I chuckled to myself and said to a dog, "What good does this do?"
Dragging my suitcase, I left without looking back.
Behind me, I heard Wenwen barking, seemingly reporting me to Cui Xiangdong.
I stopped in my tracks and turned to look at it. "If you bark again, I'll throw you out."
Wenwen shrank back, too scared to make a sound.
I smiled in satisfaction. "That's more like it."
As I reached the door, I saw Cui Xiangdong standing there, looking coldly at me.
"A good dog doesn't block the way, move aside."
His expression darkened. "Yang Fangfang!"
"What is it? Do you have any advice, Mr. Cui?"
"You..." he gritted his teeth, "don't you really regret it?"
"Of course not," I shrugged. "What do I have to regret?"
His face darkened even more.
But unfortunately, I no longer cared.
I dragged my small suitcase and left without looking back.
Cui Xiangdong, goodbye.
Never to see you again.
I left with all my belongings.
There were my dreams.
Once I arrived in the city, I rented a room and started sending out resumes in search of a job.
Unfortunately, after graduating for several years without any work experience, almost no dance troupe wanted me.
I didn't give up and continued sending out resumes.
One day, I went for an interview at a dance troupe and ran into someone familiar.
Dong Hua.
She is my colleague, and we joined the Dance Troupe together. I had a good relationship with her, but I haven't seen her since I got married. She is now the lead dancer of a prominent Dance Troupe. Seeing her makes me feel a bit awkward.
When she sees me, she looks shocked. "Fangfang, what are you doing here? Didn't you marry President Cui?"
I smile lightly and say, "I got divorced."
She doesn't seem surprised. "I figured as much; otherwise, you wouldn't be out working."
"Yeah."
She looks at me, hesitating to speak.
"What's wrong?"
She sighs. "Fangfang, you shouldn't be in such a predicament."
"Huh?"
"Don't you remember? You were once the hope of our Dance Troupe; you were meant to represent the country on the world stage."
I pause for a moment and then smile. "I haven't forgotten."
"But you..."
"I'm just temporarily down on my luck."
"Can you still dance?" She looks at me with concern. "You haven't danced in almost three years."
"Of course," I nod. "I can do it."
"That's good." She breathes a sigh of relief. "I was worried about you..."
"Don't worry," I pat her shoulder. "I'll get back on my feet."
She smiles at me. "I believe in you."
I believe in myself too. I was once a dove soaring in the sky; I shouldn't be trapped in a cage. Goodbye, Cui Xiangdong.
My life has just begun. Dong Hua gave me a chance. I joined her Dance Troupe. I told her, "Don't worry, I won't make things difficult for you; I'll let my skills speak for themselves." She raised an eyebrow and said, "That's good."
I'm older now, and I haven't danced in a long time, so many of my techniques have become rusty. To keep up with everyone, I practiced day and night. I trained until my whole body ached and my toes bled, but I didn't care at all. Sometimes, Dong Hua couldn't bear to watch.
"Fangfang, you weren't like this before, practicing day and night. Take it easy." I smiled and replied, "I'm not the same as I used to be."
"What's different?"
"Now there's you."
She paused for a moment and then laughed, "You used to see me as a competitor."
"Aren't we still competitors?"
"Yes," she nodded, "but also dance partners."
I smiled slightly, "Right, we will always be dance partners." Dong Hua gave me a chance, and I didn't let her down. Soon enough, I got the opportunity to perform on stage. On the day of the performance, I saw Cui Xiangdong and his little lover, Ma Tingting. Dong Hua patted my shoulder and said, "Dance well; don't let them affect you."
"Don't worry." I took a deep breath and walked onto the stage.
