"Is this Black Box for me?"
Lin picked up the Black Box from the table and examined it closely.
"Definitely, bro. Look, there's a note on top," Fatty scratched his head and replied, feeling curious himself. He leaned closer to Lin to see what was inside the Black Box.
The Black Box lay quietly in Lin's palm, about the size of half a hand, with horizontal stripes that resembled an ancient videotape.
"Alright, let me see what my mysterious old man left for me..."
Lin nodded and pressed the power button on the Black Box with his thumb.
"Zzzz..." The Black Box emitted a faint electrical sound, and blue light began to emanate from it. Lin quickly placed the Black Box on the table.
A blue Virtual Screen projected from the Black Box, forming a display screen about half a meter high. The buzzing sound gradually faded away as images began to appear.
Both Lin and Fatty focused intently on the screen, eager to uncover its secrets.
...
As the images opened up, blurry figures began to materialize. It was hard to see clearly, but the shape resembled Uncle Ta.
In Fatty's living room, Uncle Ta had shed his usual disheveled appearance and was staring seriously at the screen. His eyes seemed capable of penetrating through the screen, gazing directly into their hearts.
"It's my old man!" Fatty exclaimed in surprise.
"Shut up!" Lin gave Fatty a light smack on the head to quiet him down. The two continued to watch intently.
In the video, Uncle Ta adjusted the Camera for a better angle before he finally spoke.
"Ryozi, by the time you see this video, I will have left Azure Planet. I believe you have also seen the things I left behind, and there are many questions."
"The things are what I left behind; they hold no special meaning. They are just for you, to give you something to think about."
"Whether you know what I left or not, do not seek the source of those things, do not pursue where we went... unless one of you steps out of the Primitive Star Domain..."
"Take good care of yourselves. Both of you need to be strong. After I'm gone, you must have your own lives. Safety should always come first, no matter what you do."
"That's all I wanted to say. There’s also a video left by Xun Ge for you to watch... consider it a memory, and don’t take it too seriously..."
"Your mother is gone now. You need to take care of yourself and build your own life and family; that is the most important thing. As for everything else, let it go."
The video is quite blurry; it's impossible to see Uncle Ta's face clearly or know his expression when he spoke these words, but his voice sounds heavy.
This is a senior's admonition to the children, like a last will before death.
Fatty feels his throat is a bit hoarse; he senses something unusual in his eyes. Finally, upon watching this segment of the video, Fatty realizes that something is wrong.
It seems like his father is going off to war; what exactly is he doing?
Lin's expression isn't good either; his tightly furrowed brows haven't relaxed.
A night breeze blows in through the window, causing Fatty to shiver as he suddenly feels cold. Lin sniffs and rubs his forehead. After a moment of silence, he raises his head and presses the button to continue playing.
The previous video has ended, and now there’s a distant video from thirteen years ago, when Lin Ta's father left.
The screen shakes as the black display shows the date for half a minute, resembling a documentary.
With a creak... the black screen fades away, revealing the footage.
It was a desolate land that looked like a barren mountain, with black-red soil cracked into large fissures, crisscrossing in every direction. Occasionally, two resilient patches of green could be seen nestled in the cracks.
The scene shook as the camera rotated, then froze in front of a figure.
"Xun Ge! We have a picture!" It was Uncle Ta's voice, sounding lively and not yet as hoarse as it was now.
"Really? We can start recording, right?"
The person on screen brushed his hair and adjusted his clothes, looking much more spirited. He then broke into a smile and raised his head to look at the camera.
Lin Shen took a deep breath; the person on the screen perfectly overlapped with the blurry figure in his memory! No doubt about it, this was his father, Lin Zhongxun!
At that time, Lin Zhongxun looked very young, only around twenty-four or twenty-five years old. His complexion was fair, and he had an elegant demeanor that made him seem less like an Interstellar Warrior and more like a scholar.
"Then it's my turn!"
Lin Zhongxun's voice rang out, deep and magnetic, leaving a comfortable first impression.
Lin's eyes twitched slightly, and his expression suddenly turned grim. This stemmed from his perception of his father—his father was a terrifying person! Just the sound of his voice could evoke fondness; no wonder he became a Captain!
He didn't know what kind of strength his father possessed, but that smile and that voice naturally drew people toward him. This wasn't some form of Martial Arts; it was the innate charm of this person!
He was born to be a dazzling star, possessing a powerful magnetism that attracted people to him.
His father was destined to be a leader.
This feeling was different from what Lü Liang gave Lin; if Lü Liang's leadership quality was admirable, then his father embodied an extraordinary level of charisma!
In that moment of daze, Lin suddenly felt that his father's departure was not as simple as he had imagined. A person with such presence must have gone on to do things beyond his comprehension!
"Cough, cough... When you see this video, it should be more than ten years later. If I haven't returned by then... or if I've died there, only then will you be able to see this."
Lin Zhongxun's special voice woke Lin Jing up, prompting him to quickly refocus on the screen.
"If you see this video, there are a few things you must do. You have to listen to your father; otherwise, it could be detrimental to you, even threatening your life!"
Lin Zhongxun's expression was serious, his eyes filled with helplessness. After a moment, he sighed and said, "I believe you're a big man now and can understand what your father is saying."
"The first thing is to take good care of your mother and yourself. With your father gone, you are the only man in the family; you must take on the responsibility!"
"The second thing is to help your mother run the business well. If you're interested, it would be best if you could inherit your mother's craftsmanship... because that was her lifelong wish. Your father couldn't fulfill it for her, so it has to rely on you!"
Lin Zhongxun's voice was filled with melancholy. For some reason, Lin Jing felt his eyes suddenly wet, and tears began to roll down without him realizing it.
He loved his mother very much and cared for himself as well; it was just that something bound him, preventing him from living alongside them.
"Your mother is dead because of you, do you know that?"
With tears streaming down his face, Lin Jing let out a scoff, unsure whether he was laughing at Lin Zhongxun's words or at his own inability to fulfill them.
In an instant, the atmosphere in the room sank to its lowest point. Fatty pressed his lips together in silence, while Lin Bie turned away and secretly wiped away the tears from the corners of his eyes.
