Hearing the boy's words, Lingfeng was overjoyed. She almost wanted to turn the boy's head and give him a big kiss on top.
"Then it's easy!" Lingfeng, not yet overwhelmed by excitement, picked up the boy and directly burrowed forward.
Before long, Lingfeng felt that burrowing was effortless, which meant she was almost reaching the surface. She then slowed down, gradually approaching the ground.
Finally, with a sudden burst of blinding sunlight, Lingfeng jumped out onto the surface. They landed on a slope leading up the mountain, surrounded by tall trees. Lingfeng stood at an angle on the slope and nearly slipped, but quickly grabbed a tree branch to steady herself.
"Are we out?" The boy finally emerged from Lingfeng's arms and looked around excitedly.
Lingfeng nodded heavily, thinking that the fresh air outside felt great. With that thought, she took a couple more deep breaths of fresh air.
"Brother, look! Those Doves are still up on the mountain!" The boy pointed into the sky.
Following the boy's finger, Lingfeng saw some White Phoenix Messengers circling at the mountain's peak. She chuckled lightly and playfully said, "These guys are playing hide and seek with us but can't find us; let them wait here for a while!" With that, she took the boy and ran down the mountain.
"By the way, you should know where your master is hiding, right?" Halfway down, Lingfeng realized she didn't know where everyone else was and asked the boy.
The boy nodded and said, "Master and the others are hiding in Water Curtain Cave!"
"Water Curtain Cave?" Lingfeng couldn't help but laugh; she only knew that Sun Wukong's lair was in Water Curtain Cave but didn't realize there was another Water Curtain Cave on Wisteria Mountain. Eagerly, she said, "Oh! Then take me there quickly!"
"Okay!" The boy replied and took the lead to guide Lingfeng.
After walking for a while, they arrived at a small pool. Calling it a pool was an exaggeration since its area was only about five square meters.
Lingfeng exaggeratedly opened her mouth wide and stammered, "Is this... is this really Water Curtain Cave? It looks more like a toilet; at least the water here is a bit clearer!"
"Uh!" The boy was both amused and exasperated. "What toilet? This is Bottomless Abyss; all this water comes from underground. However, Water Curtain Cave is just below here!"
Lingfeng looked at the clear Lake Surface, a questioning expression in his eyes. He thought to himself that there were many bandits around here; even if they all could swim, the water flowing from underground was icy cold. How could an ordinary person withstand it? He chuckled and said, "You must be joking. The temperature of the water flowing from underground is very low. If it were Brother Man and Brother Bear going in, I might believe it, but how could anyone else possibly enter!"
The boy, however, was unconvinced. Pouting and tilting his head, he glanced at Lingfeng and said, "It's not difficult at all, and the water here isn't cold!" With that, he dove into the water and disappeared from sight.
The splashes of water from the boy jumping in landed right on Lingfeng's feet. The water was not icy; instead, it felt somewhat warm.
"Oh!" Lingfeng suddenly laughed self-deprecatingly. It turned out this pool was an Underground Hot Spring. Thinking this, he jumped in as well.
Lingfeng was skilled in Water Control Technique, so he didn't need to swim in the water. He used Flowing with Water, creating a large bubble around himself that also enveloped the boy swimming ahead.
The boy had no idea what this was; he just felt much lighter and could even breathe freely. He asked in surprise and curiosity, "Brother, what Spell is this? It's so much fun!"
Lingfeng tapped the boy's nose and proudly said, "This is called Flowing with Water." After a pause, he added, "And I doubt there's anyone in this world better at swimming than me!"
"Wow!" The boy showed an envious expression.
Lingfeng secretly felt pleased with himself, even though he knew he was bragging.
The two sat inside the bubble and descended for a while before passing through an Underground Cave, finally arriving at a cave that saw no sunlight. Lingfeng took out some talisman paper and recited a spell, causing some light to appear around them.
"Child, is this Water Curtain Cave? Why can't I see anyone?" Lingfeng wondered aloud. The place was dark and damp, clearly not suitable for human habitation.
The boy's eyes sparkled with a bright light as he smiled knowingly and said, "Once we walk out of this cave, we'll be there!"
"Walk out of this cave?" Lingfeng hadn't expected the terrain here to be so complicated; it would indeed be difficult for an ordinary person to find their way.
After walking for a while, they exited the cave and found themselves outside. Although they were now outdoors, the scenery left Lingfeng stunned.
Before them lay a river resembling a Jade Belt, with dense trees and lush vegetation lining its banks.
As they moved forward, the river seemed to be abruptly cut off, cascading downwards and creating a thunderous sound of a waterfall.
"How about this? Not bad, right?" Seeing Lingfeng's surprised expression, the boy felt a sense of pride.
