As a group of men in black surged forward, Mo Ming and Shang Xige remained calm, showing no fear of impending death. They exchanged a glance and nodded at each other.
"You go first! We’re out of bullets. If we don’t leave now, we’ll both die here!" Mo Ming shouted as he pushed Shang Xige, angrily saying, "Get out of here! I can handle this alone; I don’t need you!"
"Haha... none of you are getting away. Brothers, capture them alive! I want to make them wish they were dead, in revenge for our fallen brothers!" The leading man in black, Fourth Brother, felt a surge of excitement at Mo Ming's words.
The enemies were closing in, but Mo Ming and Shang Xige showed no signs of panic. They stood still, their eyes deep like wolves in the dark, seemingly waiting for the enemy to charge.
"Attack!"
As the group of men in black came into view, Mo Ming rolled to retrieve the AK47 he had dropped earlier. At the same time, Shang Xige lunged forward and unleashed a spray of bullets from his gun.
Shang Xige had little ammunition left; after a single sweep, he was out. Meanwhile, as Mo Ming stood up with the AK47, he immediately opened fire on the men in black.
The men in black clearly did not expect this turn of events and were caught off guard. The front line was immediately met with a hail of bullets, causing blood to splatter. The leader reacted quickly, diving to the side and taking cover against the wall.
"Take cover! Quickly!" Fourth Brother shouted angrily, cursing under his breath, "Damn it, we fell for those two's trick! You better not fall into my hands; otherwise, you'll regret it!"
"A gift for you all: setting a trap for a pack of dogs."
Some of the men in black at the back reacted quickly and also took cover against the wall. Originally around ten of them, after being ambushed by Mo Ming and Shang Xige, only four remained now, including Fourth Brother.
"Hmph, just wait to die. It won’t be long before you’re surrounded," Fourth Brother sneered coldly, his voice laced with menace. "Once I catch you, you'll experience a fate worse than death."
...
Time passed slowly. After a burst of gunfire, silence fell; it was eerily quiet. Fourth Brother felt puzzled and waved to the man opposite him to check the situation.
The man in black across appeared fearful and hesitated but eventually peeked out cautiously. He quickly glanced around before retracting his head. Initially scared, he noticed the corridor was empty and felt reassured enough to look out again.
"Fourth Brother, they’ve run away!"
Fourth Brother heard this and immediately tightened his grip on the spear as he rushed out. Upon looking around, he indeed found no trace of the two individuals, which made him feel a surge of anger. He slapped the black-clad man across the face and said, "Useless! You're all useless! You couldn't even take down two kids, and you still dare to call yourselves members of the Bloodthirsty Mercenaries!"
The black-clad man felt somewhat wronged and muttered, "Wasn't it you who said to leave one alive? That's why we charged in..."
"Idiot! What are you mumbling about?" Fourth Brother shouted in fury.
"Nothing, Fourth Brother. We should hurry and chase them; otherwise, we'll lose them..."
Fourth Brother slapped the black-clad man again and said, "I don't need you to teach me! Brothers, they must still be at the Feng Lai Hotel. You," Fourth Brother pointed at one of the black-clad men, "go back and tell the captain to be careful; they might be a bit tough."
"Understood." The black-clad man replied and quickly jogged towards the lobby.
"Alright, the rest of you come with me. Old Six should be arriving soon. Once he gets here, those two guys will be caught between us." Fourth Brother tightened his grip on the spear and led the way, with the other two closely following.
The previous battle took place in a corridor lined with rooms. Fourth Brother led the remaining two as they searched each room thoroughly. They reached the last two rooms without finding anyone; if they couldn't find anyone now, it would truly be over.
Just as Fourth Brother and the others entered a room, he caught a glimpse of a figure darting past the doorway. Instinctively, Fourth Brother shouted, "Chase after them!"
As they exited the door, they saw that figure fleeing downstairs. While pursuing, Fourth Brother sneered, "You really think you can escape? Heaven has a path you refuse to take; hell has no door but you barge in—you're asking for death!"
When they reached the next floor down, that figure had vanished without a trace. Fourth Brother cursed under his breath, "Damn it! Those two kids are really fast; they've completely disappeared! Wait a minute, there was only one figure just now!"
Was this a diversion?
Clearly not, because if it were a diversion, there would have been some other purpose behind it. Fourth Brother found himself puzzled, especially about why someone would appear behind him!
Before he had time to think further, several more black-clad men rushed up from downstairs. They were from another squad sent by the captain, and leading them was Old Six.
