Mo Ming held Ji Yue tightly, and when Ji Yue fired the second shot, he used his back to shield Ji Yue from a bullet. Afterward, he hid beside the car, and the bullet went slightly off-target, missing any vital areas on Mo Ming.
"Ji Yue, are you okay?" Mo Ming asked, looking at the blood on his hands, his eyes filled with pain. He searched for the source of the gunfire and finally found it on Ji Yue's shoulder. Fortunately, it hadn't hit any vital areas.
"I'm fine, but it seems like you're injured too?" Ji Yue shook his head and immediately wanted to check Mo Ming's wound.
Mo Ming replied, "I'm tough; no one can take my life. But you, your wound is still bleeding. If you don't stop it quickly, it could leave lasting problems." Saying this, Mo Ming tore a piece of fabric from his clothing to make a simple bandage for Ji Yue.
The black car suddenly screeched to a halt not far ahead. Four muscular foreigners jumped out of the vehicle, one of whom had been following Mo Ming since the café.
Originally, his mission was to track Mo Ming, but when he reported Mo Ming's location, he received a strict order from above: no matter what, they had to take the opportunity to eliminate Mo Ming!
"Stay here and don't move. I'll handle the rest. Give me three minutes; after that, I'll take you to the hospital!" Mo Ming opened the car door and retrieved a handgun from beside the driver's seat. It was his personal weapon for self-defense that he usually wouldn't use, but now he had no choice.
With the gun firmly in hand and safety off, Mo Ming's eyes flashed with killing intent as he listened to the footsteps of his opponents and confirmed their general location. Without hesitation, he stood up and fired.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
A series of gunshots rang out; two of them were hit immediately—one died on the spot while another was shot through the right arm, causing his gun to fall to the ground. The remaining two rolled away and immediately opened fire on Mo Ming.
However, Mo Ming had already disappeared from sight, moving around to the back of the car. He then jumped onto the roof of the vehicle while running forward and shooting at the remaining two. His aim was precise; one bullet cleanly passed through one man's mouth.
The other person reacted quickly and pulled the trigger. Mo Ming rolled off the side of the car and landed on the ground. He fired again, creating a blood hole in that person's forehead—all this happened in less than two minutes.
Out of four enemies, three had fallen under Mo Ming's firepower. Such terrifying marksmanship left the last survivor trembling with fear; he regretted staying behind to continue fighting after their ambush failed.
But there is no such thing as regret in this world; failure comes with a price!
"You have two choices now: answer my questions or die," Mo Ming said as he approached that person, aiming his gun at their head with a grim expression. His voice was cold as if it were words from a demon drifting through the abyss.
"Go ahead and kill me, I won't answer your questions," the person said defiantly in English.
With a bang, the bullet took the life of the Foreigner.
Mo Ming didn't want to waste time on him. Ji Yue was injured, he was injured, and there might be other enemies nearby. He had to leave immediately.
"Let's go, we need to get out of here!" After carrying Ji Yue into the car, Mo Ming drove off right away. He couldn't go back the way he came because he didn't know if there were more enemies chasing after them; he could only keep moving forward.
Not long after Mo Ming drove away, three more cars sped towards the scene. The vehicles stopped beside the bodies of the four Foreigners. Lord stepped down from one of the cars, looked at the corpse lying on the ground, and his veins bulged as he kicked the corpse's head hard.
"What a bunch of useless fools! I told them not to act yet; why do these idiots always take matters into their own hands? Hmph! Do they think four useless people can kill Shura? If it were that easy, would I need to do it myself?" Lord shouted furiously.
"Lord, we might still be able to catch up if we hurry," one Foreigner said cautiously.
Lord grabbed him by the ear and shouted into it, "You useless fool! Shura is already aware of the danger. Do you think chasing after him now won't put us at risk?"
After saying this, Lord roughly let go of the man's ear, breathing heavily. He then turned and got back into the car, followed by the others who also got in and headed back the way they came.
Lord knew very well that they wouldn't be able to catch up with Mo Ming now, and they might even end up being ambushed by him!
Originally, he planned to wait for an opportunity to retrieve the Spirit Stone here, but now it seemed that Mo Ming would definitely be on high alert. Nanhua City was no longer safe for him; for his own safety, he had to leave quickly.
"My injury is just minor; you don't need to arrange for me to stay in the hospital," Ji Yue said while lying on the hospital bed to Mo Ming, who was standing nearby.
"A gunshot wound is not a trivial matter. If it's not treated properly, it will definitely leave a scar. I don't mind as a man, but if you get a scar as a woman, that would be terrible," Mo Ming replied, shaking his head.
