Chapter 28: Get Lost
The weather was getting hotter. Aside from the early morning exercisers in the park, by the time the sun climbed to the treetops, most people had already left.
Xiao Yun had been wandering around the park for most of the day, making only one sale and earning twenty dollars. After that, no one came to him for portraits. Realizing there was nothing left to do, he stuffed his hands into his pockets and strolled out of the park, thinking about taking a walk on the street.
As he walked past Nanfeng Road, he heard a sound of mourning coming from a distance. Using his Spiritual Sense, he scanned the area and found that across two streets ahead, there was a large courtyard where a farewell ceremony for the deceased was being held in the main hall.
Who had died? Why were there so many young people attending the mourning ceremony?
With his Spiritual Sense, Xiao Yun quickly discerned that the deceased was actually a young woman. In the center of the hall hung a large photo of her.
In the photo, the woman had a charming face resembling a freshly bloomed begonia flower, her enchanting eyes reflecting spring water, and her red lips curled into a smile. She truly looked like a painting, radiant and captivating.
Below the photo, she lay like an angel amidst a bouquet of flowers, as if she had just fallen asleep, with a faint smile at the corner of her mouth, immersed in a beautiful dream.
How could Heaven take away such a woman’s life? Even if fate played tricks on her, it shouldn’t have snuffed out such a vibrant flower!
Xiao Yun felt a pang of sorrow in his heart and sighed inwardly. Just as he was about to retract his Spiritual Sense, he inadvertently focused his gaze on the young woman and was taken aback—what was going on? Surrounding her body were wisps of faint red vitality swirling around her; she wasn’t truly dead!
This family must be foolish—how could they treat a living beauty as if she were dead? Xiao Yun nearly spat out blood in frustration.
He directed his Spiritual Sense back to her photo. Wait—why did her face look so familiar? Who was she?
Let me think... Xiao Yun furrowed his brows and suddenly realized—oh, it’s her!
Xiao Yun's body trembled slightly, and his expression changed as he finally remembered that this young woman was Feng Wushuang, the famous singer from Galaxy City!
Once he recognized her, Xiao Yun could no longer contain his pent-up frustration and anger!
Over two years ago, Feng Wushuang had come to Jade Maiden Town's Laundry Village for a charity performance organized by Galaxy City. At that time, young people from all around flocked to see the famous beautiful singer perform. The square at Laundry Village was packed with people.
Xiao Yun was quite clever; he carried his sketchpad and climbed to the top of a large tree where he could get close to the stage. When Feng Wushuang took the stage, he perched on a branch, set up his sketchpad, picked up his brush, and quickly drew her portrait.
He was also a fan, holding the portrait he had drawn with excitement, wanting to ask Feng Wushuang to sign it.
As the performance was nearing its end, Xiao Yun suddenly slid down from the tree, hurriedly pushing through the crowd to reach the backstage. Just then, Feng Wushuang came down from the front stage, and two bodyguard-like individuals rushed forward, each holding a fan and fanning her. Xiao Yun mustered his courage and timidly approached her with his drawing board, hoping to ask for her signature as a keepsake.
However, in his flustered state, Xiao Yun accidentally stepped on Feng Wushuang's foot. She let out a sharp scream and slapped him twice across the face.
That wasn't all; she pointed at the two bodyguards and sternly ordered, "Get this brat out of here!"
One of the bodyguards lunged at Xiao Yun, delivering a flurry of punches and kicks that left him dazed. Then, like capturing a chick, they tossed him out the door.
This beating left Xiao Yun bedridden for nearly half a month. Cuihua scolded him day and night, almost to the point of wanting to eat him alive.
This incident shattered Xiao Yun's dreams of being a fan. What kind of star was she? Just a scum of a person. From then on, he hated Feng Wushuang. If he ever encountered her again, he would definitely return those slaps!
However, Xiao Yun could never have imagined that Feng Wushuang was now lying in a flower bed, treated as if she were dead while a memorial ceremony was being held for her.
Was this karma?
To be honest, this woman was indeed stunning; compared to Duan Qingxue, she was hardly inferior!
He could see that most of the young people attending the memorial ceremony were her fans.
What was so great about being a star? Could they compare to hardworking farmers? Without the crops grown by farmers, these people would only have wind to drink and stones to eat.
Xiao Yun despised those who thought themselves superior; in reality, everyone is just divided into two categories: men and women. People are equal; it's just that their roles differ. In this world, we can do without singers but cannot do without those farmers who toil silently to provide sustenance for humanity.
Regaining his composure, Xiao Yun couldn't help but reflect on the unpredictability of life.
Since it had nothing to do with him, he didn't want to waste any more brain cells on it. He turned around and began to walk away.
But after taking just two steps, he stopped again. Was Feng Wushuang really dead? Were they really going to send her off to be cremated? After all, it was a human life; turning a blind eye to death was no different from murder.
Recalling his own grievances, Xiao Yun felt extremely conflicted.
He turned his eyes and suddenly a thought arose in his mind, a cold smile appearing at the corner of his mouth.
Xiao Yun turned back around and strode towards Feng Shuangshuang's house.
After crossing two streets, he quickly arrived at the entrance of the large courtyard. At the door stood a bodyguard dressed in black and wearing sunglasses. Xiao Yun recognized him at a glance; these two bodyguards were the ones who had beaten him up years ago, leaving him bedridden for nearly half a month.
It seemed that this family was not an ordinary one. However, what puzzled Xiao Yun was why, even with wealth and power, they needed two bodyguards standing at the door during their daughter's funeral. Had they done something to offend others and were afraid of disturbances, or were they just trying to show off?
It appeared that the owner of this house was not a good character.
Just as Xiao Yun was about to charge into the courtyard, the two bodyguards shouted almost in unison, "Stop! Who allowed you to come here?"
Uh— it seemed that even those coming to pay their respects had to verify their identities. Xiao Yun couldn't understand why someone who merely sang needed such an imposing presence. He was somewhat baffled by how things had changed these days.
However, Xiao Yun was no longer the honest and simple country boy he used to be. Moreover, he had come here to save someone and had his own little game planned.
He glanced at the two bodyguards from the corner of his eye. With his Spiritual Sense, he could tell that these two were mediocre fighters and were no match for him. Remembering how arrogant they had been back then only fueled his anger further.
"Get out of my way!" Xiao Yun snorted coldly, secretly gathering his energy into his palm. With a swift motion, before the bodyguard could react, he sent him flying like a feather, landing two meters away on the ground.
As long as they dared to attack, he thought with a smirk, he wouldn't mind turning these two into a combination of pig heads and panda eyes right at the entrance of the Feng Family!
