Ren Long's words were a blatant mockery, and everyone could hear it; it was a taunt directed at Mo Ming for living off others.
The atmosphere around them became somewhat strange, with everyone holding their breath and stealing glances at Mo Ming. To their surprise, the acting president showed no signs of anger, wearing a broad smile that only seemed to grow wider.
How would Mo Ming retaliate? Would he explode in fury?
"Ha ha, thank you for the compliment, Director Ren," Mo Ming replied cheerfully. "Living off others is also a kind of skill. If you don't believe me, why don't you give it a try..." He paused for a moment before bursting into laughter again. "I almost forgot, Director Ren is someone else's godfather. Oh dear, godfather, such an old man—definitely can't live off anyone."
This humorous comeback elicited a wave of suppressed laughter from the surrounding staff. Though quiet, it was enough for Ren Long to hear, causing his face to darken as he frowned and scolded, "What are you laughing at? Don't you all have work to do?"
"Director Ren, why take things so seriously? In this world, if you take everything to heart, you'll truly lose," Mo Ming teased. "Director Ren, it seems everyone has been here working for quite some time. As for you, we're about to have lunch—are you here to join us?"
"Hmph, Mr. Mo, you're joking. As the Client Department Director, I naturally have clients to meet," Ren Long snorted coldly. "Fine, if Mr. Mo wants to show off, go ahead; I won't entertain you."
With that, Ren Long took a few steps toward his office.
"Director Ren, please wait a moment."
Ren Long stopped and turned around with a forced smile on his face. "I wonder if Mr. Mo has any further instructions?"
"If there's nothing else, how could I dare disturb Director Ren at work?" Mo Ming smiled and walked up to Ren Long. "Could you please organize all the client information and bring it to my office?"
Upon hearing this, Ren Long narrowed his eyes into slits.
The client information had always been under his control; Murong Lian never overstepped this boundary. However, for Mo Ming to demand the client information right after taking office meant reclaiming some of the authority from the Client Department Director.
Everyone was stunned, feeling a bit anxious. The atmosphere in the company was tense, signaling a change in power dynamics, with authority now concentrated solely in the hands of the President.
"Mr. Mo, does this mean you want to dismiss me from my position as Director?" Ren Long's expression was slightly grim as he said, "In terms of seniority, I am a veteran of Starry Melody. Is it appropriate for you, a new official, to target me right away?"
"Director Ren, you're overthinking it. I'm not dismissing you; I just want you to hand over the client information," Mo Ming replied, shrugging with a smile. "Besides, your status as a veteran doesn't matter much; positions are often held by capable individuals, not based on qualifications."
A hint of anger flickered in Ren Long's eyes, but he suppressed it and tried to maintain a calm tone. "Well, if you do this, won't the client department become virtually nonexistent?"
"Not necessarily. I just want to see the efficiency of the client department. If it cannot bring benefits to the company, then this department is expendable and won't have much impact," Mo Ming retorted sharply.
"Haha... a clown! With the tiger gone from the mountain, the monkey comes out to perform. Mo Ming, do you really think you're the President now?" Ren Long sneered, a trace of disdain on his lips.
"Enough, Director Ren. Your unproductive words hold no value," Mo Ming said without showing any anger. "I want to see all client information by today; otherwise, please take all those clients and jump ship."
This last statement left everyone present in shock. Had Mo Ming lost his mind? Did he not realize how damaging it would be for the advertising company to lose clients? It was astonishing that he spoke so lightly about it.
Ignoring the changing expressions on Ren Long's face, Mo Ming turned to leave. Just as he reached the office door, he suddenly turned back to look at the stunned Ren Long and smiled slightly. "Oh, and Director Ren, please make sure to come to work on time in the future and set a good example for everyone."
Ren Long couldn't help but twitch his mouth as he watched Mo Ming slam the office door shut. He was so furious that he felt like his lungs were about to explode and muttered under his breath, "What the hell are you? Fine then, I won't work anymore."
After saying that, Ren Long glared at those around him who were secretly watching and shouted angrily, "What are you looking at? Hurry up and get back to work instead of gossiping—bunch of fools."
Returning to his office, Ren Long opened his computer and was about to delete files when he was shocked to find that those documents were slowly disappearing right before his eyes, leaving only one folder titled "For Director Ren's Attention."
"That bastard messed with my computer..." Ren Long suddenly thought of Mo Ming and realized, angrily saying, "No wonder he dares to be so arrogant; he actually stole all the clients' data."
Driven by curiosity, Ren Long opened the folder and was shocked to find it contained only some ambiguous photos and videos of himself with those women, which he had deleted a long time ago. How could they still be here?