Mo Ming felt extremely guilty about Ji Yue's injury. If he hadn't used Ji Yue as a distraction, she wouldn't have been hurt or opened up to him about her feelings. Everything that happened today made Mo Ming feel deeply remorseful.
"You don't need to feel guilty. What happened was unexpected, and you didn't want this to happen either. Besides, I don't have anything major going on, so why be so serious?" Ji Yue smiled and comforted Mo Ming, seeing through his thoughts.
"No, I should have known. But I underestimated their patience. I didn't expect their intent to kill me to be so strong. They knew the chances of success were slim, yet they still chose to act," Mo Ming shook his head heavily.
"Did you know someone was following you all along?" Ji Yue asked, her intelligence allowing her to quickly grasp Mo Ming's words. She felt a sting in her heart and said, "Are you saying that today's events and your words were all a manipulation on your part?"
"Yes, I used you," Mo Ming admitted, feeling ashamed for stooping so low as to use a woman.
"Then were all the words you said to me today lies?" Ji Yue asked hoarsely.
"No," Mo Ming shook his head. "Every word I said to you today was true, not a single lie. Whether you believe it or not, I didn't want this to happen to you. I feel very guilty about it now."
"But you saved me," Ji Yue slowly began to feel at ease and smiled as she said, "If it weren't for you blocking that bullet for me, I probably wouldn't be here right now. So I have to thank you. Even if you used me, you helped me get through a wonderful day."
"If I hadn't taken you to Panlong Road, you wouldn't have been in any danger. Why thank me? You should hate me for using you; aren't you supposed to dislike being manipulated?" Mo Ming said with a bitter smile.
"When I first heard you say that you were using me, I was indeed very upset," Ji Yue admitted honestly. "But when I think about how recklessly you saved me, I realize I shouldn't hate you. A man who would risk his life for me is someone I can't bring myself to hate. Moreover, I've fallen in love with you; I've truly fallen in love with you."
"I really don't understand why someone like you would fall for me," Mo Ming said with a bitter smile again. He had to admit that from the moment Ji Yue was injured, he felt a deep pain in his heart. He wasn't sure if it was love or just a faint liking.
"If love could be clearly defined, then it wouldn't be love anymore. I know that right now, you won't accept my feelings, but I won't give up my right to love you. Even if you'll never love me back in your lifetime, I'm willing to wait for you forever," Ji Yue said with a sweet smile, completely unaware of the pain radiating from her arm.
"I have a special feeling for you in my heart, but I can't tell you right now," Mo Ming said. "Because I'm currently filled with guilt towards you. I'm not sure if I've truly fallen in love with you yet. Please give me some time to sort out my emotions."
Is it because Ji Yue got hurt because of him that he should accept her? Mo Ming didn't want that; he didn't want to make such a confused decision about his feelings. He didn't want to hold Ji Yue back by forcing himself to love someone he didn't truly care for; that wouldn't end well.
Mo Ming didn't want to realize later that his feelings for Ji Yue were merely impulsive. Even if he married Ji Yue, he didn't want to end up indifferent towards her later on; a marriage without emotional support would not have a good outcome.
"Alright, I'll wait for your answer," Ji Yue said with a slight nod.
Mo Ming, sitting next to Ji Yue, asked, "Can I peel an apple for you?"
"No need, you're a patient too and should rest well," Ji Yue shook her head.
"This little injury is nothing to me, right? Are you looking down on me? Do you think I can't even peel an apple?" Mo Ming frowned and glared at Ji Yue. "Watch closely, I'll peel an apple for you!"
Seeing Mo Ming's expression, Ji Yue couldn't help but chuckle lightly, twirling a strand of hair and nodding gently. "Okay."
Mo Ming peeled an apple for Ji Yue and then sat beside her. When Ji Yue said she was bored, Mo Ming entertained her with a bunch of jokes, making her laugh heartily.
After Ji Yue fell asleep, Mo Ming stretched and stood up. He went to the bathroom and made a call to Liufeng. "I was attacked today. I believe Lord is still in Nanhua City. Have someone look for him; I want to kill him myself!" The last sentence was filled with coldness, reflecting Mo Ming's anger.
After hanging up the phone, Mo Ming returned to Ji Yue's bedside and sighed quietly. "Ah, love is such a complicated thing. What have I done to deserve the affection of so many outstanding women? Ah, Ji Yue, my feelings for you are really too complicated. I don't even know if I've truly fallen for you."
Whether Mo Ming admitted it or not, he initially thought he had little feelings for Ji Yue. However, when he saw her injured, he realized his heart was stirred; a feeling of not wanting to lose her filled his mind.
This might be a situation born from guilt or perhaps he really felt a sudden spark of affection. Mo Ming wasn't sure at the moment, so he could only temporarily avoid answering Ji Yue's feelings for him.
