"Judgment Day?" Everyone looked at Nars.
Nars seemed to consider the others in the studio and said to An Xiaotian, "Captain, I think it's time for everyone to gather."
"Oh, come on," Qin Weishan shook his head, not understanding what the taboo was. "If you want to hold a meeting, just say so."
"Well, it's not exactly a meeting," Nars smiled. "I just want to discuss a few other things with everyone besides this."
"Let's have a meal together! We should go out for dinner today!" Lu Sha raised her hand and shouted, having looked forward to this for a long time. She had suggested it many times, and now it seemed like there was an opportunity. "At a dinner gathering, anything can be discussed."
"Let's see how it goes," An Xiaotian said. "I'm just afraid someone won't have an appetite, haha. Alright, everyone go back now; I need to talk with Nars alone for a bit."
An Xiaotian was right. Since Liu Xuan had no appetite all day, Lu Sha's plan for everyone to gather for a meal was likely to fall through. After everyone returned to their rooms that evening, An Xiaotian called Liu Xuan, and the two sat together in the newly opened hamburger shop in the living area, as close as they had always been.
Since Liu Xuan was recruited into the Military Base, the time they spent together had actually decreased rather than increased. In the base, everyone was busy with their own tasks, and Nars, as an advanced talent and noble from another planet, became familiar with Chen Hao's research team and often worked at the institute. Naturally, Liu Xuan wouldn't have much free time either.
Such a peaceful night alone together had become increasingly rare after everything they had been through together.
"Missing university life?" An Xiaotian asked as he requested a packet of ketchup for Liu Xuan. While waiting, Liu Xuan gazed at the streetlights outside the glass wall. An Xiaotian's eyes met Liu Xuan's reflection in the glass, sensing his brother's thoughts.
"Not really," Liu Xuan replied as he turned back and took the ketchup packet from An Xiaotian. As he tore it open, he said, "Even if I could go back to studying now, I wouldn't have the money to support myself anymore. You know my family situation."
An Xiaotian chose not to say much on this topic. Liu Xuan had lost a complete family at such a young age due to his father's car accident and his mother's poisoning by Xiu Sha. Living in the base was a pain that An Xiaotian could not fully understand.
"But it's okay," Liu Xuan said lightly with a smile as he picked up the straw and started sucking up the ketchup that had been squeezed onto the lid. To stimulate his appetite, he could only start with some ketchup for now.
"I have Ma Yihan, I have you, and I have Nars and everyone else. You all care about me, right? Besides, that Lu Sha came from an orphanage; she's worse off than I am, haha..."
With the straw in his mouth, Liu Xuan spread his hands toward An Xiaotian. Just as he laughed a few times, he was suddenly choked by the strong sourness of the ketchup and began coughing violently. Having grown up with Liu Xuan, An Xiaotian could easily see through Liu Xuan's sadness; he remained silent and did not pat Liu Xuan's back but instead handed him some napkins.
After taking the napkins, Liu Xuan bent down under the table and wiped his nose before sitting back up.
"What do you have to hide when you're with me?" An Xiaotian spoke up; he knew that Liu Xuan had just wiped away tears.
"I..." Liu Xuan sighed and conceded. "Sometimes I really want to go back to living like a normal person."
"Actually, everything comes naturally," An Xiaotian said. "The way things are now is the best arrangement. We cry and feel sad because we think what we've lost is unworthy or shouldn't have happened, but what we will gain in the future is our ultimate destination."
"Yeah..." Liu Xuan put down the straw and finally mustered up the courage to eat a French fry.
An Xiaotian watched Liu Xuan who was looking down in silence; beneath his seemingly calm exterior lay a mix of emotions. He understood that both Liu Xuan and Earth were lucky ones chosen by fate.
He always felt that as a soldier becoming this kind of warrior and taking on such responsibilities was something he would never shy away from; but what about Liu Xuan? He had every right to enjoy an ordinary life yet fate had ruthlessly stripped that away from him.
An Xiaotian believed that Liu Xuan must have regretted his decision to save Nars; it completely changed his life. In facing life's upheavals, some people would lament life's impermanence while others would destroy their remaining years out of anger; yet some would calmly embrace everything that had come their way and stand ready for the future. Liu Xuan was actually a combination of these three responses—he was neither a saint nor a coward—but at least he bore all of life's joys and sorrows alone. Moreover, after accepting Nars into his life, beneath his calm expression were words that always revealed his worries about the world.
An Xiaotian watched everything unfold before him. The once insecure boy who needed protection had grown up completely, ready to guard a larger world alongside his brother.
They had both lost much, but it was precisely that pain that gave their lives meaning, allowing the two brothers to stand shoulder to shoulder on ever higher peaks, contemplating the cosmic truths that ordinary people could never grasp.
"What's wrong?" Liu Xuan noticed An Xiaotian's sudden silence and waved his hand. "You ordered this double meal, knowing I wouldn't have an appetite today. You deal with it."
"I'm just hoping your appetite improves," An Xiaotian replied, pulling his thoughts back. He glanced at the food and said, "Alright, let's get down to business. You wanted to discuss the transfer, right? You talk, and I'll handle the eating."
