This strategy of feigning an attack from one direction while striking from another is indeed clever. Currently, there are no defenses in the Central Region, and the only combat power left is Mo Ming alone. The enemy's approach through the sewers was completely outside of Mo Ming's expectations, which can be considered a lapse in his vigilance.
However, with the situation having developed to this point, Mo Ming does not want to concern himself with too many matters. His mind is solely focused on how to buy time while waiting for reinforcements or how to deal with the fifty or so infiltrators.
"Damn, no wonder they say there's strength in unity. Relying on my own firepower, I can't completely stop their advance," Mo Ming thought as he felt the group getting closer, while their firepower continued to suppress his movements, leaving him no chance to breathe.
At this moment, the enemy began to speak.
"To the person on the other side, I don't care who you are. If you refuse to surrender, we cannot guarantee your life!" one person shouted loudly in English. "Lay down your arms, and we won't kill you. We just need to take you back to face our leader. Otherwise, you'll die tonight!"
"Hahaha, why waste so much breath? I'm not afraid of dying! If you have the guts, go ahead and kill me! Stop barking like a dog; it's annoying!"
A cold smile appeared on Mo Ming's lips as his gaze turned sharp and deadly. Even in this dire situation, he maintained a calm demeanor. He pulled the pin from a grenade and tossed it behind him before gripping his gun and peeking out.
The moment he peeked out, the grenade exploded, temporarily distracting the enemy. Using his earlier judgment based on gunfire sounds, he aimed in that direction and fired a shot that quickly pierced through one man's head. Then he shifted his aim and fired again, instantly taking down three more enemies.
However, even though Mo Ming quickly ducked back down, he still took a bullet to his shoulder. Fortunately, thanks to his bulletproof vest, it was only the force of the bullet that impacted him; he sustained no serious injury. From peeking out to retreating took merely six seconds—his reflexes were astonishingly fast.
His quick reactions were precisely what made him terrifying; almost all enemies who recognized him feared Mo Ming's rapid responses, precise shooting skills, and extraordinary agility. There were very few people in the world who could match him.
"Spread out! That guy is alone; there's no way he can fend off all of us! One squad provides cover fire while the rest surround him!"
Hearing this from the enemy made Mo Ming furrow his brow tightly. Their numbers were too dispersed and they had cover fire; relying solely on himself would be impossible. Moreover, there was nothing behind him for cover; if he tried to retreat even a few steps, he would immediately become a target.
"Damn it! I calculated everything but didn't expect those guys would come out like rats from the sewers!" Mo Ming thought bitterly as he listened to footsteps approaching from behind and gunfire ringing out. "Am I really going to die here tonight?"
In his current predicament, Mo Ming couldn't afford to peek out anymore. He had to rely on the sounds of gunfire to pull pins from one grenade after another and throw them out rapidly. Explosions erupted behind him along with screams.
This could hold off the enemies for a while longer, but it wasn't a long-term solution since they were too dispersed for him to hit effectively with grenades. Moreover, he was running low on grenades and had already used them all up.
"Damn it! From that firepower, there are still plenty of their guys alive!"
Just as Mo Ming was trying to think of a way out, an object fell from above him. His first instinct was to dive aside; however, the grenade exploded too quickly for him to react fully, and part of its force sent him flying.
Fortunately, although he lost control of his body momentarily, Mo Ming realized that all his limbs were intact. He had merely been thrown by the shockwave of the explosion; shrapnel embedded in him wasn't enough to take his life.
"Fuck..." Before he could finish cursing, Mo Ming felt a heavy sensation in his head and struggled to keep his eyes open as sounds around him faded into silence. Despite being semi-conscious, he could vaguely sense someone approaching him.
"This guy has killed quite a few of our brothers. Should we take him out now?"
Another person replied, "His identity is still unclear. Let's keep him for now; he might be useful. You guys split up and search quickly. We must capture everyone hiding here!"
"The situation is getting a bit dire. Their reinforcements arrived earlier than planned, and our brothers outside are struggling against the attack from both sides. With this kid in our hands, it’s better to retreat for now. Once we pry more secrets from him, we won’t have any trouble dealing with Shura."
After pondering for a moment, he reluctantly said, "Damn it, it has to be this way. If we don’t retreat soon, we might end up buried here. It’s not worth it. Bring that guy along and let’s retreat through the sewer immediately!"
...
Outside the Dragon Soul Gang's area, Liu Wenjie had already led a group of brothers to surround the place. Although they only had handguns, their numbers were overwhelming, and they coordinated with the brothers inside the Dragon Soul Gang. Even if Reed's Trump Card team was strong, they were struggling to cope with the situation.
