The evil spirit remained motionless, as if in a deep slumber, to the point that Li Ye could not even detect its presence through introspection. Deciding not to dwell on such matters any longer, Li Ye focused on his cultivation. Six years passed in the blink of an eye, and Li Ye was now fourteen.
Li Ye had grown into a handsome young man, tall and slender, with a determined and calm demeanor reflected in his brows. His deep-set eyes seemed capable of seeing through everything, exuding an air of carefree confidence. Despite his young age, he already displayed a hint of leadership qualities.
Zhiruo had also grown to thirteen, transforming into a gentle and beautiful young girl. Her figure was graceful, and her every movement radiated a serene beauty. Her bright eyes sparkled with purity and kindness, and her warm smile felt like a spring breeze, endearing her to those around her.
Over these six years, Li Ye's cultivation steadily improved, reaching the sixth level of Qi Refinement. The power of the evil spirit occasionally surfaced; although it remained dormant for now, Li Ye always maintained a sense of vigilance. Under the guidance of the Heavenly Physician Ancient Scroll, Zhiruo's Herbalist skills became increasingly refined, and her spiritual power reached the fourth level of Qi Refinement.
Every time Zhiruo returned to the village, she would treat some sick villagers. Her gentle demeanor and exceptional medical skills earned her the trust and respect of everyone. The villagers no longer harbored hostility towards her; instead, they expressed gratitude for both her and Li Ye's presence.
One day, Li Ye and Zhiruo exchanged some goods for daily necessities in the village and walked towards the ancient tomb while chatting and laughing. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting dappled shadows on the path, creating an exceptionally tranquil atmosphere. However, this peace was soon shattered.
Suddenly, Li Ye halted in his tracks, his expression changing dramatically as he shielded Zhiruo behind him. He sensed a strong killing intent; tension filled the air. Li Ye quickly summoned two Wolf Corpses. These Wolf Corpses had become even more powerful and terrifying after years of cultivation and evolution. Their bodies were covered in black scales that glimmered coldly between the gaps; their eyes burned with crimson flames, and their sharp fangs and claws were fearsome.
"Zhiruo, stay here; I'll go take a look," Li Ye whispered, his gaze filled with alertness.
Following the killing intent and sounds of battle, Li Ye swiftly advanced to an open area. He saw a young girl fiercely fighting several Assassins in Black. The girl appeared to be around fifteen or sixteen years old, clad in light blue armor that accentuated her slender figure. Her long hair flowed like ink in the wind; her face was delicate yet carried an air of heroism with striking features—especially her bright eyes that conveyed unwavering determination.
The silver-white longsword in her hand shimmered with cold light; each swing was filled with power and grace. The girl moved gracefully like a swift swallow darting through the air—her actions agile yet elegant. Her swordsmanship was both strong and skillful; every move displayed her profound martial arts foundation.
Li Ye watched her with admiration and awe growing within him. This girl not only possessed outstanding looks but also exuded a spirit that rivaled any man’s prowess, leaving one irresistibly captivated.
These black-clad individuals belonged to the lowest tier of assassins within the court's organization known as Shadow Assassin. Although their cultivation levels were low, they made up for it with their numbers and strong organizational structure that allowed them to act covertly.
Seeing this, Li Ye thought that since they were the court's hounds, they must be eliminated entirely. The girl in front of him was full of righteousness, and he wanted to help her. He quickly controlled the Wolf Corpse to join the battle, gently shaking the bell in his hand, producing a crisp and eerie sound.
"Kill!" Li Ye commanded softly.
Two Wolf Corpses lunged at the Assassin in Black with swift movements like the wind. One Wolf Corpse opened its bloody jaws and fiercely clawed at one of the assassins. The assassin couldn't dodge in time and was bitten on the neck by the Wolf Corpse, blood splattering everywhere. The other Wolf Corpse leaped forcefully towards another assassin, its sharp fangs instantly tearing through the opponent's chest.
