"Luo Zihong, is that you?"
The beautiful Female Officer in front of him was indeed Luo Zihong. At that moment, she was wearing a dark blue police uniform and a police cap. Her curvy figure completely concealed by the oversized uniform, she held a pistol in both hands, the muzzle naturally aimed at Mo Ming.
Seeing an old acquaintance, Mo Ming forced a smile and shook his head, thinking he could relax for a moment as he had just started to lower his hands.
"Don't move! Raise your hands!"
Luo Zihong's reaction was intense as she disengaged the safety on her gun, seemingly worried that Mo Ming might pull some trick. After all, she had witnessed Mo Ming take down three armed robbers herself; it was better to be cautious.
Mo Ming had no choice but to raise his hands again, looking somewhat distressed. "I mean, can you tone down your reaction? We know each other, and besides, I'm your classmate's bodyguard. Do you really need to treat me like this? Just engage the safety and be careful not to fire accidentally!"
"Stop whining! Even if you're Murong Lian's bodyguard, don't think I'll go easy on you. Hmph! I, Luo Zihong, am very clear about public and private matters. Now get against the wall! Hurry up and don’t try anything funny, or I’ll shoot you in the head!"
Luo Zihong gestured for Mo Ming to quickly press himself against the wall. Faced with the threat of her gun, Mo Ming had no choice but to comply and wait for Luo Zihong's next move.
"This is ridiculous; I haven't done anything wrong. Why do I feel like I'm about to be..." Mo Ming felt a bit frustrated. Just as he thought this position made it seem like he was about to be searched, he felt a delicate hand touching him.
"Hey, beautiful, don’t touch me like that! Be careful not to fire!"
Behind him, Luo Zihong held her gun aimed at him with one hand while using the other to search him. She thoroughly checked him for any dangerous weapons before finally pulling out handcuffs and securing his hands.
"Turn around!"
Mo Ming turned around reluctantly, looking at the serious expression on Luo Zihong's face. The dark muzzle of her gun still pointed at him as he raised his cuffed hands slightly.
"I'm a law-abiding citizen! Cuffing me without reason is an insult to my character. I can report you to your superiors."
Luo Zihong sneered. "Go ahead and report me if you want. This is how I operate—better to arrest the wrong person than let a guilty one go free. You came out of the warehouse suspiciously; I have reason to suspect you're part of the human trafficking gang inside. Now I'm placing you under arrest."
"Since you've already arrested me, there's no need for all that official talk."
Mo Ming was truly frustrated to the extreme. This girl had a stubborn personality and a straightforward mindset; once she set her mind on something, it would never change. She simply thought Mo Ming was suspicious, and unless he provided evidence to clear his name, he might as well prepare for jail time.
"Your spirit is commendable; not letting any crime go unpunished is what society needs. However, you need to adjust your approach. Criminals must be caught, but blindly arresting people can lead to wrongful convictions. Do you understand?" Mo Ming said with a bitter smile. "In short, I haven't committed any crime. I'm not your suspect, believe it or not."
Luo Zihong shot Mo Ming a glance and scoffed, "I really don't believe you. If you weren't a criminal, why were you sneaking out from inside?"
"I was just following the spirit of helping others like Comrade Lei Feng, doing good deeds without seeking recognition. Is that not acceptable?" Mo Ming protested loudly, feeling wronged. In this day and age, doing good deeds had turned him into a villain; how could he dare to help others in the future?
"Save your words for later. Right now, I have reasonable suspicion that you are involved with the scum who traffics minors. Enough talk; hurry up and move," Luo Zihong insisted.
Luo Zihong only believed what she saw. Since he had come out sneakily from inside, he was suspicious no matter what he said. After finishing her words, she pushed Mo Ming back toward the entrance.
"Zihong, how did you get in there?"
At that moment, Haotian arrived with several people, a slight smile on his face. But when he saw Mo Ming in handcuffs, his expression changed immediately. He frowned and asked, "Mo Ming, what's going on?"
"Captain Hao, as you can see, I've become a suspect in this girl's eyes again," Mo Ming replied with a bitter smile. "I am truly innocent in this matter. Captain Hao, you're wise and capable; please help me persuade this girl to be less stubborn."
Haotian looked seriously at Luo Zihong and asked, "Zihong, explain to me what's happening here."
"Don't listen to this guy's nonsense. If there wasn't an issue, I wouldn't have handcuffed him for no reason. While you were cutting the door earlier, I was worried the suspect might escape, so I kept watch nearby and ended up catching this big white rabbit," Luo Zihong explained while glaring at Mo Ming.
Big white rabbit? Does this guy think I look like a big white rabbit? What an international joke! If we're going to compare me to an animal at least make it something fierce like a wolf!
Mo Ming was utterly frustrated and calmly said, "In any case, I'm not a criminal; do as you see fit."
"Don't worry; I always emphasize evidence in my work. If you truly haven't done anything wrong, after giving your statement at the police station, you'll be free to go. I will never make things difficult for good people," Haotian said with a slight smile. "So let's bother Brother Mo to come with me to the police station for some tea and a chat."
