Not far from the villa, two figures darted through the woods.
The bright moon hung high in the sky, casting a faint cold light. Shang Xige was in the lead, moving swiftly and nimbly dodging several bullets fired from behind by the Silver Gunman, who was hot on his heels.
Understanding that bullets could not hit Shang Xige while he was running ahead, Silver Gunman ceased firing and continued to pursue closely. The two moved with equal agility; as long as Shang Xige kept running, Silver Gunman would not be able to catch up.
“Ha ha! The recently rising Blood Butcher is nothing but a coward who runs away. What a disappointment! I thought we could have a fair fight, but it seems you should stop calling yourself Blood Butcher.”
“I think ‘Mouse’ suits you better, considering how timid you are. You can only hide and ambush people, right?”
Shang Xige was not fooled by such taunts. He knew Silver Gunman’s marksmanship was precise, and he had no confidence in challenging the power of the silver gun with just his dagger. He could only wait for an opportunity.
With patience, he would eventually find a chance to counterattack. If he wanted to defeat someone stronger, this was the only way.
“Silver Gunman, your words are useless; I won’t fall for your tricks.” As he continued to run forward, Shang Xige sneered, “Silver Gunman, your shooting is fast and your reflexes sharp; perhaps you should be called Quick Shooter from now on.”
Silver Gunman’s gaze grew colder, and a sinister smile crept onto his lips. “Blood Butcher, you better hope I don’t catch you. If you fall into my hands, I’ll make you wish for death but find no escape.”
“You talk too much. If you have the ability, then catch up to me instead of daydreaming over there.”
One fleeing and one chasing under the moonlight, they had run quite a distance without showing signs of fatigue; their speed remained undiminished. They were indeed two legendary assassins known in the killer world with remarkable stamina.
However, this state could not last long. Just as Shang Xige burst out of the small forest, he realized ahead lay an open space with distant mountains looming ominously under the mysterious glow of Mist Moon.
Ahead was a cliff!
Shang Xige halted in his tracks. As he turned to retreat, Silver Gunman had already charged forward without uttering another word. He raised his formidable silver gun and aimed directly at Shang Xige.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Even with the silencer, Shang Xige's ears still recalled the dull sound of three consecutive gunshots. Instinctively, he pushed off the ground and threw himself to the side, narrowly avoiding those three shots.
Before Silver Gunman could react, Shang Xige charged forward with a dagger in hand. Silver Gunman swung his gun, trying to aim at Shang Xige, but Shang Xige's movements were erratic, making it difficult to target him.
However, Silver Gunman was not one to sit idly by. Relying on instinct, he fired two shots. Shang Xige barely escaped; both bullets grazed his arms, leaving a sensation akin to fire scorching his skin.
"Silver Gunman, die!" Ignoring the pain from his wounds, Shang Xige furiously swung his dagger.
"Ninth place will always be ninth place; it's an insurmountable hurdle for you. Give up; you can never be my match."
As the dagger rushed toward him, Silver Gunman remained calm. He leaned aside to evade Shang Xige's attack and quickly raised his leg, driving his knee into Shang Xige's abdomen.
"Damn it! Do you think fifth place belongs solely to you?" Shang Xige was knocked back a few steps but charged forward again with his dagger, shouting angrily, "I just need to take you down tonight, and I will replace you!"
"You sure have a big mouth. Fine, after tonight, Blood Butcher will disappear from this world." A hint of disdain appeared on Silver Gunman's lips as he remembered that the bullets in his silver gun were spent. He promptly removed the magazine and replaced it with a new one from his waist, executing the motion with remarkable speed and skill.
Just as Shang Xige was about to close in again, Silver Gunman aimed at him once more. Without hesitation, Shang Xige threw his dagger. The blade shot out swiftly.
It was too sudden; Silver Gunman did not expect that Shang Xige would throw away his only weapon. Caught off guard, he quickly withdrew his hand and spun in mid-air. Although he managed to dodge the flying dagger, he could not avoid Shang Xige closing in on him.
"Silver Gunman, die!"
As he landed, Silver Gunman deftly swung his silver gun and pulled the trigger. Shang Xige dodged to the side just in time and kicked out forcefully at Silver Gunman's hand. The kick was powerful enough to make Silver Gunman lose grip of his gun, which fell into the nearby bushes.
"Hmph, I didn't expect you'd be willing to throw away your dagger." Silver Gunman's gaze turned cold as he engaged in hand-to-hand combat with the approaching Shang Xige.
Being ranked fifth on the assassin list meant that Silver Gunman possessed not only a fearsome silver gun but also impressive close-combat skills that often went unnoticed compared to his firearm.
Few had witnessed Silver Gunman's fighting techniques; most only knew him as someone who would strike fear with his silver gun.
Shang Xige was able to force the Silver Gunman to drop his silver gun, winning by surprise. If the Silver Gunman lost his weapon, then Shang Xige would have a much greater chance of victory.
"Hehe, I never expected I could force the Silver Gunman to drop his silver gun. I feel quite honored. Can you guess how I'm feeling right now?" Shang Xige asked himself, a smirk on his face as he continued, "I'm feeling great, haha... If this gets out, I'll be famous!"
