Mu Qiu had disappeared without a trace, and Lingfeng felt a jolt in his heart as a bad premonition spread through him. He quickly looked towards the all-knowing one.
The all-knowing one shook his head helplessly and said, "She has always been like this, and she still is. But since she has gone to search, let's split up and look for her!"
Lingfeng understood that they would search separately. Although he didn't know where Mu Qiu had gone, given her cultivation level, she should be fine. He nodded lightly.
Lingfeng and the all-knowing one searched in two different directions; Lingfeng took the front yard while the all-knowing one went to the back yard, also looking for Mu Qiu.
Seeing the all-knowing one disappear into the night, Lingfeng bent down and entered the house in the front yard.
The room was quite empty. As soon as he opened the door, a musty smell hit him. Lingfeng inhaled sharply, adjusting to the darkness, and realized that this was an empty house. Inside, apart from some useless scrap wood, there was nothing of value—no signs of life whatsoever.
"If I had known, I should have gone straight to the back!" With that thought, Lingfeng exited the empty room, jumped onto the roof, and looked down at the courtyard.
The area of the Abandoned House was relatively small, with two upright structures that looked like storage sheds, balanced by two larger houses. The one beneath Lingfeng was one of them, while the other was about fifty meters ahead of him.
The entire Abandoned House appeared desolate in the night; there were no people moving about, no birds flying, and no garden to provide any ambiance.
Lingfeng looked down but did not see any sign of the all-knowing one or Mu Qiu. He jumped down from the roof and walked towards the larger house in front.
Crouching under the eaves of the house, Lingfeng pressed against the wall to sense what was inside. However, he found no signs of life and did not feel any Spiritual Energy emanating from Earth Escape.
"Strange. Is Earth Escape not here?" Lingfeng murmured to himself.
If Earth Escape were here, then its Spiritual Energy would surely attract attention. Yet here, apart from a chilling atmosphere, there was no other Spiritual Energy or Demonic Energy present.
"Brother, weren't you in the front yard? How did you end up here?" The all-knowing one appeared silently behind Lingfeng like a mouse and spoke suddenly.
Lingfeng shook his head in confusion and couldn't help but doubt the all-knowing one's divination and tracking abilities. He questioned, "It seems like there's no one here at all. Are you sure you didn't misinterpret anything?"
The all-knowing one felt displeased by Lingfeng's skepticism but thought about his own search and realized he hadn't found anything either. He replied with some uncertainty, "I don't think I made a mistake, but I also haven't discovered anything." After pausing for a moment to look around, he added perplexedly, "I just sensed my surroundings a moment ago, but I found that Qiu'er is also missing."
"What do you mean missing?" Lingfeng looked at the all-knowing one in surprise. His cultivation level far surpassed Mu Qiu's; it should have been easy for him to sense her presence. How could she be missing?
The all-knowing one shook his head and said, "It seems like she vanished into thin air. But with her cultivation level, it's impossible for her to leave my sensing range in such a short time unless... unless..."
"Unless what?" Lingfeng asked anxiously.
"Unless she has burrowed underground!"
Lingfeng thought for a moment; this was indeed the only possibility. He then asked, "Have you found any openings?"
Lingfeng had just searched the house in the front yard, which was empty and had no openings. Moreover, Mu Qiu had suddenly disappeared behind him, clearly not having entered that house in the front yard.
"I checked the woodshed and didn't find any openings, but this house hasn't been searched yet," the know-it-all replied.
Lingfeng nodded, stood up, and made a hole in the window to look inside. He saw no signs of anyone and said, "Let's go in and take a look!"
The two pushed open the door and quietly entered the house, but the interior was already in shambles, with some broken bed boards scattered haphazardly on the floor.
Lingfeng took out the Illumination Talisman and recited the Incantation. The Illumination Talisman immediately shone brightly, illuminating the entire house, but apart from the dust on the floor, there was nothing else.
Lingfeng observed the ground; aside from his and the know-it-all's footprints, there were no signs of even a mouse.
Recalling something, Lingfeng suddenly remembered that when he was standing on the roof looking down earlier, he had seen a dilapidated well among the weeds. He hurriedly said, "There's still one place we haven't checked!"
With that, Lingfeng ran out of the house towards the weeds in the side yard.
The know-it-all followed closely behind and saw Lingfeng stop at a broken well, puzzled as he asked, "You don't think this well is an entrance to an underground passage, do you?"
"Yes," Lingfeng nodded without hesitation and continued, "During the Japanese Invasion of China, the Chinese people used tunnels to fight back and caught them off guard. The hardest to detect were those hidden in wells."
