The old man shook his head and pointed to the north, saying, "The Heavenly Secrets must not be leaked. You only need to remember, do not trust anyone, including... yourself." After saying this, he fell silent, lowering his head to slowly savor his tea.
Zhang Yun felt even more doubtful in his heart, but he knew that if he asked further, the old man would not say much more. He took a deep look at the old man and quickly turned to leave the tea stall.
After leaving the tea stall, Zhang Yun found an inn to stay in. He changed into a plain outfit that was inconspicuous, hid his bundle away, and then went out alone to gather information.
The capital city was still bustling and lively, with people coming and going on the streets, the sounds of vendors calling out and haggling filling the air. However, in Zhang Yun's eyes, behind this prosperous scene lay an indescribable sense of oppression and tension.
He noticed that there were noticeably more soldiers patrolling the streets, each with a serious expression, their vigilant eyes scanning the passersby. Some common folk who usually chatted freely had become taciturn, hurrying past as if trying to avoid something.
Zhang Yun entered a tavern, ordered a pot of wine and a few small dishes, and while eating slowly, he perked up his ears to listen to the conversations of the diners around him.
"Hey, have you heard? Li Gonggong has been getting more and more arrogant lately; even several princes have been put under house arrest by him!"
"That's right! I heard he even took control of the Imperial Guard and has seized the entire palace!"
"Shh! Lower your voice! Are you trying to get us killed? You can't just say such things!"
"Hey, who do you think this world belongs to anyway..."
Upon hearing this, Zhang Yun's heart sank heavily. He knew that Li Gonggong was ambitious and had long coveted the throne; it seemed that he really intended to usurp power!
Thinking of this, Zhang Yun could no longer sit still. He tossed a silver ingot onto the table and hurriedly left the tavern, heading towards the palace. He had to find the emperor quickly and stop Li Gonggong's conspiracy!
However, when Zhang Yun arrived near the palace, he found it surrounded by heavy troops and heavily guarded, making it impossible to approach.
Zhang Yun was extremely anxious as he hid among the crowd, observing the surroundings, hoping to find an opportunity to sneak into the palace.
At that moment, he suddenly heard a commotion coming from the direction of the palace. Immediately after, a group of armored soldiers burst out of the palace gates, killing anyone they saw, and blood flowed like a river.
"Li Gonggong has rebelled! Everyone, run for your lives!"
Someone in the crowd shouted, triggering even greater panic. The people scattered in all directions, and chaos ensued.
Seeing this, Zhang Yun immediately understood that Li Gonggong had launched a coup, and the emperor was in grave danger!
He took a deep breath, his gaze firmly fixed on the direction of the palace, gripping the hilt of his sword tightly.
"Li Gonggong, I, Zhang Yun, will never let you succeed!"
Zhang Yun pushed through the crowd, moving against the flow of people, and rushed toward the palace without hesitation.
He dodged the panicked crowd and the soldiers' pursuit all the way until he reached a side door of the palace. The guards at the side door were relatively weak. Zhang Yun seized the opportunity, leaped up, kicked one guard down, and then rushed into the palace amidst the chaos.
Inside the palace, shouts and sounds of battle filled the air as Li Gonggong's rebels clashed fiercely with the Imperial Guard, and the smell of blood permeated the atmosphere. Zhang Yun avoided the fighting, feeling increasingly anxious; he had to find the emperor quickly or face dire consequences.
Recalling his memories, he navigated through winding corridors until he arrived at the emperor's chamber. Outside the chamber, Li Gonggong's trusted eunuch was leading a group of men, preparing to break down the door.
"Get out of our way! Anyone who dares to stop us will be killed without mercy!" the Eunuch shouted sharply, waving a long sword that glimmered coldly in the candlelight.
"I'll see who dares!" Zhang Yun roared as he charged out from the shadows, knocking the Eunuch's sword away with a single strike before kicking him to the ground.
"Zhang Yun!" The Eunuch was instantly terrified upon seeing him. "You... weren't you sent to pacify the martial world? How could you..."
Zhang Yun ignored him and turned to the several Imperial Guards behind him, saying, "Protect His Majesty!"
"Yes!" the Imperial Guards replied in unison, surrounding the Eunuch and his companions.
Zhang Yun pushed open the door to the palace and quickly stepped inside. Inside, the Emperor sat calmly on the Dragon Throne, watching him with a composed expression.
"Minister Zhang Yun reports, I have arrived late to rescue Your Majesty. Please forgive me!" Zhang Yun knelt on one knee and bowed his head.
