"Come on, old man, you don't have to be like this, do you? Even a tiger doesn't eat its own cubs. How can you just watch me sit in detention? Can you live with your conscience for the rest of your life?" Mo Ming said, rolling his eyes.
Although he knew that Mo Zhentian was joking, it still made him very unhappy. What kind of father would not help his son out of trouble? Moreover, Mo Ming had helped him with many things in the past!
"Enough! Stop yelling at me. You've made too much noise over this matter; I really can't help you anymore!" Mo Zhentian said seriously. "Has that situation been resolved?"
"Resolved!" Mo Ming replied irritably.
"What kind of attitude is that? Do you talk to your father like this?" Mo Zhentian's temper flared up as he continued to press.
"And what kind of father are you? Whenever you ask me to do something, have I ever refused? Is it so difficult for you to help me out this time?" Mo Ming was too tired to argue and said, "Anyway, it's already happened. You figure it out!"
"Damn it, are you threatening me? I really can't help you!"
Mo Ming almost spat blood. He couldn't tell if Mo Zhentian was joking or serious this time. Usually, when they joked around, Mo Zhentian would quickly get to the point, but this time he insisted he couldn't help.
A Middle-Aged Officer, noticing how long Mo Ming had been on the phone, grew impatient and said, "Listen here, kid. No matter who your father is or what connections he has, you can't escape responsibility for this. You’re involved in this mess; come with us quietly!"
"Damn it! Who the hell called me 'thing'?" On the other end of the line, Mo Zhentian heard the Middle-Aged Officer's words and became furious. He shouted, "Let him take the call! I'll tell him what kind of 'thing' I am! I'm really getting fed up with this nonsense!"
"Haha..." Hearing Mo Zhentian slip up made Mo Ming chuckle a bit. He then handed the phone to the Middle-Aged Officer with a tilted head and a smug expression. "Officer, my old man is a bit angry and wants to have a word with you."
"Hey, do you think I'm afraid of you? If we’re talking, then let’s see what kind of jerk of a father raised such a jerk of a son!"
Ji Yue had already formed a preliminary understanding of Mo Ming and was somewhat aware of his background. She initially intended to stop the Middle-Aged Officer from speaking carelessly but was surprised when he insulted Mo Zhentian again and boldly took the call.
"Hello..." The Middle-Aged Officer said impatiently. Immediately, he was met with Mo Zhentian's thunderous roar: "Who the hell are you? What position do you hold in the Nanhua City Police Department? Let me tell you what kind of jerk of a father I am!"
"And who are you? You can't even manage your son properly and let him come out here causing trouble—what kind of father does that?" The Middle-Aged Officer remained unfazed by the outburst and continued arrogantly.
“NJ City Special Operations Zone Commander Mo Zhentian, acting as Chairman of the Military Commission Mo Zhentian, who the hell are you? State your name, I want to see who is so arrogant!”
Mo Zhentian spoke with a rough tone, lacking any leadership demeanor. This was understandable, as Mo Zhentian, a military man, had not read much and spent most of his time in the army, so he naturally did not come across as refined.
Currently, Mo Zhentian was temporarily holding the position of Chairman of the Military Commission, replacing Luo Qianshan. After some time, this position would need to be re-elected, but since it was in his hands now, he naturally held real power.
“Special Operations Zone... Commander... Chairman of the Military Commission? Who are you trying to fool! Just because you say you are doesn’t make it true!” The Middle-Aged Officer was momentarily taken aback by the title Mo Zhentian claimed, but quickly expressed disbelief.
“Damn it, I really have encountered an idiot!” Mo Zhentian chuckled and said, “I just want to ask how someone with your IQ got to this position? If you tell me your name, I’ll let you know if I’m really Mo Zhentian!”
“I still don’t believe it. My name is Qin Jiangming, the current Vice Captain of the Criminal Investigation Team. What do you want to do?” Qin Jiangming, a seasoned bureaucrat with a complex network of connections, was not easily intimidated by a few words from Mo Zhentian. Most importantly, he simply did not believe what Mo Zhentian was saying!
“Officer, I mourn for you…” Mo Ming snatched the phone and looked at Qin Jiangming with sympathy, saying, “He really is Mo Zhentian, a bandit leader. If you offend him, your career will be full of obstacles. You can only hope he’s just talking nonsense out of anger…”
“What Mo Zhentian or not, even if he’s God himself, I’m not afraid!”
Qin Jiangming said defiantly. However, his expression changed suddenly as he remembered the name announced at the recent national conference for the new Chairman of the Military Commission: it really was Mo Zhentian!
But now that he had spoken those words, he knew he had offended someone. He could only silently hope that the person on the other end of the call wasn’t really Mo Zhentian. Otherwise, his career would truly be over along with his carefully built network!
However, it was indeed Mo Zhentian, and at this moment, he was even angrier. He was already furious about Mo Ming, and now with Qin Jiangming stirring things up like this, he felt like he could kill.
“Old man, enough already. Calm down; you’re not young anymore. Getting angry can lead to high blood pressure, you know?” Mo Ming picked up the phone and said cheerfully, “You really need to help me solve this matter; otherwise, I might end up in Detention. Don’t push me to do something crazy!”
