At this moment, the sun was blazing, and seven Crane Beasts simultaneously charged towards several White Phoenix Messengers in the air. The six Crane Beasts resembled colorful clouds in the sky, their attack fierce, seemingly intent on taking their enemies down with them.
The six Crane Beasts rushed forward rapidly, and some of the White Phoenix Messengers finally reacted, hurriedly using their flying abilities to narrowly evade the attack. However, those White Phoenix Messengers who were still caught off guard were unfortunate, as they were struck by the Crane Beasts' clones, producing a series of thunderous sounds as they transformed into Black Phoenix Pigeons, falling to the ground like they had their wings severed.
At the same time, those White Phoenix Messengers that were hit could not escape the shockwave either, being engulfed by flames resulting from the explosions. Their feathers ignited instantly, turning them into roasted carrier pigeons.
Lingfeng, witnessing this scene, could no longer contain himself and stood up with a loud shout.
The father and son from White Phoenix Mountain were also astonished by the sight, speechless as they stared blankly at the fallen White Phoenix Messengers.
However, the explosion sounds disturbed the State Government guards who were searching the mountains. Just as the White Phoenix Messengers were about to land, several sharp black shadows suddenly emerged from the forest, resembling missiles that had already been fired and could not be turned back.
"Arrows enchanted with spells!" Lingfeng exclaimed in alarm. If the Crane Beasts could not dodge these arrows, they would be pierced through.
Yet, at this critical moment, the Crane Beasts flapped their wings nonchalantly, as if their wings had suddenly grown many times larger, stirring up dust and debris. Some trees were uprooted entirely, falling to the ground like soldiers struck down.
The flapping of the Crane Beasts' wings grew increasingly fierce, and in an instant, a massive black whirlwind formed. The whirlwind mixed with those toppled trees and sucked all the arrows soaring into the sky into its vortex.
"Great!" Lingfeng cheered again in excitement.
The Crane Beasts also soared joyfully in the air, completely disregarding those below.
However, although the Crane Beasts had drawn those arrows into the whirlwind, they had only simply dispelled the magic above. The magic and whirlwind counteracted each other until finally, the whirlwind disappeared while the arrows continued to ascend rapidly; only the domineering black mist above was gone.
The Crane Beasts were clearly still reveling in their triumph but failed to notice the danger below.
Lingfeng's heart raced as he shouted urgently, "Crane Beast, watch out!"
The Crane Beast heard Lingfeng's shout and looked down, only to see a rain of iron arrows falling like raindrops below.
Although the Crane Beast had been warned, it was too late to dodge. With the child on its back, it could not maneuver freely.
Lingfeng shouted in alarm, but he was too far from the arrows to use Gold Manipulation, leaving him anxiously helpless.
The Crane Beast flapped its wings with all its might, narrowly avoiding several arrows in mid-air. It then quickly flew upwards, trying to find a gap to escape. However, the onslaught was fierce; every arrow retained its momentum, and for every one it dodged, another would come.
The child nervously clung to the Crane Beast's back, his eyes glistening with fear.
At that moment, Ziren had reached beneath the Crane Beast. Seeing its performance, a look of surprise appeared in his eyes. He glanced around; the second wave of attack was about to begin as the guards were drawing their bows and nocking arrows.
"Wait!" Ziren said in a deep voice.
The crowd lowered their bows but did not understand what Ziren meant.
Ziren sneered and casually took a bow and an arrow from one of the guards. He pricked his hand, smearing blood on the arrowhead, then recited some incantation. Suddenly, a purple light burst forth from the black iron arrowhead.
Though it was a simple action, fear filled the faces of the guards as they stepped back several paces.
Ziren glanced at them indifferently and effortlessly drew the bowstring back until it resembled a crescent moon.
At this point, the Crane Beast had evaded the arrows' attack; its feathers were somewhat disheveled, looking quite disheveled. Seizing the opportunity to escape, it flapped its wings vigorously, intending to turn back towards the mountains behind.
Seeing that the Crane Beast had escaped danger, Lingfeng finally felt a weight lift from his heart. Just as he was thinking about continuing to toy with White Phoenix Mountain's father and son, he inadvertently caught sight of a purple light shooting up into the sky.
It was just a simple glance, yet it stirred a sense of excitement in Lingfeng. The purple light shot forth like a rocket, emanating a terrifying aura of evil, moving at a speed that was hard to believe.
The Crane Beast had just turned its body and had not moved an inch when the purple light grazed its ankle. The Crane Beast let out a mournful howl, as if it were experiencing excruciating pain.
Lingfeng was startled, realizing that something bad had happened.
He quickly abandoned the kneeling White Phoenix Mountain father and son and burrowed into the ground.
"My lord, why did you let that Crane Beast go?" A nearby guard asked Ziren in confusion.
