A Thousand-Year Ginseng, yet it has no proper name, which sounds rather amusing. However, this Thousand-Year Ginseng has been hidden in the ground since its birth, so how could it understand the affairs of the human world?
Lingfeng didn't think much of it and figured that since ginseng is inherently associated with the earth and is adept at the Earth Escape Technique, he might as well call it Earth Escape. Although it lacked originality, at least it was a name. He said, "From now on, I'll call you Earth Escape."
The ginseng thought for a moment, then laughed heartily and exclaimed, "Good, good! My nature is of the earth, and I excel at burrowing underground. Calling me Earth Escape suits my essence perfectly!"
"This fellow is quite easy to fool!" Lingfeng thought to himself.
As he was about to leave, Earth Escape intended to teach Lingfeng a Spell again, but Lingfeng had already mentioned that he wouldn't ask for any more spells to be taught, so nothing was imparted.
In fact, Earth Escape had learned some additional Spells later on, but since it was late, he wasn't inclined to teach Lingfeng. He thought that since Lingfeng often visited this place, there would be plenty of opportunities to teach him Spells.
Upon returning to Water Peak, Lingfeng did not seek out Enchanting. He lay in bed, feeling extremely excited. So much had happened recently; first he learned about Monkey Head's secret regarding the Demon Root, and then he encountered a Thousand-Year Ginseng in the Celestial Fruit Orchard.
However, Lingfeng did not plan to reveal the secret of meeting the Thousand-Year Ginseng to anyone, including Enchanting. Firstly, he had promised Earth Escape that he would never disclose this matter. Secondly, if Enchanting insisted on seeing Earth Escape, Lingfeng would have no choice but to take her along. But given Earth Escape's handsome human form, he feared that Enchanting might fall in love at first sight with Earth Escape, which would leave him feeling embarrassed. Although Lingfeng believed that Enchanting's feelings for him were genuine, one could never be too careful.
The situation with Monkey Head seemed to have come to a pause; there had been no news from Monkey Head for quite some time.
Enchanting was also well-informed; however, she hadn't managed to uncover any news about Monkey Head. She only knew that the sect leader had sent someone to search for Monkey Head but later received no further updates.
In reality, how could Enchanting possibly find out about decisions made by the sect leader? Loyal disciples of the sect leader may not be entirely pure-hearted but still understood what should and shouldn't be known. Naturally, Enchanting wouldn't have learned about the sect leader's death order.
However, things were too calm for Lingfeng's liking; he couldn't help but feel suspicious. Moreover, since Monkey Head hadn't sent him any letters either, his worry only deepened.
Lingfeng pondered whether it might be better to go out and search for Monkey Head. But the sect leader would not easily allow him to leave Demon Suppression Sect. Furthermore, the sect leader doted on Azure Vine; regardless of circumstances, he wouldn't risk offending Azure Vine by letting Lingfeng go free.
"It seems I need to uncover the truth!" Lingfeng gritted his teeth and got up to find Enchanting.
Ever since learning the Earth Escape Technique, going to Enchanting's room felt like entering his own; there was no need to knock. He could simply use the Earth Escape Technique and appear in Enchanting's room in no time.
Enchanting had warned multiple times, "If you dare to use the Earth Escape Technique to enter my room again, I will inform the Sect Leader!"
However, this did not scare Lingfeng; instead, he became even more mischievous. Sometimes, he would sneak into Enchanting's room in the middle of the night, causing Enchanting to be so frightened that she wouldn't dare to undress while sleeping.
It was still early this time, and Enchanting was sitting cross-legged on her bed, meditating.
Lingfeng first peeked his head in quietly. Seeing that Enchanting was focused on her meditation, he silently jumped down to the floor, like a ghost released from the Underworld, making no sound at all.
With her eyes slightly closed and her breathing steady, Enchanting seemed to have entered a deep state of meditation. Lingfeng chuckled softly and squatted by Enchanting's window, puckering his lips to plant a kiss on her mouth.
Startled awake, Enchanting opened her eyes to see Lingfeng grinning lewdly. She immediately understood what had happened. In a mix of anger and shyness, she let out a soft cry and began to punch Lingfeng's shoulder with her delicate fist.
Lingfeng, however, did not mind at all; instead, he enjoyed it and hummed contentedly.
Seeing him like this made Enchanting laugh inwardly, and she added a bit more force to her punches.
Yet, Lingfeng was unfazed and treated it as a massage. He turned around, presenting his other shoulder to Enchanting, proudly saying, "Give this side a good thump too!"
"Taking advantage and acting innocent!" Enchanting pushed Lingfeng, turning her face away.
Knowing that Enchanting wasn't truly angry but merely teasing him, Lingfeng sat down beside her without hesitation. He lightly kissed her cheek and said, "My dear wife, I have something I would like your help with!"
Getting used to being called 'wife,' Enchanting replied without blushing or flinching, "With your abilities so great, what could you possibly need my help for?"
Shaking his head with a wry smile, Lingfeng said, "Even a skilled woman cannot cook without rice; even the Jade Emperor worries about the Seven Fairies. How much more should I worry as an ordinary mortal? I haven't grasped Buddhist principles or transcended worldly desires; instead, I've got a stunning beauty by my side. How can I not feel troubled?"
