In the chaotic streets of Nanhua City, a large contingent of the Police Force was fully engaged in capturing the unruly Terrorists, those who committed crimes using explosives. They had severely endangered the stability of society; even if they were merely gang members, their threat level was comparable to that of Terrorists.
These days, very few gangs dared to act so brazenly. They had blown up nearly four Entertainment Venues and committed acts of violence on various streets, clearly challenging the state! Therefore, upon receiving the news, higher authorities immediately ordered a severe crackdown on organized crime. The Police Force was determined to capture all the Terrorists threatening Nanhua City at any cost.
Through the joint efforts of the police, over two thousand individuals were arrested, with several hundred still at large. Just before dawn, all those remaining also fell into the hands of law enforcement. Some desperate members of the Hong Gang known as Death Warriors fought fiercely but were ultimately shot dead by the police.
Thus, a night of intense gang activity came to an end. The jails of the Police Force were nearly overcrowded, with many officers working shifts to interrogate over two thousand prisoners. It was estimated that it would take at least three or four days to finish questioning them all.
“Don’t touch me; I can walk!”
“I’ll say it again: I was just out for a late-night snack last night. Who knew I’d run into a bunch of guys playing with bombs and attacking people? Don’t wrongfully accuse me!”
“Exactly! Come on, if someone chased you with a knife, wouldn’t you defend yourself? Is self-defense now a crime? Is there no justice left?”
“Hmph! You bunch of ruffians don’t even understand justice! Do you know how much damage your actions caused to our society’s stability last night? Stop whining and get inside!”
Four men who looked like small-time thugs were unceremoniously pushed into the jail by several police officers. The thugs were already irritable, and when pushed like that, they immediately wanted to fight back. However, upon seeing the officers draw their weapons, they dared not move.
“What now? Besides scaring us with guns, what else can you do?” one thug said defiantly.
Another chimed in with a sneer, “Right! Outsiders came to our Nanhua City and blew up several Entertainment Venues while attacking people in the streets. Instead of arresting them, you’re arresting us? You’re just wasting taxpayer money!”
The leading officer’s face turned red with anger as he shouted, “Shut up! You bastards! Because of your troublemaking, we have to work overtime for several days. Damn it! I’m filled with rage and haven’t vented it yet, and you’re getting angry? Let me tell you: you’ll be waiting in your cells for a long time!”
With that, he ordered the cell door closed and left with his team.
One by one, more people were brought in. Suddenly, the previously quiet cell was filled with curses and shouts, making it quite bothersome. Mo Ming, who had been planning to rest inside the cell, felt his temper rising upon hearing the commotion.
“Everyone shut up!”
The four small thugs locked in the same cell heard Mo Ming's arrogant words, and one of them directed his anger at Mo Ming. He walked up to him, scrutinizing him closely, and upon seeing that he was just a boy, pointed at Mo Ming and shouted, "I just want to say, I like talking big. What are you gonna do about it?"
"Kid, I advise you to apologize to him quickly. Otherwise, this is what you'll end up like. Trust me, I won't lie to you," Demon Eye said with a bitter smile from the side.
"Why the hell should I apologize? I've got a lot of pent-up anger tonight, and I'm looking for someone to vent on..."
Before Mo Ming could respond, another thug's expression changed drastically as he looked at Mo Ming. He immediately stepped forward and slapped the first thug across the face, saying, "Shut your mouth! That's the boss of Yun Song! Are you tired of living?!"
"What... the boss of Yun Song? Isn't that our big boss?" The previously arrogant thug realized he had offended someone he shouldn't have. His face turned pale as he stammered, "Big boss, I'm sorry. I was in a bad mood today and spoke out of turn. Please don't be angry..."
Mo Ming had initially intended to teach these guys a lesson, but upon hearing their words, he reconsidered. After all, Little Green Society was under He Yunsong's control; one must consider the owner before hitting a dog. Since they didn't know who he was, their disrespect was somewhat understandable.
"Hey, I gotta say you're impressive! Becoming the big boss at such a young age—no wonder you're so remarkable. I admire you!" Demon Eye praised while giving a thumbs up.
Mo Ming ignored Demon Eye's flattery and felt an uneasy premonition. He coldly asked, "What happened outside? Why are there so many people being brought in here?"
"Big boss, something major happened tonight. The scum from Hong Gang sneaked in and injured quite a few of our brothers. They even blew up some of our entertainment venues. Damn it! If I hadn't been caught by the officer, I would have killed them myself!" the thugs said angrily.
"Hong Gang's people?"
Mo Ming immediately connected this to He Hong's situation. It was clear that someone had framed him for He Hong's death. Given tonight's events, it seemed that He Hong had been killed by Hong Gang members to hinder him before this incident occurred!
