She said that was her happiest time.
Not long after I returned to the small town, Lin Yiran found me. She drove a black SUV and stopped in front of me. Lin Yiran exclaimed, "Leaving with nothing?"
"Jiang Hai, what do you think our relationship is?"
"A transaction?"
I smirked, "Lin Yiran, do we even have a relationship anymore?"
Lin Yiran suddenly stood up and turned to walk away.
"Jiang Hai, you will regret this."
I replied calmly, "The biggest regret of my life is knowing you."

Lin Yiran paused, her back slightly trembling.
"Jiang Hai, your mother is gone."
"Once a person dies, they cannot come back. You should look forward."
"I have already bought her a burial plot; consider it our wedding house."
"In the future, whenever you want to see her, you can go anytime."
I said coldly: "Lin Yiran, are you saying that my mother's death is a good thing?"
Lin Yiran turned around and stared into my eyes.
"Jiang Hai, when your mother was alive, she needed a lot of medical expenses every day."
"Now that she's dead, you don't have to suffer for money anymore."
"Isn't that a good thing?"
"Are you going to say something?"
I closed my eyes, not wanting to look at her anymore.
Lin Yiran stomped her foot and strode out. Just like five years ago when I first met her, she carried herself with pride. At that time, I had just obtained my doctorate and had the opportunity to stay at the university. But then I met Lin Yiran.
At a business banquet, I represented the school. Lin Yiran, as the eldest daughter of the Lin family, was the center of attention. She was like the bright moon in the sky, while I was merely a speck of dust. Yet, she looked at me with curiosity, pure and innocent like a fawn.
I knew right then that this woman was not to be trifled with. So, I gave up my chance to stay at the university and chose to leave the academy. However, unexpectedly, Lin Yiran found me again. She was like a cunning fox, constantly sending me gifts. When I refused, she threatened me.
With no other choice, I applied for a job at a High-tech Enterprise. But on my first day at work, I encountered my new boss—Lin Yiran. On that very first day, I learned that my mother had developed Uremia and required a substantial amount for medical expenses. Reluctantly, I sought out Lin Yiran for help. However, she misunderstood my intentions and thought I was just like those who approached her for money.
So she began to torment me madly, humiliating me. I once had a trace of affection for her, but now, everything has passed. This city has brought me nothing but pain. So I chose to leave and return to that quiet and peaceful little town where I grew up as a child. Whenever my mom mentioned the town, her eyes would always light up with a smile.

Lin Yiran said as she took a bracelet out of her bag. My pupils constricted. That bracelet was exactly the same as the one my mom left behind.
