Back in the room, Lingfeng lay on the bed tossing and turning, unsure whether he should tell Azure Vine or the Sect Leader about obtaining the two secret manuals.
"Lame Li knew I would go there and gave me the books, but he didn't say anything about keeping it a secret from others," Lingfeng thought. Perhaps letting Azure Vine or the Sect Leader assist him in practicing these manuals would make it easier for him to improve his cultivation.
"Brother," Lingfeng called out as he stepped outside, looking at Azure Vine's back.
Azure Vine turned around and saw Lingfeng's awkward expression, asking in confusion, "What's wrong? What’s with that look?"
Lingfeng touched his face and asked, "Brother, do you know about the Falling Leaf Technique?"
Azure Vine shuddered slightly, as if a sealed monster had suddenly broken free from its confinement and re-entered the world. He slowly stopped his training and asked, "Of course I know about it. But why are you asking? Where did you hear about it?"
Seeing Azure Vine's reaction, Lingfeng felt puzzled and thought perhaps the Falling Leaf Technique wasn't very popular. He tentatively asked, "Brother, do you know anything about the Falling Leaf Technique?"
Azure Vine pondered for a moment before reluctantly saying, "The Falling Leaf Technique is an ultimate martial art. If cultivated according to the path of immortality, one could directly break through to the Magic Control Stage. However, because its cultivation method is akin to Demon Cultivation, this manual disappeared during a conflict a hundred years ago. By the way, how did you come to know about this book?"
Lingfeng didn't know how to respond. If he told Azure Vine that he had the book in his possession, Azure Vine might not allow him to practice it. But if he didn't tell him, he might not be able to cultivate at all. After thinking it over, Lingfeng decided to keep it a secret for now and inform Azure Vine later once he had made progress in his cultivation. So he said, "Oh, Lame Li mentioned it casually while we were at school." This lie worked well since Lame Li had already left and was unpredictable; no one would know where he had gone or bother to ask him about it.
"Lame Li?" A hint of doubt flashed in Azure Vine's eyes as he murmured, "But the Sect Leader has already ordered that no one is allowed to mention anything regarding this manual."
Lingfeng didn't answer and quickly changed the subject. He took out another cultivation manual from his pocket and said, "By the way, Lame Li gave me a book last time and told me to study it carefully, but I don't understand its intricacies. Brother, could you take a look at it?" In truth, Lingfeng hadn't read it at all; he just wanted to divert the conversation.
Azure Vine took the book and examined it closely. His expression didn't change much as he said lightly, "This is the Breath Technique, which is also a type of cultivation method of our sect. Although it's not an upper-tier spell, it's still a required course for disciples of our sect."
"What is its purpose? What kind of spell is it?" Lingfeng asked.
"This is a Spell of Breath Regulation of the Five Organs and Six Bowels, which emphasizes the entire body's breathing. Once mastered, it allows one to breathe freely through the pores in water and soil. It also enables the absorption of True Qi from the air through the pores, enhancing one's magical power."
Lingfeng nodded, feeling a sense of joy in his heart. He thought that if he learned this technique, his future cultivation would require much less effort.
"However," Azure Vine added, "this Spell is not easy to learn. Disciples of our sect must reach at least the Xuan Zhao Period before they can begin practicing it. At this stage, True Lotus will emerge within the Dantian, and a large amount of True Qi is needed as a supplement. Before this, due to the limited storage of True Qi in the body, if one learns the True Gate Technique, external True Qi will continuously flow into the body, and the practitioner will be unable to control the influx and outflux of True Qi freely, which could lead to accidents." It is like a balloon; if air continues to be pumped into a balloon in a confined space, it will eventually burst.
However, Lingfeng was not worried about this because the Immortal Peach he had consumed earlier had already increased his Dantian's storage capacity beyond its normal limits. His current cultivation methods were far from meeting the True Qi demands within his Dantian. Yet, he was puzzled by whether he should learn the martial art Falling Leaf Technique above.
Azure Vine seemed to disagree with Lingfeng learning Breath Technique because he was unaware of the true extent of Lingfeng's Dantian. Moreover, Lingfeng's low level of cultivation meant he did not fully understand his body's condition. However, he could vaguely sense that his Dantian felt like an empty stomach in need of substantial nourishment.
After much persuasion from Lingfeng, Azure Vine finally revealed the training methods for Breath Technique to him.
Breath Technique emphasizes adapting to the flow field. The entire manual consists of three parts: the first is Adapt to the Qi Field, the second is Flowing with Water, and the third is Flowing with the Sands.
The so-called Aura refers to sensing the direction of airflow and following the wind's path. Practitioners need to capture wind movement in strong winds and breathe freely during hurricanes; this helps them breathe freely in any windy situation later on and is the simplest part.
The so-called water flow refers to the movement of water. If practitioners master this part, they can breathe freely underwater like fish in water.
The sand field is the most challenging part of Breath Technique. Practitioners must repeatedly experience flowing sand, feel its movement, sense subtle gaps within it, then extract air from those gaps and finally run outside along with the sand flow. Flowing with the Sands requires utmost diligence; otherwise, one may be buried beneath the sand. Therefore, during training, there are often higher-level practitioners nearby for protection so that even in case of an accident, help can be provided.