This meant that Hong Gang's people had already infiltrated earlier and sent someone to monitor him; otherwise, how could they possibly know about his grievances with He Hong?
"What’s the situation outside now?" Mo Ming inquired.
The thug who had offended Mo Ming earlier wanted to gain favor and quickly replied, "We don't know what's happening outside right now, but I do know that the police have almost emptied their ranks; they must have taken control of the situation. Those scum from Hong Gang definitely won't be able to stir up any trouble."
Mo Ming was somewhat worried that Hong Gang's people might take action against He Yunsong. He furrowed his brow slightly and squinted his eyes, saying, "You guys should be fine, right?"
"It should be fine. Tonight, it's just us little brothers out here doing the work; the bosses aren't around. I think the leader is at headquarters right now, where there are plenty of guards, so nothing should happen."
"Which boss are you four following from the Little Green Society?" Mo Ming asked, feeling relieved that He Yunsong was okay and starting to inquire about these small-time thugs.
The four thugs replied in unison, "We're all with Boss Qi Miao. Although he isn't a particularly impressive boss, he treats his brothers well. It's rare to have a boss who sees us as people; a boss like that is worth our loyalty!"
"Oh, so it's that kid Qi Miao," Mo Ming said with a smile and a nod. "He didn't get involved tonight, did he?"
"No, actually none of us are involved tonight. But coincidentally, we were out having fun when we stumbled into this mess. When we saw the place getting smashed up, we immediately jumped in to fight back. And well, we ended up getting taken away by the officer," one thug shook his head and explained.
Another thug who had been silent added, "Tonight, aside from those outside bosses, none of Yun Song's trusted aides showed up. Otherwise, how could Hong Gang's riffraff act tough in Nanhua City?"
After hearing the thugs' words, Mo Ming thought carefully and finally understood He Yunsong's intentions. He couldn't help but chuckle bitterly and said, "This move is quite risky; Ah Yun is indeed ruthless to use such tactics. From the current situation, it seems he has won this gamble."
"Uh, big brother, what are you talking about?" The thugs were confused by Mo Ming's words and asked in bewilderment.
Demon Eye sneered from the side, "No wonder you guys remain just thugs; your brains are really not working well. He Yunsong is using the enemy's actions to eliminate rivals. Ha! Hong Gang's people are pretty foolish; their goal tonight was to strike at He Yunsong's power but ended up becoming his tools instead."
"Demon Eye, not bad! You actually figured this out," Mo Ming said. Demon Eye's analysis aligned with his thoughts, and he admired Demon Eye even more for being a clever thief since childhood.
"Come on! If I couldn't see through something like this, I'd have jumped off a building long ago. Damn it! You can insult my profession but don't insult my intelligence!" Demon Eye shot Mo Ming a fierce glare.
Just then, the door to the cell opened, and a police officer walked in, pointing at Mo Ming and saying, "Alright, Captain Ji wants to see you. Come with me!"
"Heh heh, Captain Ji hasn't disappointed me; they've really found evidence proving I'm not the murderer," Mo Ming said lightly to the thugs. "You guys take good care of your brother Demon Eye here; I guarantee he won't treat you poorly."
"Yes, yes, big brother, we will definitely treat Demon Eye well." The thugs nodded and bowed.
Demon Eye chuckled and said, "Remember our agreement! Don't keep me waiting too long!"
"Don't worry, it won't take long." Mo Ming smiled lightly and followed the police officer out.
This time, the police officer did not take Mo Ming to the Interrogation Room, but directly brought him to the door of Ji Yue's office. He said to Mo Ming, "Captain Ji is inside; you can go in by yourself."
After saying that, the police officer left.
Mo Ming knocked on the door, and Ji Yue's voice came from inside: "Please come in."
"Heh heh, Captain Ji, you look quite exhausted after a few hours apart. Last night's events must have kept you busy," Mo Ming said with a slight smile as he entered and saw the weary-looking Ji Yue.
"You know what happened last night," Ji Yue said lazily as he stretched and smiled at Mo Ming. "However, I didn't participate in last night's police operation; instead, I went to help you find evidence for your defense."
"Oh? I didn't expect Captain Ji to give up participating in the police operation for my sake. That makes me feel quite flattered. I'm thinking maybe I should find an opportunity to repay you," Mo Ming said as he took a seat without invitation, looking at Ji Yue with a slight curve at the corner of his mouth.
Ji Yue interlaced his fingers on the table and shook his head with a smile. "No need for that. I never accept bribes, so you don't have to repay me. Besides, almost all of the Police Force was mobilized last night; having one more or one less doesn't matter."
