"What? Shasha's parents are still alive? Old Qin, this is wonderful news! When did you find out? Are they coming back?" Jiang Chen asked excitedly, bombarding him with questions.
"I found out a month ago when my son and daughter-in-law called. I could hardly believe it at first! They said their long absence was due to special work requirements, and we would discuss the details when they come home. They'll be back the day after tomorrow, on New Year's Eve!" Old Qin replied over the phone.
After thinking for a moment, Jiang Chen said, "Alright! Since your family has such great news, I'll come over to celebrate the New Year with you!"
"That sounds good!" Old Qin said happily before hanging up.
Since Jiang Chen had decided to spend the New Year at Old Qin's house, he needed to inform Lin Yin.
"Lin Jie, Old Qin just called and invited me to his house for the New Year. I accepted. Where will you be spending the New Year?" Jiang Chen asked.
"Oh, that's easy for me. I'll be at the orphanage for the New Year. I've spent many years celebrating there with my master and the orphans. If you want me to join you at Huafei Villa, that would be more complicated!" Lin Yin replied.
Jiang Chen breathed a sigh of relief. "Oh, that's good! I was worried that you might not be happy about me going to the Qin family for New Year's."
Lin Yin laughed, "Why would I be unhappy? Although I did attempt to assassinate Old Qin, that was under my master's orders. I don't harbor any hatred towards the Qin family. By the way, I heard you mention on the phone that Old Qin's son and daughter-in-law are alive and coming back for New Year's?"
"Yes," Jiang Chen nodded.
"Ah, I wonder how my master will react to this news!" Lin Yin sighed.
"Director Hao doesn't have any substantial enmity with the Qin family. I believe it's just a misunderstanding that can hopefully be resolved soon!" Jiang Chen said.
"Yes, they were classmates after all. It would be great if my master could let go of his grudges. Jiang Chen, you're the best mediator; see if you can help resolve my master's issues," Lin Yin encouraged.
Jiang Chen nodded. "I'll do my best!"
The next day was December 29th. Lin Yin went to the orphanage. Jiang Chen gave some money to the security guard and housekeeper at Huafei Villa, allowing them to go home for the New Year. After all, he could cook for himself and didn't need a housekeeper; he certainly didn't need security either.
That day, Jiang Chen stayed in the villa and focused on his training, knowing that things would not be peaceful in the days to come.
New Year's Eve arrived. After preparing a simple breakfast for himself, Jiang Chen drove to Qin Family Villa. He was eager to meet Old Qin's son, Qin Huarong, and daughter-in-law, Bai Yuhe, as soon as possible.
However, when he arrived, he found only Old Qin and his lovely granddaughter, Qin Huansha, waiting to greet him.
"Director Jiang, you're here! I was really worried you wouldn't come!" Old Qin said with a bow.
"How could I not come? I promised!" Jiang Chen returned the gesture.
"Brother Jiang, you're here!" Now a university student, Qin Huansha had blossomed into an even more beautiful young woman and greeted him warmly.
"Shasha, you've become even more beautiful!" Jiang Chen complimented her casually. Hearing this made her smile even brighter.
The grandfather and granddaughter welcomed Jiang Chen into the living room, where they sat together on the sofa. "Chungwai, make some tea!" Old Qin instructed.
The bodyguard and housekeeper, Chungwai, brought in tea and greeted Jiang Chen. Old Qin referred to him as Chungwai instead of a nanny because he was acquainted with Jiang Chen.
"Old Qin, where are Shasha's parents?" Jiang Chen began to ask.
"They won't arrive until the afternoon. For now, it's just the three of us enjoying tea and chatting!" Old Qin replied.
"Oh, alright." Jiang Chen thought it made sense; it was too early for anyone to be home. He felt a bit anxious and puzzled about why he was so eager to see Qin Huarong and Bai Yuhe.
The three of them continued their light-hearted conversation, sharing updates about their lives. Old Qin was particularly interested in Jiang Chen's experiences during his absence, so Jiang Chen selectively shared some details while keeping his successful cultivation a secret. He wasn't ready to leave Earth just yet; he wanted to enjoy a few more years of an ordinary life, even if his life was destined to be anything but ordinary.
Jiang Chen also wanted to check on Shasha's situation at school, and she was more than happy to share her experiences with him.
The pleasant morning chat came to an end. After lunch, everyone took a short break while Old Qin arranged the preparations for the New Year. Jiang Chen and Shasha continued their conversation together.
Around two o'clock, Old Qin received a message that his son and daughter-in-law were about to arrive home.
Old Qin, along with Jiang Chen and Qin Huansha, immediately went to the villa entrance to wait. Soon, a military vehicle pulled up neatly in front of the villa.
"Hey, that vehicle looks familiar," Jiang Chen wondered as a man and woman stepped out of the military truck, leaving him stunned! Wasn't that Jin Liu and Mei Dong?
Qin Huansha didn't notice Jiang Chen's surprise; she rushed over and called out "Dad, Mom," before leaping into her mother's arms. The mother and daughter embraced each other with tears of joy.
Old Qin also missed Jiang Chen's expression as he stepped forward and exclaimed, "Huarong, Yuhe, you finally made it back!" It turned out that the two were indeed Qin Huarong and Bai Yuhe. Jiang Chen quickly realized that Jin Liu and Mei Dong were merely aliases they used while undercover.
"Dad, you've suffered all these years!" Qin Huarong quickly greeted his father, while Bai Yuhe released her daughter and also called out "Dad."
"Benefactor, what are you doing here?" Both Qin Huarong and Bai Yuhe were taken aback when they noticed Jiang Chen standing behind Old Qin.
"Oh, you know each other? Did you know he's our family's savior?" Old Qin was equally surprised by this revelation.
"Yes, he's our savior," they replied in unison.
"What’s going on?" Old Qin looked at Jiang Chen.
"It's a long story; what a coincidence!" Jiang Chen snapped back from his astonishment.
"Let's talk inside!" Old Qin beckoned everyone in.
So, Qin Huarong and Bai Yuhe gathered their luggage, and everyone entered the house together. The Qin Family Villa had been around for over ten years, so Qin Huarong and Bai Yuhe were somewhat familiar with it.
After placing their belongings in their room, the couple joined everyone in the living room. Qin Huarong sat next to his father while Bai Yuhe settled beside her daughter, Qin Huansha. Their biggest question now was how Jiang Chen ended up here. Could he be Shasha's boyfriend? If that were the case, it would make sense. It was just too coincidental that their benefactor happened to be their future son-in-law—what a twist of fate!
Old Qin sensed his son and daughter-in-law's curiosity and decided to introduce Jiang Chen first.
"Huarong, Yuhe, let me introduce you. This young man is Jiang Chen; he is currently the chairman of Jiahua Group. Don’t let his young age fool you; he’s quite capable. He’s the same age as Shasha and attended high school at the same school last year. One day after school last year, there were enemies trying to assassinate Shasha, but thankfully Director Jiang came to her rescue. To repay him, I gifted him Jiahua Clothing Company, which has now developed into a group company!"
