"Fangfang, don't go, don't go."
I closed my eyes, tears slowly streaming down.
"Cui Xiangdong, you will never know what I have lost."
"I know, I know you lost our child." His voice choked, "I know everything."
I opened my eyes wide.
How could he know?
He held me tightly, his voice trembling: "Fangfang, we let that child down. It's my fault; I didn't protect you well. But can you give me another chance?"
"No." I pushed him away. "Cui Xiangdong, you don't deserve to mention that child."
"Fangfang..." He looked at me, "Can you forgive me?"
"No." I shook my head. "I will never forgive you."
I turned around and slowly walked away.
"Back then, you never came home. I didn't blame you; I was willing to wait for you to figure things out, to let me into your heart."
"We got married, but you were unwilling to share a room with me. That was fine; I would wait until you were ready."
"But you should never have called me by the wrong name that night."
"Fangfang, I..."
"I was pregnant; I wanted to tell you, but you wouldn't meet me. So I went to your company."
"But you were holding Wenwen and told me not to make a scene."
"How could I be making a scene? I lost a child!"
I looked at him, tears streaming down my face.
I was pregnant; I wanted to tell him I was carrying his child.
But I couldn't reach him; I had no choice but to go to his company.
However, I didn't even make it through the company gates.
The security guard stopped me outside and told me that Cui Xiangdong was on a business trip and didn't know when he would return.
I could only stay at home, watching over the dog named Wenwen. A month passed like this, and my belly began to show slightly. I stroked my belly, imagining what my baby would look like. Would they resemble me or him?
But just then, Wenwen suddenly dashed out onto the road as if it had gone mad. I rushed out to save it and ended up in an accident. Although I wasn't seriously hurt, I lost my child. I was heartbroken, but what I didn't expect was that Cui Xiangdong's first words upon returning were, "How can you take care of a dog? You even lost a child."
I looked at him in disbelief, hardly believing my ears. He pushed me aside and went to check on Wenwen. "Fortunately, Wenwen is fine; otherwise, I wouldn't forgive you." Tears streamed down my face as I gazed at him. "Cui Xiangdong, that was my child."
He glanced at me and said, "A child is gone; it's gone. Why are you crying?"
"You are so cold-blooded."
He looked at me with icy eyes. "Yang Fangfang, don't be unreasonable; it's just a dog. Is it really worth this much fuss?"
I let out a bitter laugh. "So in your eyes, a dog is more important than my child."
He stood up and said, "A child can be had again; a dead dog can't come back to life."
I felt completely disheartened.
"Cui Xiangdong, you're mistaken; the issue between us has never been just about a dog."
He frowned. "What do you mean by that?"
I looked at him and said, "I love you for who you are, not for your dog."
"But you've disappointed me."
"What separates us is far more than just a dog."
"Cui Xiangdong, I have given up on this. It wasn't something that happened overnight; the earthquake was just the last straw that broke the camel's back."
He fell to his knees with a thud. "Fangfang, I beg you, give me one more chance. We can still have children."
I shook my head. "No, Cui Xiangdong, I won't give you another chance because I've realized that I no longer love you."
He held my hand tightly. "No, Fangfang, you can't stop loving me. You said you loved me, you said you would never leave me."