However, the enemy's combat strength was still formidable. Liu Wenjie found it difficult to break in and wore a worried expression. He had received information from Jessica that there were enemies infiltrating the area. If Mo Ming got into trouble, he would definitely be punished since tonight's mission was to protect the rear, but the enemy had bypassed him!
"You bunch of useless fools! Hurry up and take care of those scum! Shura Boss is in serious danger right now. If something happens, not just me, but you all won't get away!" Liu Wenjie urged his subordinates as he gripped his handgun and fought fiercely against the enemy.
At that moment, another large group rushed over, and Liu Wenjie’s eyes widened in surprise. Upon seeing who it was, he finally breathed a sigh of relief; it wasn’t Reed’s reinforcements but Night Peak returning with his men.
"What’s going on?" Night Peak asked with a murderous glare.
Liu Wenjie shuddered involuntarily; deep down, he was somewhat afraid of Night Peak, known as the Evil Ghost—a bloody killer. Now that he had failed in his duty, he felt even more anxious and hurriedly said, "The enemy's firepower is too strong; we can't break in..."
"To hell with it! What does strong firepower matter?" Night Peak shouted angrily at those behind him. "Right now, Shura Boss is in trouble! Even if we die, we must protect him! No matter how fierce their firepower is, charge forward! I don’t believe they can kill us all!"
After saying this, Night Peak was the first to charge forward under heavy fire without caring for his life, wielding a blood-soaked large knife like an Evil Ghost emerging from hell, his face twisted in ferocity.
Although the younger brothers were somewhat scared, seeing their leader Night Peak leading by example motivated them; they weren’t cowards either and followed suit with their cold weapons. Thousands of them charged recklessly through the hail of bullets.
"You guys hurry up and go inside to rescue Shura Boss! The rest of you take care of these scum!" Seeing Night Peak risking his life while he had failed in his duty, Liu Wenjie gritted his teeth and led a group into the fray.
Amidst the gunfire, Night Peak ran swiftly but didn’t foolishly run in a straight line; instead, he kept low and moved erratically, miraculously avoiding being shot. However, bullets frequently whizzed past his ears.
Many of the younger brothers following him were unfortunately hit by gunfire. Yet the enemy's firepower gradually weakened; perhaps seeing Night Peak and others charging recklessly made them realize that even if they killed everyone here, they couldn’t retreat safely. Thus they decisively left some behind to cover while others retreated.
The firefight had reached its final stage. The remaining members of the Trump Card team covering for their main force couldn’t withstand the attacks from both sides and were quickly wiped out. Night Peak ignored them and charged directly into the community.
Jessica hadn’t heard gunfire from outside for a long time and didn’t see Mo Ming coming to find her; she knew something must have happened to him. Therefore, she went out looking for Mo Ming but naturally couldn’t find him as he had been taken away long ago.
Night Peak rushed into the community and spotted Jessica. He hurried over with an anxious expression and asked, "Miss Jessica, where is Brother Mo Ming?"
"Ah, the boss might be in serious trouble trying to protect himself. What should we do? If something really happens to him, how will we explain it to the Lion?" Jessica said, feeling a bit overwhelmed as she shook her head vigorously. "Did you not see the boss when you arrived? If you didn't, they probably escaped through the sewer."
"I didn't see him. But don't worry; if we can't find his body here, it means he is still safe and hasn't died. Since he isn't dead, there must be a way out," Night Peak thought to himself. Although he felt anxious, he remained calm and analyzed Mo Ming's possible situation.
If someone were truly dead, there would definitely be a body. After all, if someone had died, there would be no need for the other party to dismember or take the body away. Since there was no body of Mo Ming in the community, it meant he was still safe. With that belief, Night Peak was confident that there was still a way to resolve the situation.
Liu Wenjie approached Night Peak, looking frightened as he asked, "What about Evil Ghost... how is Shura Boss doing now?"
"Hmph, your task tonight was to guard the rear, yet you let someone break in. What punishment do you deserve?" Night Peak snorted coldly, his eyes filled with intensity. "Let me tell you, if anything happens to Brother Mo Ming, you won't have it easy!"
"Ah, I know this is my fault. If anything happens to Shura Boss, I, Liu Wenjie, will immediately commit suicide to accompany him. I absolutely won't be afraid of death!" Liu Wenjie sighed heavily, already preparing himself for the worst.
Jessica still looked anxious and said, "Let's not worry about whose fault it is right now. The most important thing is to send someone to chase after them and see if we can catch up. I'll call the Lion shortly and ask how things are going on his end. If he succeeds, then the boss's safety will be guaranteed."
"Yes, you're right. I'll take people to chase after them now; hopefully, we can catch up," Night Peak nodded and immediately led his team into the sewer to pursue them. Meanwhile, Jessica hurried back to make a phone call, leaving Liu Wenjie standing there anxiously in place.