Mo Ming found Haotian quite friendly and smiled back. "Now that's more like it! Alright then, I'll go have some tea and chat with you."
"Let's go! Do you want me to push you out?" Luo Zihong pushed Mo Ming lightly and said irritably.
"I don't need you to push me. I'm not a three-year-old child; I can walk on my own!"
Mo Ming walked towards the entrance with Haotian and the others. The girls had already been rescued and were likely in the police car, while the human traffickers were all apprehended and taken away in a police van. Pockmarked Face was the last to be carried out by two officers.
At the entrance, an anxious Li Xiulan was looking around the warehouse. When she saw Mo Ming, a smile appeared on her face, and she rushed over with concern, asking, "How are you? Those scumbags didn't do anything to you, right?"
"The scumbags didn't harm me, but that beautiful police officer back there arrested me and put handcuffs on me. Don't you think that's unfair?" Mo Ming said with a bitter expression, shaking the handcuffs on his wrists.
Upon hearing this, Li Xiulan immediately explained for Mo Ming, "I'm sorry; you got it wrong. He is not a human trafficker. If it weren't for him, I and those girls would have been sold off long ago. You really misunderstood."
After listening to Li Xiulan's words, Luo Zihong began to believe that Mo Ming was innocent and felt a bit ashamed. However, to cover up her embarrassment, she insisted, "Hmph! Who told him to act sneaky and try to slip away? It's impossible not to misunderstand him."
Haotian frowned and shot an annoyed glance at Luo Zihong before apologizing to Mo Ming. "It seems we really made a mistake. On behalf of my subordinate, I apologize to you. I hope you're not angry."
"It's fine; I'm used to it anyway," Mo Ming replied with a smile, waving the handcuffs for Luo Zihong to see. "Beautiful Officer, could you please unlock these handcuffs for me? Also, I want to hear your apology."
"You're impossible! You won't get my apology!" Luo Zihong threw the key for the handcuffs at him. The key hit Mo Ming but then disappeared somewhere; in fact, he could have caught it but was too lazy to do so.
Haotian could no longer tolerate Luo Zihong's attitude and scolded her, "Zihong, you're going too far. You misunderstood him; he doesn't hold it against you. What's wrong with asking for an apology? You're really disappointing me. When we get back, write a long reflection letter for me; otherwise, I'll transfer you to the documentation team to handle paperwork."
"I'm sorry!" Luo Zihong said with a slightly aggrieved expression. After staring at Mo Ming for a moment, she reluctantly apologized. However, her "I'm sorry" sounded more like "I did nothing wrong," lacking any sincerity.
Mo Ming wanted to tease Luo Zihong a bit so she would learn not to wrongfully accuse people again. He smiled and said, "It seems there's no sincerity in that; it's hard for me to accept your apology like this."
"Bastard! I've already apologized; whether you accept it or not is none of my business!"
After saying this, Luo Zihong ignored Haotian's expression and walked straight out of the warehouse. Mo Ming could only smile wryly at her reaction; her attitude hadn't changed at all and probably never would.
"Why is this girl so stubborn? It's driving me crazy," Haotian exclaimed, feeling as if he might explode from frustration. He sighed heavily and bent down to look for the key to unlock Mo Ming's cuffs, but he had no idea where the key had fallen.
Seeing Haotian struggling to find the key, Li Xiulan also crouched down to help. Just as she did, there was a sound of chains breaking, and they both watched as the handcuffs fell to the ground, already broken.
"Captain Hao, I'm sorry. I got a bit anxious and broke your handcuffs. You don't mind, do you?" Mo Ming said with a slight smile. "How much do these handcuffs cost? I'll pay you for them."
"Uh... it's fine, it's fine. If they're broken, they're broken. Besides, we can't find the key anyway," Haotian replied, standing up in surprise as he looked at Mo Ming, finding it hard to believe how this seemingly young boy managed to do that.
"How did you do that?" Li Xiulan asked in disbelief.
"I don't know, maybe the handcuffs were just faulty. I only pulled a little, and they broke like this," Mo Ming feigned ignorance and said to Haotian, "Captain Hao, next time you should buy better quality handcuffs. Now that everything is clear, can I leave?"
If the handcuffs were of poor quality, that would be a serious issue; it could lead to corruption reaching the police station. Only the two officers who witnessed Mo Ming break free realized that these sturdy iron cuffs could be snapped open with just his hands!
"Now that everything is clear, you're no longer a suspect. Technically, you can leave if you want. However, I still hope you can come back to the station with me; we need you to clarify some things. Don't worry; consider it an invitation for tea. After that, you can go," Haotian said with a slight smile.
Mo Ming shrugged nonchalantly and replied, "If that's the case, then let's go have some tea at your place. But I hope this matter doesn't get out; I really don't want people suspecting me of a crime."
"Haha, of course! Just think of it as friends getting together for a chat; it has nothing to do with any crime!"
