Skilled at cutting a piece of cooked beef and dipping it in sauce, she placed it in her mouth, where the unique flavor of the beef melted together with the sauce on her taste buds. 0

Most of the food on the dining table was Western cuisine; aside from some unfamiliar dishes, the taste was acceptable. 0

The entire restaurant was silent except for the clinking of cutlery and plates. 0

Baron, who had been deep in thought, seemed to remember something and lifted his head, turning his gaze toward Zhang Lin beside him. 0

“Freya, how is your health?” he asked gently, still holding half a piece of white bread. 0

“I’ve mostly recovered,” Zhang Lin replied respectfully. 0

“That’s good,” Baron nodded, a hint of concern in his eyes. “Your constitution is better than most, but don’t let your guard down. If you need anything, just tell Mary. The territory has been a bit chaotic lately, so don’t go out unless necessary.” 0

“Understood, Father…” Zhang Lin nodded silently, taking in Baron's concern. 0

‘Creak’ 0

The sound of a chair scraping against the floor broke the silence as Baron stood up, putting down his food and casually wiping his mouth with a napkin. 0

He lightly tapped the seat next to him. 0

“Bailey, come to my study after you finish eating.” 0

“Yes…” Howard Bailey nodded without showing any expression, as if he already knew Baron would call for him. 0

Zhang Lin watched Baron's departing figure with a slight frown. Combining this with the fragmented conversations before the meal, she had anticipated that this time’s Refugee Incident was different from usual. Seeing Baron's demeanor made it clear to her that the situation was serious. 0

She quickly thought of several possible scenarios in her mind, but due to the lack of information, she could only make rough guesses. Even if she figured it out, it wouldn't help her given her current situation. 0

The departure of Baron did not affect the others' meals, and soon Howard Bailey also got up to leave. 0

After finishing the food in her hands, Zhang Lin greeted everyone and went straight back to her room. 0

Looking at her familiar bedroom, she closed the door and lay back on her bed. The soft silk bedding enveloped her like flowing water. 0

The tension in her heart gradually eased here. Although she had adapted to her identity since arriving in this world, there was always a sense of incongruity mixed in. 0

In her previous life, she had always been alone, with independence and strength as her only companions. Even after becoming an adult, she had only a few friends she could connect with deeply. But now, suddenly having a stranger care for her so much made the once solid heart slowly melt. It was a strong feeling of unreality. 0

In the memories that did not belong to her, the man's concern and affection for Freya had been deeply imprinted in her heart since she received Freya's memories. Even though Zhang Lin knew she had only met Baron for less than an hour, that feeling seemed to persist even after the original owner of this body had left. 0

Even though she knew this care belonged to the girl who had already passed away, it now descended upon her. 0

"What is the meaning of existence? If a person loses their memory but retains the same body, are they still the same person? Or am I... still me after merging with Freya's memories?" 0

Deep philosophical thoughts swirled in her mind. 0

The ornate Cross Sword hanging on the wall emitted a faint glow under the candlelight. She closed her eyes as memories from two lives spun continuously in her brain, as if experiencing the shared existence of two different bodies. This ethereal feeling felt very natural to her. 0

Suddenly, she opened her eyes; her azure pupils slowly expanded. The two sets of memories seemed to merge in an instant. In her vision, a stubborn girl in tattered clothes and a girl in a white noble gown slowly overlapped until they transformed into her current self. 0

"Since I have inherited everything from you, then I am now Freya, and also 'Zhang Lin'..." 0

Zhang Lin, or now Freya, had come to a realization, and the strange impurities weighing on her heart gradually faded away, leaving behind a sense of fatigue. 0

It felt as if she had been running continuously; the inexplicable mental exhaustion made her instinctively curl up her body and pull the blanket beneath her as she drifted into sleep. 0

The morning sunlight filtered through the mist, casting its glow upon the earth. 0

The castle slowly emerged from the shadows, exposed to the sun. 0

Not far away, loud and orderly shouts echoed, completely waking her up. 0

Rubbing her sleepy face, Freya opened her eyes, a slight pain in her head causing her to frown. 0

She glanced at her clothes; they were the same as yesterday's. 0

"How did I fall asleep?" 0

Having come to terms with things last night, Freya suddenly felt as if her spirit had been drained. The fatigue overwhelmed her, and she fell asleep without doing anything, leaving her puzzled. 0

She touched her head; the faint pain inside not only didn’t hinder her but instead sharpened her mental clarity and thoughts. 0

Details that she hadn’t noticed before now became clear to her, as if she had two minds working simultaneously. 0

Regarding this almost supernatural phenomenon, Freya couldn’t make sense of it; perhaps something had happened last night… 0

Outside, the sound of orderly shouts continued to resonate. 0

That is the guard team training in the morning! 0

Changes in the body are always a good thing. After rubbing her head for a while and letting the faint sting gradually fade away, she casually removed her dress and changed into a simple hunting outfit. 0

Last night, the fragmented words from Baron before dinner left her deep in thought. Although, from her current perspective as the Baron’s most favored daughter, her safety was undoubtedly high, she knew that this place was no longer the kind of world where protection was everywhere like on Earth. 0

This is a world where the strong are respected; without sufficient power, nothing can truly be protected. 0

Although there wasn't much bloodshed in Freya's memories, she witnessed several lives being easily taken yesterday. 0

Even if those people were refugees, and perhaps in others' eyes they deserved to die for infringing upon their own, as a different Freya, she understood that some things, once lost, can never be regained… 0

Pushing open the window, the cool morning air swept away her last traces of drowsiness. 0

In the large circular clearing far from the castle, a team of guards clad in heavy armor was practicing their morning run, while several muscular members were sparring with wooden swords. 0

Even from the third floor of the castle, the sound of wooden swords clashing could be heard. 0

"It’s time to consider strengthening my own abilities!" Freya squinted as she watched everything below. 0