Ziren smirked, a mysterious smile spreading across his face, an aura of wickedness rising. After a moment of silence, he said, "That Crane Beast must be the spirit beast of the Wisteria Mountain bandits. I just cast a Spell on the arrow tip; I can sense its location in my heart, so we can easily find those bandits!"
Lingfeng then used the Earth Escape Technique to follow after the Crane Beast.
After passing through the dangerous area, Lingfeng finally emerged from the ground.
The Crane Beast did not fly directly back to the previous cave but headed toward a mountain in the opposite direction.
"Could they be hiding there?" Lingfeng wondered, immediately quickening his pace, leaping through the trees like an agile monkey.
After jumping for a while, the Crane Beast had already vanished into the sky.
Lingfeng felt anxious; he had been too far away earlier and only caught sight of the purple light brushing past the Crane Beast. Although he did not see the purple light strike the Crane Beast, its mournful cries clearly indicated that it had been injured.
Moreover, what puzzled Lingfeng even more was how familiar that purple light felt; it was almost identical to the purple light he himself emitted.
"Is he also learning the Falling Leaf Technique? But the upper part of the Falling Leaf Technique is in my hands. Does he possess the lower part of the Falling Leaf Technique?" The more Lingfeng thought about it, the more excited he became. He thought that if he could obtain the lower part of the Falling Leaf Technique, even if it was Demon Cultivation, it would save him a lot of effort.
After crossing the hill, Lingfeng discovered bloodstains on the ground. The bloodstains were no longer red but a dark purple, as if poisoned by something deadly.
Lingfeng did not dare to delay and followed the bloodstains for another two or three miles until he finally heard faint cries from the other side of the forest.
"Could it be a child?" The crying was tender and clearly that of a child, sobbing with worry, "Crane Beast, don't die! Please, don't die..."
"Child!" Lingfeng pushed aside the branches and finally found the child and the Crane Beast in a clearing.
The child was initially startled but upon seeing Lingfeng, burst into tears and threw himself onto Lingfeng, crying out, "Brother Lingfeng, please save Crane Beast! It's going to die..."
Seeing the child's tear-streaked face, which looked like a flower, made Lingfeng's heart ache. He quickly picked up the child and said, "Child, brother needs to quietly save Crane Beast, so you must stop crying!"
Hearing this from Lingfeng, the child hurriedly wiped his tears and closed his mouth tightly.
Lingfeng smiled and nodded, placing the child on the ground before moving to the side of Crane Beast.
At the end of the bloodstains was Crane Beast's right leg. The wound on its right leg was not large; it was just a cut. It seemed to have been sliced open by some force in an instant, with dark purple blood continuously flowing out from within, making one’s heart tremble in fear.
Lingfeng felt a chill run down his spine and silently cursed, "What a cruel fellow!"
Lingfeng naturally did not know what had happened; he only assumed that Crane Beast had been poisoned. Seeing the evil Spiritual Energy emanating from above, Lingfeng became even more certain that Crane Beast's body had been afflicted by some malicious Spell.
"Brother, will it get better?" The child looked at Lingfeng with hopeful eyes and asked worriedly.
Lingfeng recalled the scene when he first met the Child; he was so righteous, with not a trace of fear on his face. Now, seeing the Child's face filled with tears, Lingfeng suddenly felt a pang of sadness.
Although he was unsure how to revive the Crane Beast, Lingfeng still wanted to give it a try. He softly said to the Child, "Don't worry, it will be fine!" In truth, Lingfeng had no idea what the outcome would be.
"Perhaps the Whisker of the Thousand-Year Ginseng can help detoxify the Crane Beast!" Lingfeng thought through the various medicines he carried and ultimately decided to use the Whisker of the Thousand-Year Ginseng.
He then took out the Whisker from his pouch, cut off a segment, and placed it by the Crane Beast's mouth, gently saying, "Crane Beast, eat this!"
The Crane Beast let out two weak groans, its eyes unfocused. At that moment, even if he could place the Whisker in its mouth, it probably wouldn't be able to swallow it.
Lingfeng sighed, took the Whisker, chewed it in his mouth for a while until it turned into powder.
"Child, hold the Crane Beast's head!" With one hand holding a piece of Ginseng Tendril, Lingfeng couldn't feed the medicine to the Crane Beast alone and instructed the Child for help.
The Child readily agreed and hurriedly went to hold the Crane Beast's head up so that its mouth faced upward.
Only then did Lingfeng pry open the Crane Beast's mouth and place the ginseng powder inside. He then took a deep breath and blew the ginseng powder into the Crane Beast's belly.
In fact, the spell cast by Ziren was one used only by Demon Cultivators. He smeared his blood on the arrowhead and shot it at the Crane Beast to merge his blood into its body. By relying on incantations, he could sense the movements of the Crane Beast. Once this Crane Beast stopped flying, Ziren's blood would bind its entire body, rendering it immobile.
Ziren initially intended to use a long-term strategy to catch a big fish, but little did he know that the intelligence of the Crane Beast was far from trivial!
