With the end of the zombie war, people in society gradually began to react. Discussions about the Celestial Warriors Alliance became increasingly heated online, with various short videos claiming to explain the situation being posted, and more and more screenshots being leaked. Walking down the street, one could hear descriptions of them everywhere; the whole world wanted to know what kind of existence they truly were. News reports flooded in, with all sorts of exclusive revelations emerging one after another. Some even dug up information about the invasion incident that occurred a few years ago in City S and the earlier skirmish at Shengfeng Village, attempting to link these mysterious events, which had never been disclosed to the public, to this recent war.
Due to the lack of an official explanation for this war, public opinion began to ferment. People sensed that danger lurked nearby but received no explanations. Protests erupted on the streets, people blocked government entrances, and speeches were made in front of crowds... A week passed, yet discussions nationwide kept everything at the forefront.
And this was only one side of the story.
In addition to those wanting to know who exactly the Celestial Warriors were that saved them, more rational individuals turned their attention to the causes and processes of the entire war. Although it was clear they could not provide a correct answer regarding the war's origins, as more people joined the discussion, some even cast suspicious glances toward international entities, speculating whether it was a biological experiment gone wrong from some country or a failed product from a company.
"If no one steps forward to explain this to society, the consequences could be dire."
Behind gleaming lenses, Xu Yicheng's deep gaze was filled with worry as he sat in his office, leaning back in his chair. His left hand held a phone displaying similar videos while his right hand gripped a Resonance Stone. The patterns on the stone faintly glowed green as Xu Yicheng's eyes remained fixed on the small goldfish in the aquarium before him.
In fact, at that moment, Xu Yicheng saw nothing in his office; he was connected through consciousness illusion with Aibo.
In a cave, dozens of Spirit Corps members sat together, watching a figure in the center drawing strange patterns on the ground with flames. Aibo sat cross-legged beside them while Xu Yicheng's illusion stood next to him; it was as if they were on a call.
"Honestly, I think your lives are much happier than ours," Xu Yicheng said as he walked through the illusion, lightly tapping on a glass-like crystal that emitted a pleasant "ding" sound. "Human society is complex; too many voices lead to too many problems. The media outside is like conducting a psychological siege against us. If you step forward, you'll face a barrage of meaningless questions; if you don't step forward, as a member of society, you can't bear to let things spiral out of control outside. It's quite contradictory."
Aibo said nothing but stood behind Xu Yicheng, watching him curiously manipulate floating crystalline illusions like an inquisitive child. Xu Yicheng seemed fascinated by these crystals and examined a small piece closely. As a master in materials science, he truly wished he could take one back to reality; however, after several attempts, it seemed these crystals only existed within this illusion—no matter how tightly he grasped them, his hands would always be empty upon exiting.
Thinking about this made Xu Yicheng feel somewhat regretful. He released the crystal and watched it float back into its original position before continuing to confide in Aibo: "If General Jiang doesn't return tomorrow, I'll have to represent us alongside Jiao An to speak with the media—to clarify what kind of organization we are and what has been happening. I think we owe it to the world."
"Then should Aibo's identity also be revealed?" Aibo suddenly asked.
Xu Yicheng hesitated for a moment; his eyelids lowered briefly before he turned around and admitted: "It's very likely. But there's really no other choice; everyone is waiting for an answer."
"If this can truly benefit your society, Aibo won't oppose it," Aibo said as he walked toward Xu Yicheng through the misty clouds. The glass-like crystals reflected Aibo's tall figure. He crouched down slightly and looked into Xu Yicheng's eyes with his azure gaze: "Aibo has no family left; you and your companions are my only hope for continuing life. It is my honor to help you solve difficulties."
Xu Yicheng gazed into Aibo's eyes and saw his own reflection within his pupils. He felt sympathy for Aibo's plight but realized there was little he could do to help him. He thought that if they truly had to face the media, allowing Aibo to enter society under a safe and harmless identity would serve as protection for him.
"If possible, I will persuade everyone for you," Xu Yicheng said as he placed his hand on Aibo's knee. "Trust me; I can earn their trust for you."
"No need," Aibo shook his head. "If you can gain trust for me, what about these Spirit Corps around me? How will you gain their trust?"
Xu Yicheng fell silent. Without an explanation from anyone, who would believe that zombies were their saviors? They would only see these creatures as identical to those monsters seen on television.