What surprised Ren Long the most was that there was also a document inside, clearly indicating that some client data was just empty shells that didn't exist, along with information about embezzled public funds in recent years. He had intended to delete this information but found a note left behind.
"Sorry, Director Ren. Since I've discovered these secrets, there's no need to be angry or destroy them; I've already backed up this data."
Ren Long couldn't calm down. If the embezzlement data got out, his reputation would be ruined. This was no joke. In his anxious thoughts, he considered that if Mo Ming was doing this, there might still be a chance to turn things around.
He hurriedly rushed out of the office and quickly entered the president's office.
"Uh, what's wrong with Director Ren? He seems quite flustered."
"Who knows... maybe he's really afraid of Mr. Mo."
"That's impressive; he even dared to say that. Mr. Mo's presence is strong; no wonder President Mu made him acting president. His abilities are quite remarkable; I respect that."
...
"What is Director Ren in such a hurry for? Did you forget to knock?" Mo Ming sat at the desk with his fingers interlaced, resting his chin on them, a slight smile on his lips.
Ren Long looked flustered and frowned, saying, "Mo... Sir, what do you want? How can I get those things back from you? Just say it; I won't refuse as long as I can do it."
"Oh, you've seen what I've left for you?" Mo Ming stood up with a smile and said, "No need to be nervous; this matter can still be resolved peacefully. I definitely can't return those items to you, but I want you to hand over the client department's data in front of everyone and then focus on working for Starry Melody Company."
"Alright... I promise you, as long as you don't expose those things, I'll do everything as you say and focus on my work from now on. I won't take any chances again." Ren Long completely lost his earlier bravado and obediently followed Mo Ming's words.
Mo Ming walked around the desk and approached Ren Long, patting him on the shoulder with a smile. "Director Ren, I think you're a talented person. The early success of Star Rhythm Operation was thanks to you. It's just that greed clouded your judgment, leading you to do things you shouldn't have. You still have your abilities, which is why I'm willing to keep you."
"Yes, I will work hard."
"Hehe, everyone makes mistakes sometimes. As long as you're willing to correct them and put in the effort, forgiveness is still possible." Mo Ming smiled and said, "Alright, you can go back to work now. As long as you follow my instructions, those documents will never be discovered, and your reputation and wealth will remain intact."
"Okay, okay, I'll do as you say. I hope you won't go back on your word." Ren Long nodded repeatedly before leaving the office.
Mo Ming took a sip of coffee and said with a smile, "Ren Long, when I hacked into the computer to investigate the mole, I noticed something was off about you. If not for some events that happened later, you wouldn't be so pleased with yourself today. I'll let you off this time because I see some potential in you."
Ren Long found himself at Mo Ming's mercy and dared not act arrogantly anymore. He became as docile as a sheep and handed over the client department's documents in front of everyone while apologizing for his previous words and actions.
The stark contrast in Ren Long's attitude was truly puzzling; he had been completely subdued after just one visit to Mo Ming's office.
However, this incident showed that Mo Ming's authority had firmly taken root; even Ren Long was willing to obey him without question. How could the junior staff dare to disobey?
Qiu Lan hesitated for a moment but resolutely walked to the office door and knocked.
"Come in."
Qiu Lan opened the door and stepped inside, noticing that Mo Ming was focused on his computer and not looking at her. She felt a bit displeased but didn't dare to express it; after all, Mr. Mo was in a powerful position now, and she couldn't afford to show him any disrespect.
Of course, Qiu Lan was just sulking.
"Girl, since you're here, why are you just standing there without saying anything? If you have something to say, just say it." Mo Ming was not ignoring her; he had caught a glimpse of Qiu Lan out of the corner of his eye, but at the moment he was busy... cough, busy playing a game, and didn't have time to look.
Originally overlooked by Qiu Lan, she realized from Mo Ming's words that he had known who she was since she walked in.
"Mo Ming, oh no, I mean Mr. Mo, I'm here to return the money." Qiu Lan said as she took out a bank card and placed it on the table. "I noticed you never had time to handle this, so I took the liberty of getting one for you. The money has been transferred; you can check it at the bank."
"Uh..." Mo Ming immediately abandoned the game and looked at the bank card on the table, stunned for a moment before he smiled wryly and said, "Girl, you really did give me money. Should I call you foolish or just foolish? But I must say, I admire this unique trait of yours."
Hearing Mo Ming's words, Qiu Lan felt a bit pleased. From his tone, it seemed that the Mo Ming in front of her was still the same bodyguard she knew; only his identity had changed, while everything else remained largely the same.
"Girl, do you have anything else? If not, then go out and work hard." Mo Ming smiled kindly.
"I have nothing else, so I'll head out now."
Qiu Lan shook her head with a slight smile on her face. After giving Mo Ming one last glance, she walked out.