The girl was momentarily stunned by the appearance of the Wolf Corpses but quickly realized that Li Ye was helping her. She did not stop and continued to wield her longsword, swiftly weaving through the assassins. The sword light flickered, bringing gusts of cold wind, each strike aimed at vital points.
One assassin saw the situation turning dire and attempted to sneak up on the girl from behind. However, it seemed as if she had eyes on her back; with a nimble spin, she slashed her sword across the assassin's throat, causing him to fall instantly. The remaining assassins began to panic as their companions fell one after another but still fought back desperately.
"Brother Ye, be careful!" Zhiruo called out from a short distance away as she saw an assassin launching a surprise attack on Li Ye.
Li Ye snorted coldly, his eyes narrowing as he commanded the Wolf Corpse to quickly block in front of him. Before the assassin's knife could land, it was swatted away by a paw from the Wolf Corpse and crashed heavily to the ground. Seizing the opportunity, Li Ye waved his bell, emitting a strange sound wave that left the assassins dazed. The Wolf Corpses took advantage of this moment to pounce on them, tearing several assassins apart completely.
When the battle ended, only the Wolf Corpses and the girl remained in the clearing. She was panting heavily, her eyes filled with vigilance but also a hint of gratitude.
"Who are you? Why are you here?" she asked coldly, still gripping her longsword tightly.
"We're just passing by and mean no harm," Li Ye explained while admiring her swordsmanship.
"Thank you for saving me; my name is Yan Yuchen." The girl finally lowered her sword, a glimmer of gratitude flashing in her eyes.
Perhaps due to the tension easing after the battle, Yan Yuchen felt dizzy and fainted as her sword slipped from her grasp. Li Ye hurriedly supported her and let her lean against a tree while sitting on the ground, concern evident in his expression. Seeing this, Zhiruo felt a slight tightening in her heart but quickly took out a potion from her pocket and carefully began treating Yan Yuchen.
Moments later, Yan Yuchen slowly awakened. She opened her eyes and saw Li Ye staring at her, her face instantly flushed as she shyly said, "I've troubled you again."
Li Ye smiled gently and replied, "It's only natural for people in the martial world to help each other. Can you tell me why those men in black were attacking you?"
Yan Yuchen lowered her head, a hint of melancholy in her expression. After hesitating for a moment, she slowly spoke, "Actually, my family, Feiyan Villa, was once a secret sect in the martial world, focusing on the inheritance of swordsmanship and lightness skills. However, due to being caught up in the power struggles of the court, we were exterminated many years ago. All my family members met a tragic end, and I was the only one who managed to escape. For years, I have been seeking opportunities for revenge and uncovering the truth behind the destruction of my sect."
Zhiruo listened nearby; although she felt a twinge of jealousy, she felt more sympathy for Yan Yuchen. She softly asked, "So what about those men in black?"
Yan Yuchen sighed and continued, "Those men in black are Shadow Assassins. They have been pursuing me relentlessly, wanting to eliminate me completely. I have been on the run for years, constantly evading them."
Upon hearing this, Li Ye furrowed his brow, a cold glint flashing in his eyes. "The methods of the Shadow Assassins are indeed ruthless. But don't worry; with us here, they won't be able to harm you again."
Yan Yuchen looked at Li Ye gratefully, warmth flickering in her eyes. However, Zhiruo lowered her head beside them, feeling somewhat dejected. She forced herself to appear relaxed and said, "Brother Ye, you take care of Yan Yuchen first; I'll go prepare some medicinal herbs."
Li Ye nodded and expressed his gratitude to Zhiruo for her thoughtfulness. "Zhiruo, thank you for your hard work."
Zhiruo turned to leave but was filled with complex emotions. She knew that Li Ye was a kind-hearted person, but seeing how much he cared for Yan Yuchen inevitably made her feel jealous. As she prepared the herbs, she secretly resolved to become stronger so that she could protect Li Ye in future battles.