Gently tapping Lingfeng on the forehead, Enchanting laughed and said, "You really know how to sweet-talk. But there is one thing I cannot help you with!"
"What is it?" Lingfeng raised an eyebrow and asked.
Enchanting blushed lightly, as if she had drunk two taels of white wine. She gently parted her red lips and said, "I cannot help with matters between men and women."
Lingfeng was taken aback, feeling a surge of joy in his heart. Enchanting, coming from a prestigious family, was a refined young lady. In this world, where some feudal thoughts still lingered, Enchanting was understandably reluctant to easily offer herself. Moreover, Lingfeng was merely an immature youth; even if Enchanting had the intention, he would likely be powerless.
"Um, um, I know that. What I require from you is something else!" Lingfeng paused before getting to the point. "Many days have passed since Monkey Head left, yet I haven't heard any news from him, nor have I received any letters. So I want to go out and look for him."
Enchanting was momentarily stunned, her expression quite complex as she asked in confusion, "He's a grown man with the martial arts of the Demon Suppression Sect. Ordinary people cannot approach him. Are you worried he might be eaten by a monster?"
Lingfeng had his own troubles that he couldn't share. Since Enchanting was unaware of Monkey Head's secret, he found an excuse and said, "I'm just worried about his parents. When he left, it seemed like there was something he couldn't say. As a close friend, I naturally should care."
Hearing this from Lingfeng, Enchanting felt it made sense and nodded in agreement. However, she curiously asked, "Is this really all you need from me?"
Lingfeng forced a smile and replied obediently, "If it were only this matter, it would be easy to handle. It's just that I need to report the situation to the sect leader and request permission to go out!"
"Do you want me to testify again that you let Monkey Head go?" Enchanting, being sharp-witted, understood the underlying principle without needing Lingfeng to spell it out.
Lingfeng looked at Enchanting with delight; she had guessed correctly.
Enchanting pretended to frown and dramatically exclaimed, "Fine, fine! I'll help you this once. But if you're out there alone, I'll worry. How about I go with you?"
This put Lingfeng in a bit of a dilemma. If he took Enchanting along and found Monkey Head, but discovered he had not returned home and instead had embarked on the path of Demon Cultivation, how would he explain that to her? So he made an excuse and said, "That might be a bit difficult. You are already a disciple of the Demon Suppression Sect, while I am just at the level of Shixu. If I want to go out, as long as I have a reasonable explanation, it can be done. But for you to go out... unless you pass through the Demon Cave or have the sect leader's personal permission to leave the mountain..."
Before Lingfeng could finish, Enchanting interrupted with a pout, "The Mountain Sect Leader is really something else! Setting so many ridiculous rules; it's impossible to navigate them! How can anyone live like this?"
Seeing that Enchanting wasn't angry with him but rather complaining about the Mountain Sect Leader, Lingfeng felt a bit pleased and playfully said, "Alright, alright! I promise I'll come back early so you won't have to worry."
Enchanting huffed lightly and extended her finger while pouting as she insisted, "Okay then! We’ll make a pinky promise! And you must send me letters every day!" Like a child making demands, leaving Lingfeng with no choice but to comply; his feelings of affection for her deepened.
However, thinking about her request made him feel troubled. "You want me to send you letters every day? That could be difficult. If I'm camping outside at night without paper or pen in hand and no one around to deliver messages... how am I supposed to write to you?"
Enchanting lowered her head and thought for a moment, feeling that Lingfeng's words made sense. She then changed her tone and said, "Alright, you don't have to write to me every day, but you must send me a letter whenever you reach a new place. This way, I can keep track of your whereabouts. If you haven't written to me for half a month, I can report to the sect leader to look for you, in case something unexpected happens."
Upon hearing Enchanting's words, Lingfeng let out a quiet sigh, thinking that having such a wife was worth living for.
After talking for a while, Lingfeng intended to return to his room to rest, but Enchanting gently held Lingfeng's hand and suddenly asked, "Why did you choose to cultivate immortality?"
Lingfeng froze in place. He cultivated immortality naturally to save his sister Ling Xueer, who was like his own flesh and blood.
However, fearing that Enchanting might be jealous with this question, Lingfeng hesitated and said, "Oh, I... I don't know. It was just that Azure Vine Brother brought me back, and I chose to cultivate immortality."
Enchanting pouted slightly and softly scolded him, "Everything should have a goal. Without a goal, how can you cultivate to become an immortal? In the past, my goal was simply to become a deity and escape the suffering of reincarnation. But now I have a new goal."
To align with Enchanting's thoughts, Lingfeng gently asked, "What new goal do you have?"
With a gentle smile, Enchanting replied, "My current goal is just to be able to be with you forever, lasting and undying!"
What is love in this world that binds life and death? Although Enchanting was young, she understood true feelings. During her time spent with Lingfeng, she had secretly entrusted her lifelong commitment to him. Moreover, for those who harbor true love in their hearts, being with the one they love is the true happiness.
Lingfeng felt a wave of emotion and nodded heavily, saying, "Yes, I cultivate immortality so that I can be with you forever!"