“Calm down? You’re going to drive me crazy! Threatening me? Let me make it clear: I won’t fall for that again. I’m telling you once more; I really can’t help you with this!” Mo Zhentian gasped angrily; one could imagine how furious he was without seeing him.
Just as Mo Ming was about to speak again, a voice from the other end came through—Leader, sounding somewhat amused—said: “Alright, what’s done is done. Old Mo, don’t get worked up. I think even Mo Ming doesn’t want things to escalate like this. I already have a way to handle this situation; don’t worry.”
“Leader, why are you here?” asked Mo Zhentian.
"Nanhua City has caused such a big commotion, how can I not get involved? I trust you, Old Mo, and I also trust your son. He would never easily do something that jeopardizes the stability of Huaxia society. It seems he was also acting passively."
Listening to Leader, Mo Ming felt a lot more at ease. With Leader speaking, this matter could be considered settled. No one dared to defy Leader's orders, and based on Mo Ming's understanding of Leader, he must have suitable reasons to help resolve the situation.
"My troublemaker at home just loves to cause chaos. Sometimes I really want to shoot him!" Mo Zhentian cursed, saying, "You should have heard what Leader said. This time you got off easy; I won't pursue it further. But don't let this happen again, understand?"
"This isn't something I wanted to happen..."
"You just need to say you understand! Stop giving me so much nonsense!" Mo Zhentian shouted.
"Alright, alright, I got it, I got it!" Mo Ming replied with a bitter smile, shaking his head. "Thank Leader for me. Now, I'm hanging up!"
After saying that, fearing that Mo Zhentian would scold him again, Mo Ming quickly hung up the phone and turned to Ji Yue. "Captain Ji, I think someone will explain this for me, so you don't need to interrogate me any further."
"Who will explain for you?" Ji Yue asked. "This matter is serious; even Mayor Fu might not be able to help you, Mo Ming. I still hope you can come back with me. And your brothers are all armed; that's illegal, you know?"
"Captain Ji, the real culprits in this situation are another group; we are all innocent!" Mo Ming insisted.
"Just because you say you're innocent doesn't make it so," Qin Jiangming interjected. "With everything that happened today, just prepare yourself for a lifetime in prison. No one can help you; not even your father, Li Gang!"
"Why do I find that every time it's the Criminal Investigation Team's Vice Captain, they always seem to have it out for me?" Mo Ming shook his head helplessly and joked, "Officer Qin, you don't need to worry about my life issues; focus on your own matters."
Just as Qin Jiangming was about to respond, Ji Yue received a phone call. "This is Ji Yue. Okay, I understand now; I know how to handle it. Yes, I'll make sure to control public opinion on this matter. Yes, yes, you can get back to your work."
After hanging up the phone and letting out a sigh of relief, when Ji Yue looked at Mo Ming, a natural smile returned to his face. "Alright, I understand your innocence now. The higher-ups have informed me that you were sent by them to help deal with the Terrorists."
"Uh, as long as you're clear about it. This matter needs to be kept low-key; I don't want too many people knowing my true identity!" Mo Ming was taken aback at first but then admired Leader's cleverness. This reason was indeed excellent and provided a legitimate way for Mo Ming to shed the blame!
"Captain Ji, are you serious? Did the higher-ups really say that?" Qin Jiangming was stunned not by whether Mo Ming was sent by the higher-ups but rather by whether Mo Zhentian's identity was genuine!
Poor Qin Jiangming didn't understand at all. Just a moment ago, he had offended a heavyweight figure over the phone, someone who could easily erase him!
"This is what the higher-ups told me. Is Captain Qin doubting my integrity?" Ji Yue frowned at Qin Jiangming, her face showing a hint of coldness.
"No, no, I just wanted to confirm..." Qin Jiangming hurriedly waved his hand and said, "Since they are all sent by the higher-ups for counter-terrorism, can we retreat now?"
"Do you still want to catch them?" Ji Yue rolled her eyes and said, "Alright, let's pack up. We must keep a close watch on those terrorists who caused the city shootout. It’s best to find out their instigator. The higher-ups take this matter very seriously and there must be no mistakes!"
"Understood!" Qin Jiangming turned around, waved his hand, and said while walking, "Okay, everyone pack up. Bring those people back to the police station; we have a lot to do in the coming days!"
"Mo Ming, if you have time, would you mind having a cup of coffee with me?" Ji Yue smiled and said, "It seems we haven't chatted in a long time. Next time we talk, I’d really like to hear about the true course of events."
Ji Yue had actually understood that the so-called counter-terrorism support team from the higher-ups was fake; it was merely an excuse to help Mo Ming clear his name. She also knew very well that since the higher-ups were willing to help Mo Ming, it clearly indicated that he wasn't a bad person!
"Sure, when I have some free time, I'll definitely treat Captain Ji to coffee. But right now, I still have a bunch of things to handle, so I won't see you off," Mo Ming replied with a slight smile.
After saying that, Ji Yue turned and left.
