"Boss, I... I can't drink!" A delicate voice came from the corner of the private room, successfully capturing everyone's attention. Dressed in a Chanel haute couture dress, Jenny tugged at Mr. Li's sleeve, looking as if she might cry at any moment. I sat beside Sister Jiang Yan, feeling completely unfazed, even considering offering her some sunflower seeds.
"Such a spoiled brat," Sister Jiang Yan muttered under her breath, a hint of impatience in her eyes.
I knew that Sister Jiang Yan was about to lose her temper.
From what I knew about this Domineering Female CEO, she despised this kind of whiny, unproductive behavior, especially in front of President Wang.
Just as I was preparing to enjoy the show, Li Ming spoke up from the side.
"President Wang, I'm really sorry. I'll drink on behalf of Jenny. She just joined the company and doesn't understand many of the rules yet." With that, he raised his glass and downed it in one go.
Seeing this, Jenny immediately put on a pitiful expression, gently tugging at Li Ming's sleeve and pouting, "Mr. Li..."
Li Ming smiled indulgently, ruffled her hair, and whispered a few comforting words.
I couldn't help but scoff inwardly; these two were truly playing their roles well—one as the good cop and the other as the bad cop, treating President Wang like a fool.
"Alright, alright, it's just drinking!" President Wang chuckled and turned his gaze to Jiang Yan. "Manager Jiang, we've known each other for a while now; you have to drink this glass today!"
Sister Jiang Yan picked up her glass and was about to speak when I suddenly stood up, snatched the glass from her hand, and cheerfully said, "President Wang, I'll drink on behalf of our boss!"
"You?" President Wang looked somewhat surprised as he sized me up. "Are you sure you can handle it? Don't end up passed out later and make your boss take you home."
I patted my chest and pretended to be bold, saying, "President Wang, just you wait! Our boss is a remarkable woman who can drink a thousand cups without getting drunk. As her assistant, I should have some drinking capacity too, right? I'll take this drink as a toast!" With that, I tilted my head back and downed the drink in one go.
In reality, my drinking ability wasn't bad; I just habitually concealed my strength in front of others.
After finishing the drink, I deliberately acted as if I couldn't handle my liquor, leaning over and collapsing onto President Wang. I mumbled drowsily, "Boss, I'm drinking for you, don't be sad..."
"Oh dear, you little girl..." President Wang was caught off guard by my sudden action and couldn't help but laugh while quickly reaching out to support me.
Sister Jiang Yan also stood up, looking at me with a reproachful expression. "Ye Jiajia, what are you doing?!"
I lifted my head and looked at her with hazy eyes, grinning foolishly as I said, "Boss, I'm not drunk... I can still... still drink..."
"Alright, alright, stop drinking!" President Wang interrupted me with a smile. "You little assistant are quite amusing; you're loyal to your boss."
He turned to Jiang Yan and said meaningfully, "Manager Jiang, having such a loyal employee is truly your blessing!"
Although Sister Jiang Yan's expression wasn't very pleasant, I knew she must be secretly relieved.
I winked at her slyly; she shot me a glare without saying anything and then turned to President Wang. "President Wang, I'm really sorry for the trouble. Jiajia tends to act up; I apologize on her behalf."
"It's fine, it's fine. Young people should be lively," President Wang waved his hand, signaling us to sit down. "Come on, let's continue discussing business."
However, Li Ming and Jenny didn't look too pleased, especially Jenny, whose gaze towards me was filled with resentment as if she wanted to swallow me whole.
I chuckled coldly to myself. Compete with me? You're still too inexperienced!
During the dinner that followed, I occasionally pretended to be drunk and joked around, but I kept my mind clear, quietly observing everyone's every move.
I knew that tonight's dinner was just the beginning; there were even more exciting performances waiting for me ahead.
I picked up my chopsticks, grabbed a piece of fish, and slowly chewed it in my mouth.
The fish was very fresh, tender, and delicious.
Hmm, this meal today is quite tasty.
