The three of them walked through the dense forest, with Li Ye leading the team quickly forward thanks to his familiarity with the terrain. Along the way, Specter occasionally appeared ahead to scout and keep watch. Yan Yuchen shared some information she knew about the Shadow Assassins with Li Ye and Zhiruo.
"The Shadow Assassin organization is extremely secretive, with their bases hidden in various concealed locations. Usually, only core members know their exact whereabouts," Yan Yuchen said as they walked. "They act swiftly, excel in stealth and assassination, especially at night, almost without a sound."
Zhiruo curiously asked, "Do they have any weaknesses? Is there any way to deal with them?"
Yan Yuchen nodded. "Although they are skilled in hiding and assassination, their combat strength is not particularly strong in direct confrontations. As long as we can find their hiding places and take them out one by one, there is a chance."
Zhiruo then asked Li Ye, "Brother Ye, why don't you revive more corpses? There was more than just this one Female Assassin yesterday." Her tone carried a hint of jealousy, and her expression showed some dissatisfaction.
Li Ye was taken aback and quickly explained, "The limit of what I can revive right now is one human corpse and two Wolf Corpses. As for why it was this female corpse, that was purely accidental; they were all covered up, so I didn't know it was a female corpse."
Zhiruo pouted and said, "You can't see the face but can see the figure? You're just looking for someone with a good figure!"
Li Ye smiled helplessly. "Zhiruo, that's not what I meant. I really picked randomly and didn't pay attention to those things."
Yan Yuchen watched the two banter playfully and couldn't help but chuckle softly. "You two really have a good relationship." However, she thought to herself how nice it would be if Li Ye could be that close to her as well.
Feeling awkward, Li Ye scratched his head and changed the subject. "Everyone focus; there might be an ambush ahead. Don't let your guard down."
Zhiruo nodded understandingly. She knew the bigger picture was important; although she felt jealous, she couldn't delay Brother Ye's serious matters. Moreover, why should she be jealous of a female corpse? The biggest threat to Zhiruo right now should be Yan Yuchen beside her. Zhiruo glanced at Yan Yuchen and keenly sensed that Yan Yuchen seemed to have feelings for her Brother Ye as well. It dawned on her that what woman wouldn't like a man who had saved her life? Especially since Brother Ye was both handsome and strong.
As they continued on their way, they chatted and laughed, gradually easing the atmosphere.
"Brother Ye, do you remember when we were kids catching butterflies in the mountains? You even fell down while trying to protect me," Zhiruo said.
Li Ye smiled. "Of course I remember. You cried like a little tearful person; I had to work hard to cheer you up."
Yan Yuchen looked at them and smiled. "Growing up together like this is truly enviable."
Zhiruo chuckled lightly but her eyes flashed with pride. "Yes, Brother Ye has always taken care of me."
Li Ye turned to Yan Yuchen and said, "Yen Yuchen, don't be polite. We are partners now, so feel free to ask for help whenever you need it."
Yan Yuchen nodded, her eyes filled with a hint of tenderness. "Thank you, Li Ye. With you all by my side, I feel very at ease."
Zhiruo suddenly spoke up, "Sister Yen Yuchen, you know so much about Shadow Assassins. Do you have some special experiences?"
Yan Yuchen smiled slightly and replied, "I suppose so. We'll talk about it later; for now, let's focus on the mission."
At that moment, Specter appeared and softly growled to Li Ye, who understood that they had already reached the Base's vicinity.
The group immediately reined in their smiles, their expressions turning serious.
Li Ye whispered, "Everyone be careful and act according to the plan we discussed earlier."
Zhiruo nodded. "Understood."
Yan Yuchen tightened her grip on her longsword. "I'm ready."
The air in the dense forest became heavy, and silence enveloped them, broken only by the rustling of leaves in the wind. Specter's figure flickered in the shadows like a moving silhouette. The group moved cautiously, their eyes alertly scanning their surroundings. Li Ye positioned the two women behind him and said, "Specter's agility is excellent; she's best suited for reconnaissance. Stay behind me and don't act recklessly."
Specter soon vanished from sight. Shortly after, two Wolf Corpses appeared beside Li Ye, vigilantly guarding both sides. Before long, Specter returned and conveyed information to Li Ye through telepathy.
With Specter's transmission, Li Ye closed his eyes to carefully receive the information she provided. After a moment, he opened his eyes and quietly said to Zhiruo and Yan Yuchen, "Specter has gathered detailed information about the Base."
The Base is located within a naturally formed cave, its entrance hidden behind dense foliage, making it extremely concealed. Outside the cave are two Sentinels patrolling back and forth; they are dressed in black and remain vigilant at all times. To the left of the cave entrance is a narrow path leading to the back mountain, but it is filled with traps and venomous snakes.
Upon entering the cave, they first encountered a spacious hall filled with various traps; once triggered, arrows and fire oil would shoot out. To the left of the hall is a concealed secret passage that leads directly into the Base's interior. This passage is their only safe route, known only to a few core members.
The Base's interior is divided into three levels:
Level One
This area serves as a resting zone for ordinary members, furnished with many simple beds and storage boxes. A dozen Shadow Assassins rest here, always on standby. The walls are adorned with spare weapons and armor for emergencies.
Second Level
This is the Training Area, equipped with multiple training grounds and a Training Platform. Several elite assassins are training here, with the sounds of blades clashing echoing occasionally. At the end of the Training Area, there is an apothecary dedicated to concocting poisons and treating the wounded.
Third Level
This is the core area of the Base, also the residence of the leader. The leader's room is decorated extravagantly, with banners embroidered with the Black Skull hanging around, showcasing his identity and status. There is also a Secret Meeting Room within, used for plotting various schemes and missions.
The entire Base has a highly secure defense system. In addition to external Sentinels and mechanical traps, several specially trained venomous snakes patrol the cave, possessing extremely keen senses. If any outsiders intrude, these snakes will hiss to alert the assassins. Every corner of the cave is equipped with alarm devices; once triggered, all assassins will immediately enter combat mode.
After receiving this information, Li Ye whispered, "The internal defenses of the Base are tight; we must proceed with caution. First, Specter will draw away the external Sentinels, then we will enter through the secret passage, avoiding mechanical traps as much as possible. Next, we head straight to the core area to deal with the leader first before handling the other assassins."
Zhiruo nodded, "Understood, Brother Ye. We will succeed."
Yan Yuchen also tightened her grip on her longsword and said firmly, "Yes, it is our duty to destroy Shadow Assassin."
Li Ye looked at both of them and silently made up his mind: "Everyone be careful and prepare to act!"
Specter once again concealed himself and began to divert the external Sentinels. Li Ye led Zhiruo and Yan Yuchen, using the cover of night to stealthily approach the Base. As Specter successfully drew away the Sentinels, the three quickly moved toward the secret passage, ready to enter the Base.
