Wang Jian had just seen Luzi dancing with excitement and immediately understood that this person's brain had returned to normal. The reason for such excitement was likely that he had grasped something again. He had clearly hidden all the important things, so which phrase slipped out? Would he no longer be able to talk to Luzi from now on? This was really troubling!
While Wang Jian was earnestly engaging in self-criticism, he suddenly realized that the chatterbox beside him seemed to have gone silent. Li Xin seemed not to hear anything and suddenly reached behind him to grab his ancestral hard bow. He quickly nocked an arrow and leaped out of the Defensive Formation, shouting, "Zhao Army! Brothers stay back! I will protect the general!"
In the past, whenever Wang Jian pressed Li Xin about his words, he always found a way to change the subject. Because of this, Wang Jian hadn't taken it seriously earlier. Now seeing Li Xin shouting and rushing out of the camp, he still thought it was just another act.
Wang Jian watched as Li Xin charged toward the nearby forest as if facing a great enemy, and his heart skipped a beat. There were hundreds of thousands of Zhao Army soldiers around them; it was possible they could run into a team of lost Sentinels. Thinking this, he quickly looked toward the forest. The result of his observation was predictable; he saw nothing unusual in the snowy woods. Besides the snow-covered trees, only Luzi and Xiao Yu'er in Qin attire were present.
What a disappointing fellow! The general hadn't been this happy lately, and you went over there to cause trouble! Frustrated by Li Xin's apparent cowardice, Wang Jian stopped the brothers who were preparing to rush out. "Stay put! Be careful of the situation around the camp!"
Li Xin came from a family of archers in Qin State and had undergone special training that enhanced his long-distance vision far beyond ordinary people. This meant that what others couldn't see clearly would pose no problem for him.
Wang Jian overlooked this point, compounded by Li Dazui's frequent antics to escape questioning, which further convinced him of his current assumption. He watched as Li Xin reached the edge of the forest and leaned against a tree, pondering how this fellow would explain things to Luzi when he suddenly felt something shift slightly in his line of sight. He focused again but still saw nothing.
What a strange occurrence! What could be at that spot!?
Concerned that there might truly be something amiss, Chang Yu and Changsheng crouched beside Wang Jian and peered outside. Seeing Wang Jian's unusual expression, they were about to ask what was happening in the forest when Wang Jian suddenly grabbed a Crossbow from the wooden rack and jumped out of the formation. "It's Zhao Army Cavalry! Brothers follow me! Protect the general!"
Once everyone rushed out with their weapons drawn, Chang Yu realized that he was now alone in the Defensive Formation. Looking down at the small flag in his hand and pondering for a moment, he ultimately refrained from grabbing a Crossbow to follow them. According to the duty roster earlier, it was now his responsibility to relay messages to Shanxia's Catapult position.
Since that was the case, it was better for him to stay behind!
Determined, Chang Yu glanced at his brothers' backs and then stood up to raise a small flag signaling that the riverbank was safe. This was not an intentional concealment of the Military Situation; rather, the Dan Shui River had not seen any fighting. The sound of War Drums that had faintly drifted in with the wind had now completely ceased.
The Zhao Army's long-range projection troops had not seen the flag signals earlier. Just as they were about to notify the infantry responsible for outer security to head up the mountain for a check, they saw the safety notification. Interpreting the flag signals conveyed the message that there was no danger at the front line. Thus, they no longer focused on the Observation Post on the mountain, leaving only the duty personnel outside to continue monitoring the flag signals before they all hurried into their tents to warm up.
The cold in the mountains was much lower than in the towns, making it feel as though one's blood was almost freezing. The Soldiers responsible for transporting stones would instantly stick to the stone surface if their hands were not wrapped in cloth. If they did not find a way to carefully detach themselves, a single tug could peel off a layer of skin! Even so, this did not dampen the Soldiers' enthusiasm. They joked with each other while hiding in their tents, gnawing on nearly frozen bread that resembled stones.
As Lu Zizheng prepared to return to his position with Xiao Yu'er, he suddenly spotted dark figures rushing over from a distance. Their own troops would never advance this quickly! The only explanation was that these newcomers were Zhao's army! The two quickly hid in a snow pit behind a tree and confirmed that it was indeed a Cavalry Unit of the Zhao Army!
Luzi's greatest concern was that this group might be the pursuing troops that had been tailing them, as there were likely skilled fighters among them. However, seeing that these Cavalry appeared from an unexpected direction eased his mind slightly.
Xiao Yu'er could clearly sense Luzi's mental state and knew that with enemies appearing ahead, she quickly secured an arrow onto her crossbow. She quietly asked, "They are also Zhao Army; what’s different about them?"
Upon hearing this, Luzi paused slightly. Then he did not hide the truth and shared his earlier deduction. If this Zhao Army appeared as pursuing troops, they should have come from the east since their small team had previously stopped at a village in that direction.
Following this line of reasoning, these individuals must have first found the village before trailing here. However, this sudden appearance of Zhao Army was clearly coming from the south. It could now be confirmed that they were not part of the most concerning pursuers. From this analysis, it could be concluded that this was merely an accidental encounter with a Zhao Army Cavalry.
The differences among them were indeed significant!
Realizing this, Xiao Yu'er looked at her Crossbow; the sharp Triangular Arrowhead glinted with Cold Light under the sunlight. Regardless of whether these Cavalry were part of the pursuing troops or not, being discovered by Zhao Army was never a good thing! Seeing that the Cavalry had already approached closely enough for her to distinguish their faces from Chu Region made her shiver involuntarily.
Luzi worried that new recruits facing enemies for the first time might get into danger and quickly pulled her back into their temporary cover. He raised his Crossbow to indicate and pointed out, "The target you see is moving, so there is an issue of lead time involved." He then lowered his weapon and used both hands to gesture as he continued explaining.
"My left index finger represents the arrow you are about to shoot, while my right hand represents your target. When both are moving simultaneously, what you need to do is find their point of intersection. If you aim directly at your target and shoot, your arrow will hit where your target just was—that's why there's no lead time! If you calculate where your target will move next and shoot your arrow toward that estimated position, you will hit your target accurately. That’s what we call lead time!"
