"Your Highness, today Li Xiangguo sent a fine Shu Brocade, saying it is for you to make new clothes."
Xie Aman said as she unfolded a luxurious piece of Shu Brocade, which shimmered beautifully in the sunlight. I glanced at it lightly and found the Shu Brocade glaringly bright, feeling a cold smile rise in my heart.
"Li Linfu is indeed generous, but this Palace has no fortune to enjoy it."
"Your Highness, what do you mean..." Xie Aman looked at me in confusion, hesitating to speak further.
I slowly stood up and walked to the window, gazing at the towering palace in the distance, my expression gradually turning icy.
"In this Inner Palace, there is no sincerity; it is all just a performance."
"This Shu Brocade is beautiful, but if this Palace wears it, it would attract too much attention. Put it away and reward the other sisters with it," I said, returning my gaze with a calm tone.
"Your Highness, this..." Xie Aman wanted to persuade me again but seeing my determined expression, she stopped speaking and carefully put away the Shu Brocade.
"I understand, I will take care of it right away," Xie Aman said with her head lowered respectfully as she exited.
I watched her departing figure, a hint of worry flashing in my eyes. Li Linfu is cunning and treacherous; his sending of this Shu Brocade is certainly not out of goodwill. If I accept it, he would have grounds to accuse me of being greedy for pleasure and undermining the court's integrity.
I sighed softly and sat down at the desk, picking up the brush but lacking any desire to practice calligraphy. Li Linfu, what exactly are you trying to do?
"My beloved consort, what are you thinking about?" A familiar voice came in with a hint of affection.
I looked up to see Tang Xuanzong dressed in casual attire, smiling as he walked in.
"Your Majesty!" I quickly stood up to pay my respects, displaying just the right amount of surprise on my face.
"There is no need for such formalities," Tang Xuanzong said as he approached me and gently helped me up, his eyes filled with tenderness.
"I heard from Gao Lishi that you received something good today?" Tang Xuanzong asked with a smile, his gaze intentionally or unintentionally sweeping over the Shu Brocade on the table.
I smiled slightly and replied calmly, "Li Xiangguo sent a fine piece of Shu Brocade today, saying it is for me to make new clothes. I thought this Shu Brocade was too extravagant and would attract too much attention if worn, so I planned to reward it to the other sisters. What does Your Majesty think?"
After hearing my words, Tang Xuanzong's expression changed slightly; a trace of barely perceptible coldness flashed in his eyes before he quickly returned to normal.
He walked to the table, picked up the Shu Brocade, examined it carefully, and then said calmly, "My beloved consort understands righteousness and does not covet luxury; she is truly a model in the inner palace."
Upon hearing this, I secretly breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed my suspicion was correct; Tang Xuanzong had begun to doubt Li Linfu's actions.
"Your Majesty overpraises me; I am unworthy of such compliments," I humbly replied, though a hint of pride flickered on my face.
"My beloved consort is too modest," Tang Xuanzong said as he set down the Shu Brocade and turned to look at me, his eyes filled with admiration. "Your ability to empathize with me brings me great comfort."
I smiled slightly and lowered my head, but inside, I felt a chill.
Tang Xuanzong, do you really think I genuinely care for you? I am merely using you.
"It is getting late; I still have memorials to review, so I will take my leave," Tang Xuanzong said before turning to leave.
I watched him depart, my smile gradually fading as my gaze turned cold and sharp.
Li Linfu, this is just a small warning; if you dare to plot against me again, do not blame me for being unkind!
I turned and walked to the window, gazing at the towering palace in the distance, my expression becoming resolute and profound.
In this Inner Palace, only the Strong One can survive; I will never easily concede!

"Your Highness, An Lushan requests an audience." Xie Aman hurried into the hall, a hint of confusion in her tone.
I frowned slightly, putting down the chess pieces I was organizing, and asked lightly, "What does he want?"
"He claims to have brought back some rare treasures from the Western Regions and has come specifically to present them to you," Xie Aman replied while observing my expression.
I chuckled softly, a trace of sarcasm in my voice. "He certainly knows how to ingratiate himself; but what rare treasures are lacking in this palace that he needs to curry favor?"
Seeing that I seemed somewhat displeased, Xie Aman fell silent and stood quietly beside me.
After pondering for a moment, I stood up and said, "Since he has come, let him in."
"Yes," Xie Aman acknowledged before stepping back.
I walked to the bronze mirror and carefully adjusted my makeup to ensure I appeared graceful before slowly returning to my seat. I picked up the teacup and took a gentle sip as I awaited An Lushan's arrival.