"You can still talk now, but soon enough, I’ll make sure you won't be able to say another word," Silver Gunman replied coldly, his gaze sharp like a sword. He sneered, "Once I kill you, fame won't matter anymore."
"Then let's see your skills," Shang Xige said as he blocked a kick from Silver Gunman and returned with a punch, smiling slightly. "I advise you to show your abilities quickly. If my boss arrives later, you might not live much longer!"
When Shang Xige mentioned "boss," Silver Gunman's expression changed dramatically as he recalled another person from the villa earlier, feeling somewhat surprised.
"Who is your boss?"
"Hehe, I didn't expect you to be scared. It's understandable; my boss is quite terrifying. It's normal for you to be afraid," Shang Xige noticed the flicker of fear in Silver Gunman's eyes and scoffed. "If you don't want my boss to deal with you, you'd better take care of me quickly. If you manage to escape after that, you might live a few more days—that's all."
"To the ends of the earth, I vow to send you to your doom!" Shang Xige laughed maniacally.
This was also true; if Mo Ming arrived, Silver Gunman would undoubtedly die because even the second-ranked assassin on the list, Hunter, wouldn't stand a chance against Mo Ming in a one-on-one fight.
In Mo Ming's eyes, Silver Gunman was simply not worth considering.
Silver Gunman's face darkened as he felt intimidated by Shang Xige's words. Regardless of whether that person existed or not, he needed to eliminate Shang Xige quickly. However, in close combat, their abilities were evenly matched, making it difficult for Silver Gunman to kill Shang Xige.
Of course, Shang Xige wouldn't be able to kill him either.
But dragging this out wasn't a solution. If Shang Xige really had a boss, that person would certainly be stronger than him. Whether or not they could surpass him didn't matter; if both attacked together later on, it would be troublesome.
"I can't delay any longer; I need to find a way to deal with this guy." While fighting, Silver Gunman thought of strategies but found them evenly matched. As they fought on, he caught a glimpse of the silver gun lying quietly in the grass under the moonlight, glimmering brightly.
"The only way to turn this around is to seize the silver gun; otherwise, it will be hard to determine the victor in this battle."
Silver Gunman focused intently as he engaged Shang Xige, gradually moving toward the silver gun. With each punch and kick exchanged, neither could gain the upper hand.
In a duel between experts, especially when their strengths are closely matched, determining a victor is not easy. At such times, an elusive factor comes into play—opportunity. Whoever seizes the moment has a chance to win.
Retrieving the silver gun was Silver Gunman's opportunity, but just as he was nearing its position, Shang Xige reacted, attempting to intervene, though it was too late.
“Blood Butcher, you will die!”
Silver Gunman could hardly conceal his joy as he threw a punch that collided with Shang Xige's fist. Both were forced back a few steps, but this brought Silver Gunman even closer. He lunged forward, reaching for the silver gun.
Whoosh!
“Ah…”
A flash of cold light appeared; Silver Gunman failed to grasp the silver gun, and instead, his palm was pierced by a flying knife. That knife had been thrown by Shang Xige, who had a belt full of gleaming silver blades.
In pain, Silver Gunman did not give up and extended his other hand.
Another whoosh sounded.
“Ah…”
The other hand of Silver Gunman was also pierced by a flying knife. It seemed that Shang Xige had seized the opportunity; throwing the knife in front of Silver Gunman would have been difficult to land and would have put him on high alert.
Until the right moment arrived, Shang Xige would not easily reveal this secret weapon.
“It’s best if you don’t move again; otherwise, next time, the knife will strike a vital spot. If you are absolutely confident, feel free to try moving again,” Shang Xige said as he drew three more knives and held them in his hand with a cold gaze. If Silver Gunman dared to make any rash movements, he would throw them without hesitation.
Indeed, at such close range, Silver Gunman lacked the confidence to evade.
"Alright, I won't move, and you shouldn't either. We're all just trying to make a living; there's no need for it to come to life or death."
Shang Xige smiled and shook his head, saying, "Why didn't you say that earlier? Unfortunately, I'm not here for money; I'm on a mission. Your mission is essentially a death sentence, do you understand?"
"I don't understand what you mean." Silver Gunman dared not even breathe heavily, which showed that he still valued his life.
"The meaning is simple: you shouldn't have taken this mission, and you definitely shouldn't harm Murong Lian!" Mo Ming's voice suddenly rang out. Silver Gunman looked over in surprise at the source of the voice and saw a young man slowly approaching.
"Who are you?!"
Under the moonlight, Mo Ming revealed a sinister smile, resembling a werewolf boy, his voice echoing as if it came from the depths of hell.
"Silver Gunman, take a good look at me."
Silver Gunman carefully scrutinized him and suddenly realized, his face filled with shock as he exclaimed, "You're the boy that Sito Hai wants to kill, Mo Ming! How is that possible? Sito Hai didn't mention your background; who exactly are you?"
"You don't need to care about who I am," Mo Ming replied lightly with a smile. "You only have two choices: either die or take me to see Sito Hai. Choose wisely; I hope you pick the latter. Otherwise, you might find yourself wishing for death."
