Evan sat in his spacious and bright office, with the view outside the tall building extending beyond the glass windows, feeling the pulse of the city here.
He glanced around the room, filled with trophies and mementos of his past successful cases.
Evan picked up his phone, hesitated for a moment, and then opened Line. He found Michelle's contact information, and his heart started to beat a little faster.
Should he send a text message or make a phone call? In the end, he decided to send a Line message.
Evan: "Hi, Michelle, this is Evan. I had a great time chatting with you at the wedding last time. Are you free next Friday night? I'd like to invite you to dinner at Blue Moon restaurant."
In less than a minute, Michelle responded.
Michelle: "Hi, Evan! I'm glad you invited me. I'm free next Friday night, and Blue Moon restaurant sounds good. Please send me the address. "
The two of them confirmed the date and time.
Blue Moon Restaurant is a high-end restaurant located in the center of Taipei City, with a modern exterior featuring deep blue glass and golden steel frames.
The interior of the restaurant is elegant, with warm-colored fabric and wooden decorations. Each table is adorned with a lit lemon-scented candle, creating a romantic yet unpretentious atmosphere.
Evan arrives in a business casual outfit shortly after getting off work, wearing a light gray suit jacket paired with a dark purple shirt, exuding a mature yet vibrant vibe.
He arrived first, so he chose a window seat where he could overlook the bustling street below.
Michelle chose a dark blue pencil skirt and beige high heels, showcasing a confident and dignified side of herself. As soon as she entered the restaurant, the waiter led her to the seat where Evan was.
"You look very pretty, Michelle," Evan greeted her as he stood up, the brief physical contact creating a different atmosphere in the air.
"Thank you, you're not bad yourself," Michelle responded, her eyes bright and full of confidence.
"Evan, this place is really nice," Michelle said as she sat down and looked around the entire restaurant.
"I'm glad you like it. The atmosphere here should be suitable for our conversation tonight," Evan responded with a smile.
The waiter brought the red wine they ordered, and the two of them clinked their glasses before starting their dinner.
"Since we are both non-marriage advocates, it seems a bit unusual for us to be dining together, isn't it?" Evan said with a smile after ordering their meal.
Michelle smiled and said, "Maybe we are just two people who like choices and freedom, trying to explore each other."
"Evan, why did you choose not to get married?"
Evan looked at the tableware on the dining table and said, "I have seen too much pain caused by marriage. This made me realize that marriage is not necessarily suitable for everyone."
Michelle nodded, "I understand. For similar reasons, I also watched my mother go through my father's infidelity and eventually live as a single parent. I don't want to go down the same path."
The two locked eyes, and in that moment, they both felt a strong sense of resonance and understanding.
"Evan, I'm glad we have this opportunity to openly share our views on this issue," Michelle said.
"I know, it's rare for anyone to understand." Evan smiled contentedly.
After finishing the first course, Michelle casually mentioned the occasion of their first meeting, which was at a friend's wedding.
"Do you remember Linda and Tom's wedding? I felt like an outsider at that time. Everyone was talking about the beauty of weddings and marriage, but I had no desire to step into the institution of marriage."
Evan smiled and said, "I completely understand. I used to find myself in that kind of situation too. You know, after my parents' divorce, they both remarried and formed new families, but now their new marriages are also facing problems. I also went through a failed relationship. After that, I decided to maintain a skeptical attitude towards marriage and not see it as the only model for love."
Michelle felt a strong resonance, "I feel the same way. My mom has been distressed all day because of my dad's affair, and they didn't divorce for over twenty years, which made me completely lose faith in the institution of marriage."
Then the two of them began to share their past relationship experiences. Michelle mentioned a five-year relationship that ended because the other person was eager to get married, "His family put a lot of pressure on him, thinking that he should get married at a certain age. But I didn't agree, so we ended up breaking up."
Evan then shared a three-year relationship, "That girl is also a very good person, but she has very traditional views on marriage, wanting a perfect family, children, and everything. At that time, I felt that this was not the life I wanted."
Michelle responded with deep emotion, "It seems like we really have a lot in common in this regard."
"Indeed," Evan glanced at his watch. "Wow, time flies. We've been talking for so long already."
"Yeah," Michelle stood up. "I'm really glad to have met someone with similar views on this matter tonight."
Evan also stood up and straightened his suit jacket. "Me too, this kind of deep conversation is rare in my past dates," he said.
The two of them walked out of the restaurant. In the night, the lights of Taipei city were dimming, and the tall buildings and neon lights intertwined to form a picturesque scene.
They walked along the sidewalk to a small park, where several street lamps twinkled, casting light on couples and families spending time inside.
Michelle looked towards the distant skyscrapers and said with deep emotion, "You know, I always feel like these buildings resemble the modern concept of fast-food love. They stand tall, glittering, but also cold and impersonal."
Evan then added, "Just like many people's pursuit of marriage, it may seem perfect on the outside, but inside it may be full of cracks."
Michelle smiled, "I'm really glad to meet you tonight, Evan."
"Likewise," Evan said, glancing at his phone, "It's already late. Shall I walk you home?"
"No need, my house is nearby," Michelle said, "But can we make plans to meet up and chat next time?"
"Of course, I'm really looking forward to it," Michelle waved her hand and leisurely stepped into the night, disappearing under a row of antique bronze street lamps.
Evan watched her figure gradually recede into the distance, feeling as though some kind of emptiness in his heart had been slightly filled.
Back at home, Evan sat at his desk, took out his laptop, and opened a new document. He began to write down the conversation and thoughts he had with Michelle tonight, feeling a strange sense of anticipation for the future.
Meanwhile, Michelle sat by the window at home, looking out at the bustling night scene of Taipei. She took out her phone, found Evan's contact information, and quietly changed it to "special contact."
Both of them realized that this might be the beginning of a non-traditional but more in line with their inner feelings kind of love. They found resonance in the hustle and bustle, and simplicity in the bustling city. Quietly, they planted a seed in their hearts, hoping that it would grow strong in the future.
