"I heard that the Dreamland Men's Shoe Store has received a new batch of goods. Let's go check it out." Murong Lian walked ahead on the street, while Mo Ming followed behind, carrying a pile of clothing bags on his shoulder, moving slowly with an expression full of reluctance.
The distance between them grew larger, and Murong Lian couldn't help but turn back, walking over to Mo Ming's side and saying, "Can you hurry up? Are you buying shoes or am I? You look like someone whose wife just died!"
"Don't say that; it really does seem like you're the one buying. You look so energetic. Are you sure it's me buying shoes?" Mo Ming replied with some doubt.
"Of course it's you!" Murong Lian said again. "But after we buy the shoes, you have to accompany me to the Golden Fortune Jewelry Store. I heard they have a new batch of jewelry, and I want to take a look."
As soon as she said this, Mo Ming immediately looked dejected and pleaded, "Miss, please let me off!"
"No way! Today my dad told me to take you shopping, and you were so pleased about it. Now I'm going to fulfill your wish and make sure we shop enough!" Seeing Mo Ming's mournful face, Murong Lian finally felt a sense of satisfaction. Ignoring Mo Ming's protests, she tugged at the corner of his shirt and pulled him forward, like walking a little dog.
Truly, the heart of a woman can be the most ruthless!
What happened in the morning still lingered in Mo Ming's mind; he finally realized that Murong Lian was clearly seeking revenge.
Mo Ming inadvertently glanced ahead and noticed that the Golden Fortune Jewelry Store was right in front of them.
"Wait a minute." Mo Ming stopped, and Murong Lian couldn't pull him any further.
"What’s wrong? Want to go back? Don't even think about it; today we won't leave until I'm satisfied," Murong Lian said without knowing what Mo Ming meant, blocking his path.
"No, I think we should go directly to Golden Fortune. Once we buy what we need, we can leave. Shoes can be bought anytime; if we delay with your jewelry, all the good pieces will be snatched up by others."
After hearing this, Murong Lian thought for a moment, nodded in agreement, and said, "Fine, I'll give you credit for being smart. Let's go directly to Golden Fortune then. As long as I'm satisfied with what I find, we can leave afterward. After all, the shoes are yours; buy them if you want."
Mo Ming happily nodded vigorously and said, "Okay, I won't buy shoes anymore."
With that, Murong Lian led Mo Ming into the Golden Fortune Jewelry Store. The waitress at the entrance greeted them with her signature smile and said, "Welcome! Sir and Miss, are you looking for wedding rings? If so..."
Waitress initially thought that Murong Lian would be very happy, after all, women love to hear the words "wedding ring." Moreover, Murong Lian was accompanied by Mo Ming, which easily led to misunderstandings of them being a couple; age-gap relationships are quite common.
Murong Lian seemed a bit displeased and said, "I don't need a wedding ring!"
"Uh, I'm sorry. It seems I misunderstood. I truly apologize," Waitress quickly said. "Then may I ask what kind of jewelry such a beautiful lady is looking for?"
"I heard that your store has just received a new batch of jewelry. I would like to take a look," Murong Lian replied.
Waitress maintained a smile and said, "Sure, please follow me."
Leading the way, Waitress guided Murong Lian and Mo Ming to a counter. "This is all our new jewelry. I hope you like it," she said before returning to the entrance to greet other customers.
At the counter stood another salesgirl, who was much more attractive than the previous one. She still wore her signature smile, her lips curving upward. Upon seeing Murong Lian and Mo Ming, she warmly greeted them, "Hello, esteemed lady! All the jewelry here has just arrived and hasn't been purchased yet. You can take a look at this necklace designed by the renowned jeweler Alice specifically for elegant ladies. It's made entirely of handcrafted pure platinum and is perfect for someone with your taste." As she spoke, the salesgirl took out a necklace and placed it on the table.
"Mo Ming, do you think this necklace looks good on me?"
Mo Ming, who was sitting in a chair swaying back and forth while looking around, turned his head upon hearing Murong Lian's question. At that moment, Murong Lian had put on the necklace around her neck, enhancing her already noble aura; she looked incredibly charming.
However, Mo Ming could not tell her the truth. He cleared his throat a few times and said, "Do you want me to be honest?"
"Of course! Why would I want to hear you lie?" Murong Lian shot him an annoyed glance.
Mo Ming shook his head and replied, "The necklace is beautiful, but on you, it pales in comparison; it looks no different from something you'd find at a street stall."
"You've got some nerve!" Murong Lian suppressed her anger as she put the necklace back down and pointed to another piece of jewelry. "I don't want this necklace anymore; show me that one instead."
At that moment, Mo Ming unexpectedly chimed in, "Why not? I was just teasing you earlier; actually, you look even more enchanting with that necklace on."
"Mo Ming, I'm really feeling an impulse to strangle you right now." After hearing his words, Murong Lian glared at him with gritted teeth. Mo Ming merely shrugged and shifted his gaze elsewhere.