Lingfeng smiled and nodded, already guessing the general location of the Water Curtain Cave. He then jumped down the waterfall, grabbing onto a vine mid-air and swinging through the curtain-like cascade.
Inside the waterfall was a naturally formed cave, spacious enough to rival Bear Brute's Lair.
As they ventured deeper, they encountered two guards who greeted Lingfeng respectfully, saying, "Hero Ling, you have arrived!"
Lingfeng nodded slightly and asked, "Where is Brother Bear?"
One of them replied, "He is inside discussing matters with Mighty Hero!"
Lingfeng chuckled and walked further in.
After passing through the hall, he saw Bear Brute and Man Pillar sitting across from each other, both looking troubled and sighing repeatedly.
Noticing this, Lingfeng realized that Bear Brute was likely not worried about those people but rather about the boy's disappearance. He approached them with a smile and called out, "Brother Bear, Brother Man, I'm back!"
Bear Brute and Man Pillar were startled by his voice and quickly looked up to see Lingfeng grinning at them.
Bear Brute first showed a look of surprise but soon returned to his frown and complained, "Oh brother, why did you take so long to come?"
Lingfeng, unsure of what was happening, asked, "Brother Bear, what happened?"
Bear Brute was indeed a great hero, but he could not bear the pain of being separated from his loved ones. With a choked voice, he cried out, “Child has run outside on his own and is missing!”
Seeing Bear Brute in such a state, Lingfeng couldn't help but stifle a laugh, but he held it back and said, “Child is protected by Crane Beast, so he should be fine!”
“But, but the people from White Jade Escort Agency are not to be underestimated, especially with the State Government involved!” Bear Brute became even more anxious.
Noticing Bear Brute was like an ant on a hot pan, Lingfeng stopped joking and reassured him, “Don’t worry, Child is fine. He wouldn’t dare come in; he’s waiting outside!”
“Really?” Bear Brute showed a hint of joy and rushed outside.
At that moment, Man Pillar also stood up. Watching Bear Brute dash out, he shook his head with a smile and said, “Even though Child is not Brother Bear’s biological son, he is treated like one!”
Lingfeng sighed and replied, “Yes!” But suddenly, he thought of Azure Vine. It had been three years since they parted, and he wondered how Azure Vine was doing now. If only Azure Vine were by his side, perhaps he would care for Lingfeng just as much as Bear Brute cared for the boy.
Before long, Bear Brute burst into the stone cave with a hearty laugh, holding the boy's hand. Both of their eyes were red, clearly having cried.
“Hahaha, brother! It was you who saved Child, thank you so much!” Bear Brute expressed his gratitude to Lingfeng.
Just as Lingfeng had recalled Azure Vine, feeling a bit pained inside, he forced a smile and said, “There’s no need for such formality between brothers. The urgent matter now is to think about what to do next.”
Bear Brute nodded repeatedly and pulled Lingfeng and Man Pillar to sit on the stone bench.
Lingfeng shared everything he had seen and heard with Bear Brute and Man Pillar, asking them to help analyze the situation.
Not understanding matters related to cultivation, Bear Brute could only shift his gaze toward Man Pillar.
With a furrowed brow, Man Pillar pondered for a moment before slowly saying, “Could it be that the overseer really is a Demon Cultivator?”
"I truly feel the same way, and his aura is quite evil, which puts a lot of pressure on me," Lingfeng said with a hint of frustration.
"Since that's the case, I think he must be lurking around the State Government for some other reason!" Man Pillar speculated.
Lingfeng recalled that they had come here for the Phoenix Pearl and said, "I heard this pearl is the Phoenix Pearl, but I don't know what its purpose is." With that, Lingfeng took the Phoenix Pearl out from Xuanji and placed it on the table.
The three of them stared at the Phoenix Pearl but couldn't discern anything from it.
After a while, Bear Brute seemed to have made a discovery and slowly said, "This Phoenix Pearl seems to be changing!"
Man Pillar glanced at Lingfeng, feeling somewhat puzzled as well.
Lingfeng awkwardly coughed twice, thinking it was unnecessary to continue hiding it. He held the Phoenix Pearl in his hand, quietly reciting a spell to remove the amber coating. As soon as the amber was cleared away, the Phoenix Pearl intersected with Lingfeng's hands and suddenly radiated brilliant light, revealing its true colors.
Although Bear Brute was an ordinary person, he could see the tangible light emitted by the Phoenix Pearl. At that moment, witnessing such a phenomenon occurring in Lingfeng's hands left him speechless in astonishment.
"Could it be that this pearl is connected to you?" Man Pillar suppressed his curiosity and deduced based on his knowledge.
Lingfeng was confused; although a pearl could emit some light, he really didn't know what its function was. He chuckled and said, "I think this pearl only serves to illuminate at night; it doesn't seem to have any other use!"
