Her surprise turned into anger as she glared at me before turning to leave. Watching her retreating figure brought an inexplicable sense of satisfaction within me. In this silent palace, with its endless days, I had been at a loss for how to pass the time. But now, the moment I saw Xue Fu, my life gained meaning; my purpose in this life was revenge!
Seeing Xue Fu flustered brought me a satisfaction and joy I had never felt before. Wearing a phoenix crown and draped in a colorful robe, I stood in the grand hall, receiving the homage of the courtiers. She reached out and gently embraced me. "Bi'er, don’t cry. From now on, I will protect you well and will not allow you to suffer any harm again."
Leaning against the Empress's embrace, I pretended to wipe away my tears, but deep down, I understood that one could only trust oneself.
I recalled the murderer of my adoptive parents, a surge of hatred rising within me.
Gathering my courage, I looked at her earnestly. "Your Majesty, Xue Fu's brother, Xue Chang, is the enemy who killed my adoptive parents. Though they were commoners, they raised me with kindness. I implore you to take action against him and avenge my adoptive parents."
The Empress paused for a moment, her expression shifting from surprise to complexity as she regarded me. "Child, some matters are not as simple as you think. She has the backing of an entire family; I cannot act against her lightly."