"Fourth Brother, what's going on? I heard gunshots downstairs and later found that only a few of my squad members survived," Old Six said anxiously, speaking rapidly.
Fourth Brother shook his head and said, "The plan is too rigid. My team was once complete, but now only four of us are left... Old Six, they should be hiding on this floor. Let's go together to avoid being picked off one by one."
"Okay." Old Six nodded and then instructed, "Everyone stay alert. The opponent is not someone to be underestimated. If you're careless, your lives may be at stake. Follow our lead, and no matter who you see, even if they're dressed in black, don't hesitate—just shoot to kill!"
Old Six's methods were indeed ruthless; he could adopt the mindset of "better to kill the wrong person than to let the right one escape." Not everyone could do this, and Fourth Brother certainly didn't share that mentality. Hearing Old Six's words, he smiled wryly and said, "Old Six, if you keep this up, it might not end well for us; it could incite public anger."
"Hmph, Fourth Brother, if we don't act this way, we might end up dead!" Old Six snorted coldly and addressed the black-clad figures, "Did you all understand? No matter who appears ahead, shoot without hesitation!"
Fourth Brother understood Old Six's personality well; he knew he had a bloodthirsty nature, somewhat akin to those neurotic types. Because of this, Old Six was much more skilled than him; even though he was with Old Six, he was capable of taking down Brother Three, a formidable character.
Under the leadership of Fourth Brother and Old Six, the remaining black-clad individuals were on high alert, cautiously observing their surroundings. In such a tense state of mind, even the slightest movement would put them on edge.
The Phoenix Grand Hotel was large; just one floor had many rooms, all spacious enough to accommodate dozens of people. Fourth Brother and Old Six searched room by room but found nothing after checking many.
As they approached one room, they noticed that the previous rooms had been kicked open by the expendable black-clad men. Regardless of whether they would find anything inside or not, Old Six and Fourth Brother remained cautious, holding their rifles aimed at the door.
"Bang!"
After a disposable black-clad man kicked open the door, Fourth Brother and Old Six rushed in immediately, carefully finding cover to hide behind. Out of the corner of their eyes, they caught sight of a figure quickly shrinking away.
"Brothers, he's inside! Be careful not to get hurt!" Fourth Brother called out to the black-clad men outside the door. He exchanged a glance with Old Six, who nodded in understanding. They both crawled forward to sneak around the table for cover.
The black-clad men outside rushed in as well and began firing wildly. The sound of gunfire echoed through the room as they sprayed bullets in one direction before stopping. Fourth Brother stood up and led his team forward slowly.
Just as they took a few steps, a head suddenly popped up from across the room. In an instant, as Fourth Brother and his team fired at it, it ducked down again. Immediately after, a dark gun barrel rose from another direction, followed by flames shooting out.
Several gunshots rang out in the room; it was blind firing but managed to hit one of the black-clad men in the leg. He couldn't help but scream loudly while the others immediately turned their fire toward that direction again.
"Ha ha, there's no need to struggle anymore. Tonight, this will be the last space of your existence!" Fourth Brother sneered. "Come out, I see you. If you don't come out now, I'll start shooting!"
As he cautiously spoke, Fourth Brother slowly walked over. Old Six was circling from the other side and was getting closer to that spot, only two meters away. The situation was becoming increasingly dangerous; if Old Six really managed to sneak up, it would be truly perilous.
"Enjoy the fear that comes with death; it will be unforgettable... Oh, wait, you're about to die, so consider it the last painful sensation of your existence in this world!"
However, no matter what Fourth Brother said, there was no movement from the other side.
Old Six quietly moved closer again, but it seemed the other side had noticed his presence. Suddenly, a hand holding a gun shot several rounds from a hidden spot before retracting. It nearly cost Old Six his life.
Caught off guard by the sudden discovery, Old Six had no time to react. Fortunately, he wasn't hit by any bullets. As the other side fired, Old Six quickly halted and ducked down, not daring to make another move.
"I have to say your insight is impressive; even my slightest movement was detected by you. Ha ha, but this is where it ends. Tonight, you must die." Old Six said ominously. "Don't worry; before you die, enjoy my unique torment!"
Fourth Brother stopped wasting words to confuse him and led the men in black to unleash a barrage of gunfire toward the opposite side. This was a cover fire meant to allow Old Six to approach easily.
Indeed, under such firepower, the other side couldn't make any moves. Just as Old Six was about to act, he caught a glimpse of a shadow appearing behind him at high speed. When he turned around, he immediately saw one of the men in black having their throat slit by the opponent.
"It's you! Williams Mo!"