The know-it-all scratched his head, not understanding what Bai Lingfeng meant. However, looking at the well's opening, it seemed too small; although it could barely accommodate someone going down, there was no way to lower one's head or reach inside. How could it possibly be an entrance?
"Big brother, your cultivation level is higher than mine; why don't you go down first and take a look?" Lingfeng suggested seriously.
The know-it-all quickly shook his head and gestured at his own body. Then he compared it to Lingfeng's physique and awkwardly said, "Look at my waist; I could fit you in there! So I think it's better if you go down."
Lingfeng smiled; he hadn't noticed before how much thicker the know-it-all's waist was compared to his own. He instructed, "I will go down in a moment. If I haven't come back up after half a tea time, then use your formation to seal this place up and come down to find me!"
"Don't worry, I will definitely guard this well!" Wan Shitong said seriously, looking as if he was ready to dedicate himself to the revolution.
Not long after, Lingfeng stood on the edges of the well and inverted himself to descend into it.
The well was not dry, but the water inside was clearly insufficient. Once at the bottom, Lingfeng could even see a dark passageway underground, and then he entered the water, moving deeper.
Seeing this scene, Lingfeng became increasingly convinced that this well must connect to some underground passage. He recalled that when he was at Wisteria Mountain, he had reached Water Curtain Cave through that underground pool, ultimately finding Bear Brute.
Often, the most inconspicuous things on the surface could be the key to the problem.
After walking for a while inside, the ceiling above suddenly disappeared, revealing an opening. From that opening came a flow of human presence, mixed with some Spiritual Energy from Demon Cultivators and a powerful natural Spiritual Energy.
Lingfeng felt a surge of joy in his heart, determining that Earth Escape was right here, and there were evidently highly skilled Demon Cultivators within this cave.
"Strange, why would there be Demon Cultivators lurking in Demon Subduing Continent? Are they spies sent by Mandala Demon Realm?" Lingfeng wondered internally as he cautiously peeked outside the opening.
There were no people outside the opening, and it was clear that this was an overlooked location, so there were no guards around.
Jumping out of the opening, Lingfeng pressed against the wall and cautiously moved inward.
After turning a corner, he heard the sound of flames burning from within. Lingfeng secretly glanced inside and saw two rows of guards standing on either side, with torches stuck in the walls; it looked like an Underground Organization.
Lingfeng was unsure about the structure here and did not dare to act recklessly. With such strict guards present, he felt even more hesitant to step out carelessly.
"There are too many people; it's inconvenient to use Earth Escape Technique. It seems I need to think of another way!" Lingfeng turned back and pondered for a while until a satisfactory plan appeared in his mind.
Lingfeng knew that this underground passage was above the underground water, and the ground here had not been processed; it remained natural soil. Therefore, all he needed to do was use Earth Control Technique and then Water Control Technique to extinguish the torches on the walls. In the chaos that followed, he could knock one person unconscious and change into their clothing, allowing him to blend in unnoticed.
Thinking of this made Lingfeng feel relieved. He then formed a hand seal and quietly recited the incantation for Earth Control Technique.
Suddenly, beneath those torches, the ground began to crack open. Before the guards could react, several streams of water surged up from underground, causing the flames on the walls to flicker before being extinguished by the rushing water.
The guards thought an earthquake had occurred and hurriedly crouched down on either side. After waiting for a while without any unusual occurrences—only darkness enveloping the entire underground passage with no light and damp air—it became exceedingly gloomy.
"Light the torches quickly!" In the darkness, someone shouted.
The guards heard the command and hurriedly took out Firecrackers, trying to light the torches on the wall. However, the wicked torches had long been soaked with water and could not be ignited at all.
Lingfeng couldn't help but cover her mouth and chuckle, thinking that these people must be fools, unable to understand such a simple principle of water and fire being incompatible.
"Big Brother, the torches have been soaked by groundwater and cannot be lit!" one of the guards said.
The person called Big Brother cursed in frustration and then scolded, "Then hurry up and find clean torches!"
The guards hurried off, and soon the sound of their chaotic footsteps filled the entire passage.
Lingfeng quietly peered outside and saw that the light from the Firecrackers had illuminated the entire underground passage. The guards holding Firecrackers looked more like people offering prayers.
In an instant, most of the people in the passage had left. Lingfeng then quietly slipped out from the hole, silently grabbed a guard who was lagging behind, swiftly covered his mouth, and dragged him to the entrance.
The guard caught by Lingfeng tried to struggle, but he was completely restrained by her and could hardly move, let alone alert anyone else.
"Be honest, or I'll kill you!" Lingfeng threatened fiercely as she pulled back her arm.