Just as Mo Ming looked towards the door, he suddenly saw a van screech to a halt outside. Before the vehicle had even stabilized, the door swung open, and three men wearing ghost masks rushed in, guns in hand.
Everyone noticed this scene and began to panic, scrambling to escape.
"Ah! It's a robbery!"
"Everyone get down and don't move!"
"If anyone dares to call the police, I'll shoot them on the spot!"
"Bang!" A gunshot rang out, and one of the robbers wearing a Yama mask shot dead a man who had just attempted to press the alarm. With a fierce expression, he said, "I told you, if anyone dares to call the police, I'll shoot them. You think I'm joking?"
"Ah..."
"That's your fate. I only seek money and don't want to take lives, but if anyone dares to be disobedient, I won't hesitate to send them to meet the real Yama." The robber with the Yama mask pointed his gun around and commanded, "Everyone get down and put your hands on your heads."
Murong Lian was already terrified by this scene. In a panic, she quickly crouched down with her hands on her head. Mo Ming crouched beside her, hands on his head as well, but his expression remained calm; he seemed not afraid at all.
The fear in everyone's hearts made them obediently crouch down with their heads held, fearing that if they displeased the robbers, they would be treated as live targets.
Mo Ming held his head down and noticed that Murong Lian was extremely frightened, her body trembling uncontrollably.
He never expected that a strong woman in business could show such vulnerability. Mo Ming gently placed his hand on Murong Lian's shoulder. She looked at him in panic, her beautiful eyes almost brimming with tears.
"Don't worry, it's going to be fine. You have me as your bodyguard," Mo Ming said with a confident smile. Seeing the determination in the boy's eyes calmed Murong Lian somewhat; she nodded in belief.
In her heart, she seemed to trust that this slender boy would protect her well.
"My boss said to behave yourself. What are you moving for? Are you looking for death?"
The action caught the attention of the robber wearing the Horse Mask. The Horse Mask robber approached and struck Mo Ming on the mouth with the butt of his gun, causing Mo Ming to stagger to the side.
"Ah!"
Murong Lian saw Mo Ming's face swollen from the blow, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth. Terrified, she covered her ears and shook her head vigorously, tears streaming down her face as she felt helpless and scared.
The Horse Mask robber noticed that Mo Ming spat out a mouthful of blood but was surprisingly smiling. This expression infuriated him. He pointed his gun at Mo Ming and shouted, "What are you smiling about, kid? Are you tired of living? Do you want to die?"
Whoosh!
A flash of killing intent flickered in Mo Ming's eyes. Before the Horse Mask could react, Mo Ming moved unexpectedly, grabbing the gun's barrel. As the Horse Mask robber panicked and attempted to fire, Mo Ming had already maneuvered the gun to point at the ceiling, and bullets fired off into it.
"Ah!"
"Third Brother, what's going on?"
The other two robbers, who were busy stuffing jewelry into bags, turned in surprise at the sound of gunfire and found the Horse Mask raising both hands in surrender, his gun nowhere to be seen.
In an instant, Mo Ming had subdued the Horse Mask robber.
Now hiding behind the Horse Mask, Mo Ming pressed the barrel of his gun against the robber's head and said coldly, "You better not move; otherwise, I'll blow your brains out. Don't doubt my words; I never lie."
"Okay, okay, just don't get excited. Be careful not to fire accidentally," the Horse Mask robber said, now devoid of his earlier bravado. He was terrified; without the mask, his expression would have been quite revealing.
Just moments ago, he had thought of Mo Ming as a harmless youth, but now he realized how capable he truly was—he had become a hostage without understanding how it happened.
As Yama Bandit and Bullhead Bandit witnessed this scene unfold, they aimed their guns at the Horse Mask robber. Unable to see who was behind him, they could only infer that someone was threatening him with a gun.
"Are you a cop?" Yama Bandit asked cautiously.
The robber exclaimed in panic, "Big brother, be careful! Don't shoot! My life is in his hands!"
"Hey, sorry... I'm not a cop!" Mo Ming sneered.
Yama frowned and asked, "Then who are you?"
"I am the robber! Everything has its order. I had my eyes on this jewelry store and was ready to act when you three came and ruined my plans. Now I'm very angry, and the consequences will be severe." Mo Ming's voice grew colder, sending chills down their spines.
"Let's talk this over. As long as you let my brother go, we can give you everything we have. How about that?" Yama thought to himself that as long as the other side dared to release Horse Mask, he and Bullhead would immediately turn them into a porcupine.
"Letting your brother go is possible," Mo Ming replied with a cold smile. "As long as you throw your guns over here, I guarantee your three brothers will be fine. Otherwise, prepare to collect your brother's body!"
Mo Ming's words clearly left no room for negotiation.
Either drop the guns or prepare to collect a body.
