Zhao Army soldiers saw the previously impenetrable target reveal a flaw and rushed forward to complete the final killing blow.
At that Critical Moment, it was as if thunder roared from the sky. The sound shook the soldiers to their core, freezing time in that instant. Trapped in the encirclement, Luzi heard a familiar voice behind him, and a glimmer of hope buried deep in the mud suddenly broke through.
"The general of the Qin Army, Feng Quji, is here!"
"The general of the Qin Army, Li Xin, is here!"
With the spring thunder erupting, Li Xin and Feng Quji swiftly broke through the encirclement just in time. They took down several unsuspecting Zhao generals and then rode forward to protect the Governor, brandishing their swords!