"We can live our lives well enough, Yicheng," Aibo extended his large hand and gently patted Xu Yicheng's back. "You don't need to worry too much about me; all I've ever asked from you is companionship—it's nothing significant."
"I..." Reflecting on their shared experiences of life and death together made Xu Yicheng gently shake his head and sincerely say, "I think I'm just trying to repay you."
"Aibo!"
A voice called out from nearby; Xu Yicheng could see cracks beginning to form in the illusion pieced together from Aibo's side.
"Aibo! Let's go hunting together! What do you think? Otherwise, the brothers will be bored to death!" In Aibo's view, a figure appeared hazily approaching them. Miao Chengmin put away his Chaos Power and tossed aside the last stone: "Look! I've managed to carve out three rooms and a hall for everyone! Haha..."
"He is on the phone!" the nearby Spirit Corps quickly reminded. Miao Chengmin was taken aback and stepped back.
"Are you going out to have fun?" Xu Yicheng smiled, "Go ahead, they are also our old friends."
After retracting the illusion, Xu Yicheng returned to his original office. In the corner near the window, the little goldfish hung in the water, as if time had been frozen. Xu Yicheng stared blankly for a while before remembering the message Jiao An had sent him earlier.
"Can you come over for a rehearsal? Just come to the place where we held our previous meeting. There has been no news from General Jiang." Jiao An's message read.
"On my way." Xu Yicheng stood up and walked outside.
The next day, 9 AM
In the reporting hall of M City Military Base, a press conference was held on time. This was a nationwide live broadcast, and everyone was waiting for the most official response.
"Do I need makeup?" Backstage, Xu Yicheng asked An Xiaotian while looking at Jiao An, who was seriously applying makeup in front of the mirror.
"Probably not..."
" Sister Jiao An —"
This loud shout startled everyone present, and they all turned their eyes toward the back door. Lu Sha was looking around like a girl who had never seen the world before. After a while, she dragged out the tail end of " Sister Jiao An " and rushed toward Jiao An, leaving Jiao An unsure whether to pretend not to know her. They awkwardly hugged, both filled with helplessness.
"Sister! Are we finally going to be in the newspaper?!" Lu Sha's eyes sparkled; she didn't even notice how serious everyone else was. It seemed to her that this was still a great opportunity for fame.
"Not just in the newspaper; this is a collective appearance." Jiao An pointed with her finger, indicating everyone from An Xiaotian to Qin Weishan, and replied honestly, "Remember to put on some makeup when you go on stage, Sasa."
"Okay!"
"Now, let's welcome our spokespersons, who are also two warriors from The Celestial Warriors Alliance!"
After the applause, Jiao An and Xu Yicheng walked onto the red carpet. However, Jiao An was only responsible for playing pre-recorded holographic footage beside him. Xu Yicheng was considered the most prestigious person there, which was why everyone unanimously hoped he would temporarily replace General Jiang to make a statement.
"Everyone here hopes to get a correct answer from us. To give an account to all citizens, I will represent everyone at M City Military Base to clarify everything. Our alliance needs to start from 2057..."
The people backstage listened quietly when suddenly An Xiaotian's phone vibrated. He opened it to find an unfamiliar number. He glanced around and walked to the back to answer it.
"Hello?"
"Xiaotian, I'm sorry to disturb you, but there's an urgent message."
On the other end of the line was his former instructor, Instructor Zhang.
"A message just came in from above; General Jiang has been charged with military offenses and has been detained."
"What?!" An Xiaotian exclaimed in shock. "What crime did he commit? On what grounds?"
An Xiaotian's words quickly drew everyone's attention. Qin Weishan wanted to step forward to ask, but was stopped by Liu Xuan beside him.
"I don't understand your actions, but what they said is that General Jiang violently disobeyed military orders and unilaterally changed the military strategy, and has been taken away."
"Next, I will formally introduce our members: first is our captain—Fierce Eagle, An Xiaotian. He is the chosen inheritor of the 'Fierce Eagle' armor from back in the day..."
On the holographic screen, a high-definition image of Fierce Eagle wearing the armor appeared, along with various scenes from his past appearances. However, amidst the expected applause, An Xiaotian never appeared in front of the media's cameras. After a while, several staff members approached Xu Yicheng and Jiao An, whispering a few words in their ears. Through the zoom of the camera, everyone saw Jiao An's expression suddenly turn grim. She put down the remote control and quickly walked backstage with Xu Yicheng, leaving behind a group of eager reporters and media cameras protesting at the scene.
