Lin Fan took the helmet and examined it closely. It looked like a virtual reality gaming device from a science fiction movie, but it was crafted with more precision and made from higher-quality materials.
"What is this..." Lin Fan asked, looking at Professor Zhang in confusion.
Professor Zhang explained, "This is a virtual reality game that can simulate real-world scenarios. Lin Fan has scanned all the attractions and facilities of the amusement park into it, so Xiao Tang can fully enjoy the fun of the park inside."
"Wow! That's amazing!" Xiao Tang exclaimed, jumping up excitedly as she snatched the helmet from Lin Fan's hands, eager to put it on.
"Wait a moment, Xiao Tang," Professor Zhang stopped her. "This device hasn't been calibrated yet; it can't be used directly."
Xiao Tang's smile instantly froze, and she asked disappointedly, "When can we use it then?"
Professor Zhang glanced out the window and said, "Don't worry; we'll be there soon."
Outside the window was a desolate scene. The highway was flanked by rolling yellow earth hills, with no signs of human life in sight, only the howling wind echoing in their ears.
As Lin Fan looked at the desolate landscape, a sense of unease crept into his heart; he felt that something was about to happen.
"Screech—"
A piercing screech of brakes suddenly rang out as the camper van came to an abrupt stop. Lin Fan's body lurched forward, nearly colliding with the seat in front of him.
"What happened?" Lin Fan exclaimed.
"It seems... someone is following us," Professor Zhang said with a serious expression, his gaze fixed intently on the rearview mirror.
In the mirror, a black SUV was rapidly closing in on us. The occupants wore sunglasses, obscuring their faces, but the murderous aura emanating from them made Lin Fan realize that they were not friendly.
"Hold on tight!" Professor Zhang shouted, slamming the accelerator. The Camper Van shot forward like an arrow released from a bow.
A thrilling chase ensued.
The black SUV relentlessly pursued us, nearly colliding with the Camper Van several times. Thanks to Professor Zhang's exceptional driving skills, they narrowly avoided disaster. Lin Fan, worried about Xiao Tang's safety, shielded her beneath him while anxiously watching outside. Instead of being scared, Xiao Tang was excitedly screaming, treating the chase as an exhilarating game.
"Wow! This is so exciting!" Xiao Tang clapped her hands in delight, completely unaware of the danger. Lin Fan, however, was pale with fear, holding Xiao Tang tightly to prevent her from getting hurt.
"Professor Zhang, who are they? Why are they chasing us?" Lin Fan asked anxiously.
While concentrating on driving the Camper Van, Professor Zhang gritted his teeth and replied, "They are from the Anti-Zombie Organization. They've been trying to stop my research, and this time they are probably after Xiao Tang."
"Anti-Zombie Organization?" Lin Fan was taken aback, recalling news reports he had seen earlier. This organization believed that all Zombies were a threat to humanity and should be eradicated; their methods were radical and often involved violence.
"Bang!"
A gunshot rang out, and the bullet shattered the rear window of the Camper Van, sending shards flying. Lin Fan felt a sharp pain as blood flowed from his arm.
"Ah!" Xiao Tang screamed in shock at the sudden gunfire and dove into Lin Fan's embrace.
"Damn it!" Professor Zhang cursed angrily, jerking the steering wheel as the Camper Van skidded dangerously on the road, nearly colliding with the guardrail.
"Hold on tight!" Professor Zhang shouted, accelerating again in an attempt to shake off the pursuit of the black SUV.
However, the black SUV relentlessly chased them, seemingly well-acquainted with the Camper Van, knowing exactly how to corner Professor Zhang and force him into a dead end.
Suddenly, a cliff appeared ahead, leaving Professor Zhang in a dilemma with no way forward or backward.