Liu Xuan looked at the table full of food, picked up a nearby egg tart, hesitated for a moment, then popped it into his mouth. After all, with so much food, An Xiaotian wouldn’t be able to finish it all. Liu Xuan suppressed the nausea in his stomach as he chewed and said, "In Wang Hao's statement, 'Judgment Day' is the flagship of their expedition fleet, the largest battleship. Nars mentioned that due to 'Judgment Day's' enormous size, it couldn't fit inside the Moon. Ban Sa had his subordinates place it in anti-space until they retrieved it near Saturn's satellite."
"Anti-space?" An Xiaotian asked curiously. "What is that?"
Nars explained from a micro perspective: "When a particle falls into a quantum domain and collapses infinitely, it eventually triggers reverse expansion at the final singularity, creating a new realm. Imagine fixing a circle at a point on a two-dimensional plane and then dragging it closer to that point until it shrinks down completely. When you pull it back in the original direction, it expands into another symmetrical circle in the opposite direction. The same applies in three dimensions." Liu Xuan gestured with his hands, forming a shrinking ball that eventually turned into two fists pressed together before expanding outward.
"Theoretically, every anti-space is an infinitely large space," Liu Xuan continued, his left eye shining as Nars suddenly chimed in to explain to An Xiaotian. "This is the latest research field for us Kumul over the past few decades. We discovered anti-space around Kumul—the Moon—by tearing through space. This vast space originates from our planet's core, where material collapse is most active."
"Oh my..." Faced with this information, An Xiaotian felt both amused and bewildered as a soldier who only knew how to wield a gun. "What do I know about all this?"
"Haha, you're not just any soldier; you're a captain," Nars said respectfully with a smile. "It's okay if you don't understand; I just wanted you to have a more intuitive grasp of the size of the 'Judgment Day' starship."
"And then?" An Xiaotian asked.
"Then Ban Sa's Sun System army embarked on their expedition under the command of 'Judgment Day.' Their goal was to search for Chaos Crystals while expanding and colonizing other civilizations. However, Chaos Crystals have now fused with Miao Chengmin, and Life Crystals are in Ban Sa's hands. He knows what will happen if he manages to obtain both crystals; if successful, he will become the true god who establishes Cosmic Order—controlling everything from the Divine Realm of Layer Two Yulou to the demonic realms of Layer Negative Two—deciding the existence of all life and non-life at will without anyone being able to rival him."
"The entire universe will become his slave."
Nars met An Xiaotian's gaze seriously while taking a sip of cola from the table—
"Pfft!" Nars couldn't hold back and sprayed cola everywhere but thankfully managed not to hit An Xiaotian's face; however, the table full of food was ruined.
"What is this? Are you drinking motor oil?" Nars wiped his mouth and added, "I saw Liu Xuan drinking earlier and thought it was something good."
"Hahaha, sorry for scaring you," An Xiaotian said thoughtfully as he stood up to wipe off the table. "That kind of ruined the mood... haha..."
"Ah well, it's such a shame about our food," Nars pointed at the burgers on the plate.
"It's fine; during my special training years ago, I even ate grass trampled by dogs. Am I really going to complain about this?" An Xiaotian said while patting his military badge on his chest. "Alright, let's continue."
Nars nodded but then pressed down on An Xiaotian's hand as he reached for where he had spilled cola on himself. An Xiaotian looked into Nars' moonlight-colored eyes and after a moment of surprise understood and sat back down.
"We're both warriors; there's no need for such formality," Nars said. "Liu Xuan has matured too; we can handle these little things ourselves, right?"
An Xiaotian understood what Nars meant and smiled but felt an inexplicable sense of loss rising within him. Perhaps it was akin to a large bird raising its young—watching its child emerge from under its wings and soar into the blue sky brings anticipation and joy but also leaves behind a tinge of sadness.
"The enemy fleet has returned, which means our preparations have entered the final countdown," Nars said, getting back on track. "Based on my previous research on Interstellar Navigation, the fastest and most economical mode of space travel we have right now—the 'Water Drift' style of ballistic leap—from the Moon to the edge of the Sun system would take... five thousand one hundred Earth hours." Nars calculated in his mind. "If there are no unexpected events like the zombie war during this time, I think..."
"Not enough," An Xiaotian interrupted Nars. "Seven months. Just for the Human Enhancement Project for Lu Sha, waiting for approval for research funding alone takes a month. Even if all projects proceed simultaneously, not to mention manpower and material issues, just the simple accumulation of time exceeds seven months of preparation time."
Nars wanted to say something but merely picked up his cup of cola and examined it closely.
"Whatever projects can be completed will have to be done," An Xiaotian sighed. "What else? The transfer issue you mentioned?"
"Yes," Nars replied. "The year before last, when Liu Xuan and I found Dr. Xu, we encountered a mysterious family—the Song Family."
"Song? Song Mengxian?" An Xiaotian asked.
"How do you know?"
"This elder, according to General Jiang's recollection, once visited the Military Base in City S and spoke to him about you."
"Well..." Nars leaned back in his chair. "He knows of my existence and the history of the Abyss Titan. My idea is to seek refuge with the Song Family."
"Why? There are many advanced resources here," An Xiaotian questioned.
"Think about it. Were only those two people responsible for framing General Jiang?" Nars explained. "Wouldn't those who framed General Jiang also have ulterior motives towards us?"