These three adaptive methods are collectively known as Breath Technique. Once all three methods are mastered, one can sense the subtle True Qi flowing in the air. Although this True Qi is nearly imperceptible, it is immensely useful for lower-level cultivators. Advanced cultivators often do not need these methods to absorb True Qi during their later stages of cultivation; instead, they generate their required amount of True Qi through their own practice. Nevertheless, these three adaptive methods are incredibly beneficial.
Lingfeng had already reached Foundation Establishment; previous methods for training his body were no longer suitable. What he needed now was a more powerful cultivation method.
Early in the morning, Lingfeng got up. He had heard that the training methods of the disciples in his sect were extremely rigorous and demanding, focusing not only on physical strength but also on the adaptability of their bodies.
Every dawn, Lingfeng would hear the shouts of the disciples coming from below the mountain. The Azure Vine training method was not suitable for him because of his age; he had not yet reached that level of training.
Lingfeng was unconcerned. By now, his physical abilities had far surpassed those of the lower-level disciples in his sect. Moreover, the disciples began their physical training as soon as they left the academy. So, in the morning, Lingfeng quietly descended the mountain, changed into a disciple's robe, and followed behind the other disciples.
The training methods of the Demon Suppression Sect were extremely harsh. Before the sun even rose, all the disciples had to get up. They would then go to Stone Mountain, where they crawled on the ground to train their entire body’s muscles and bones. The disciples needed to move like animals, using both hands and feet to climb over rugged stone paths. This not only trained their muscles and bones but also built endurance in their palms.
After three years of such training, the disciples' palms would become as hard as steel, capable of crushing gravel, akin to the Shaolin Iron Sand Palm technique.
Although Lingfeng had begun practicing martial arts, his hands and feet were still tender compared to those already trained disciples. Within just a short time, Lingfeng's shoes had worn out, and his palms were bleeding. If Azure Vine saw him, he would probably immediately stop Lingfeng from engaging in such strenuous physical training.
After finishing his workout, Lingfeng returned to Lame Li's secret chamber. The items left by Lame Li included not only manuals and weapons but also some protective gear piled in a corner.
While they weren't top-quality items, they could serve to cover up his injuries.
Lingfeng glanced at the corner and discovered a pair of flesh-colored gloves.
Unbeknownst to him, these gloves were made from a hundred-year-old snake skin and had been meticulously crafted. They were now as light as a cicada's wings and felt like real human skin. These gloves offered little protection against external attacks but were extremely fire-resistant; except for true fire, ordinary flames could not burn them. Moreover, when worn, if one extended their hand into fire, they would not feel any heat but instead experience a cooling sensation.
Lingfeng tried putting on the gloves; they initially felt a bit loose but surprisingly shrank gradually after being worn, as if merging with Lingfeng's hands.
"Perfect! After training in the future, I can wear these gloves so Brother won't have to worry," Lingfeng thought as he examined his palms repeatedly and felt satisfied before finally leaving the secret chamber.
After dinner, Lingfeng was about to practice the Falling Leaf Technique when Azure Vine walked in.
"Brother, is there something wrong?" Seeing Azure Vine's helpless expression, Lingfeng quickly asked with concern.
Azure Vine sighed and sat beside Lingfeng. "Lingfeng, do you know why I haven't been teaching you any techniques?"
Since Lingfeng reached the Foundation Establishment Stage, Azure Vine and the Sect Leader had stopped teaching him any techniques and only provided him with some basic moves. Moreover, the Five Peaks Sect Leader seemed unwilling to teach Lingfeng any unique spells of the Five Peaks.
Lingfeng shook his head; he was unaware of the situation. Furthermore, the Man Pillar had only given him five years. If he couldn't reach the Man Pillar's level by the time of the competition in five years, he would only face a miserable defeat.
Azure Vine patted Lingfeng's head and said helplessly, "It's not that we don't want to teach you spells, but because of your age. You are only ten years old and have already reached Foundation Establishment; that's already beyond the norm."
It is known that even those with better innate talent typically start formal cultivation at fourteen. Otherwise, if one starts too early and their body lacks resilience, their cultivation could backfire. If one's physical cultivation does not align with their Mind Method, it could lead to self-destruction, and the consequences would be unimaginable.
Lingfeng understood some of this but firmly believed that as long as his physical quality met the requirements, his abilities would reach the standard. He thought that with moderate practice, he would achieve good results without any backlash.
"But Brother, my cultivation level is already quite high, and I haven't felt any discomfort. Besides, I ate half of an Immortal Peach last time; although it nearly cost me my life, I survived. The energy and True Qi I absorbed from the Immortal Peach are enough for my future needs."
"Lingfeng, the true Path of Cultivation is fraught with difficulties. Do you really think your True Qi can protect you? How much do you understand about this? Your experience is limited; even if your body can withstand pressure, your mind may not be able to handle it. For example, after the Rotation of Light, you will need to learn Mind Method and true spells. If you don't integrate Mind Method and Spell in a timely manner, you risk falling into madness."
